Am I at risk of keyword stuffing in a portfolio?
-
I'm updating our company portfolio. All said and done I will have ~300 photos in the gallery on page load that are filtered depending on user clicks. Because of the nature of our work my main keywords are going to get repeated a lot throughout the file names and alts. The titles/captions will have wording more appropriate to the user, but I can't avoid a lot of these keyword combos.
Do you think I'll take a hit for something like this? Or will it work in my favor?

eyepac and EGOL,
Thanks again for the help. I've just finished implementing the gallery and the "project spotlights." Now to beef up the content with more spotlights (we've got about 30 old ones from our last webpage that should transfer well), scour our archive for more photos, and get a microphone in my installers' hands.
I've still got to figure out a good way to get the portfolio into a multipage format targeting more key phrases, and I think I've got a good idea for a hybrid article/gallery. Now to find the time to make it.

Thanks, eyepaq.
It's good to know all of those factors go into marking something as spam or not. I may follow EGOL's suggestion of breaking this up into multiple pages that will decrease the number of repetitions, as well as decrease page load time.

EGOL,
Thanks for the great suggestions. I'm currently developing a "project spotlight" portion of the portfolio that has just the kind of content you're speaking of.
At the same time we're trying to fill in the lack of content (very much in the early stages) through the blog and a "learning annex."
I'll have to think about the multiple pages approach. I want this to be usable, and I need to think about how to pull that off in our CMS.

If this was my site, clicking on the image would deliver the visitor to a new page and that page would have the photo and a LOT of information about it. There is a lot to say about these photos that will demonstrate expertise, educate customers and provide huge long tail keyword pull from search.
Give your install guys a voice to text recorder and have they speak and preach about everyone of these photos. Then make it into content.
I think that this site has lots of fancy design, lots of fantastic photos... emphasis on design rather than on search engine attack and substantive content.
You could kick the results up a lot by making multiple page gallery targeting terms like solar install on a flat roof, solar on pitched roof, rooftop water heating. Instead it is on one page with title tag of "portfolio".
Use these photos and the gallery to be in every SERP that anybody lands on in your target market.
You could be making the best-on-the-web solar install linkbait.

Hi,
I've seen several portfolios with several words repeating over and over again - but everything made sense and teghy are ranking well site wide and also with the portfolio pages for those keywords.
This is not keyword stuffing if it make sense even if you have a very high ratio of repetition for one or two words.
More then that the real estate of the page says it all - so it's clearly not a technique to try to stuff that keyword and tray to rank.
Personally I believe it won't harm you at all also because of your domain authority and everything else: google places entry, the brand in google's eye and so on - this is cleary not a spam domain :).
Hope it helps.

One keyword optimization for the whole site
Hello Folks at MOZ, I am new here and I am glad there's this section of the site where newbies can get help for SEO. I have a specific keyword which needs to rank as well as possible, and all other keywords, well they are automatically in the description text alt tags and in couple of page titles. So my keyword which I would need to rank as high as possible is "24k gold iphone 6" and it has quite lot's of searches per month, and my site is now one second page of google results. My question is: I don't care much about other keywords right now, so would it make sense to make on one or two pages which sell the 24k gold iphone of my website the title, the page url, headers, alt tags, image names, to be exactly "24k gold iphone 6" and /24k-gold-iphone-6.html etc. without any other text. I believe there is a difference in having exact same page title name etc as the keyword, without any additional text is good for ranking? Also I guess there is limit on how much this naming of files, titles etc can be used before google might give a penalty for it... so I guess I have to be careful. Many thanks for anybody who takes time to respond.

Google Local Listings dropped in all major keywords
One of our websites had dropped dramatically in all of his major keywords over the past several days. He was ranked in the maps section in google (the old pages not the google plus pages) in the top 3 in his most important keywords and all of a sudden they dropped off the first page completely - not just down one or 2 places. Not sure what happened and how to fix it.. help please!!!

Ranking top 3 with Geographical Keyword but not on 1st page without it.
Recently I have been working to solve an issue where we rank number 2 for "Web Design Memphis" yet we do not appear on the first few pages for the keyword "web design." Several of our local competitors appear on the first page without the geo keyword. What can be done to solve this issue? I am not searching incognito and Google is recognizing my locality. Why is the competition able to rank on the first page without the geo keyword and we are not? Thanks for your feedback!

All Keywords Down.
all keywords are down all of a sudden. Any input will be appreciated. Everything was just working fine. Was that a result of Panda or Penguin update? Under webmaster there is no yellow question mark. Everyhting looks good in "Onpage" optimization. SOS.

Switching to a domain name with keywords in it, is it possible to make this happen smoothly?
Hello, We have been working on the SEO of our site for almost a year now, and we are still not really seeing the success we would like to see. I notice often we get outranked by other sites that have lower PA/DA/citations/reviews etc than us, and the only explaination i can find is that they are getting a boost for a Partial Keyword Match in the domain name. Right now our domain name is: http://www.storwell.com And we are considering switching to http://www.storwellselfstorage.com and of course 301 redirecting all the individual pages from the old domain to the new domain's pages. How much would we risk loosing out in this transition? Can we safely transfer domains, or do we risk loosing the majority of our PA & DA because the backlinks will point at redirects instead of the actual location? Has anyone successfully managed to transfer domains and keep their DA & PA?
