Moz Domain Authority [Megathread]
-
Hey Moz Community,
We've noticed that there are questions about Domain Authority, what it is, and how to positively impact it. We're here to answer your questions! For a full overview, please see our help hub article here: https://moz.com/learn/seo/domain-authority
First, it's important to keep in mind that Domain Authority (DA) is a search engine ranking score developed by Moz that predicts how likely a website is to rank in search engine result pages (SERPs). It is not a Google ranking factor. Domain Authority scores range from one to 100, with higher scores corresponding to a greater likelihood of ranking.
Since DA is based on machine learning calculations, your site's score will often fluctuate as more, fewer, or different data points become available and are incorporated into those calculations.
For instance, if facebook.com were to acquire a billion new links, every other site’s DA would drop relative to Facebook’s. Because more established and authoritative domains like Facebook will have increasingly larger link profiles, they take up more of the high-DA slots, leaving less room at the higher end of the scale for other domains with less robust link profiles. Therefore, it's significantly easier to grow your score from 20 to 30 than it is to grow it from 70 to 80. For this reason, it’s important to use Domain Authority as a comparative metric rather than an absolute one.
The best way to influence your DA is to improve your overall site health with a focus on the quality and quantity of external links pointing to your site.
Check out this video for more details on how to impact DA
Happy analyzing!

Is it the way to check my site spam score on MOZ without being a paid customer?
-
My website https://bazeinfo.com is facing same issue, the spem score was 0 only for me to check again and I saw 1.
What might have gone wrong
-
@warrenatkinson to increase your DA you need links which are indexed by Google because often we build links from here are there but have no idea when those links will get indexed, so if you need fast results either you have to spend a good amount of money to get editorial links or you have to waste your time and money doing it yourself and wait for the links to get indexed.
-
@hayleybowyer I need a little help regarding the Moz DA factor. I am running a clients medical billing services website but I am not being able to increase the DA at all. I am looking for a strategy that can help me improve the stats of my links.
-
Keep in mind that search engines need to find your new links and this takes some time. My experience is 8-12 weeks until you can see them poping up. You can accellerate this by sending a PING.
-
Hi @moviesflix, please see the original post for more info here!
Additionally, it's important that your site is available to be read my our Moz crawler. More info on that here: https://moz.com/help/moz-pro/site-crawl/crawl-troubleshooting
Hope this helps!

Hi i'm creating lots of high authority backlinks but my backlinks are not indexed in moz da checker tools & still not increase my domain authority please suggest me how to index my backlinks in moz da checker tools my site addresses getdistributorship

This is a great answer! Thanks so much @garyblue!

Hi Fadimahar,
DA increase is very much depending on the quality of the Domains you are linking:
-
No-follow links do not improve DA
-
Do-Follow links will improve DA
-
Avoid spam score higher than 5. You can check it with MOZ. (Your domain has already a spam score of 7)
Second influence is the DA of the linking Domain itself. If the DA of the linking Domain is low it will have only a minor influence on your DA.
Keep in mind that search engines need to find your new links and this takes some time. My experience is 8-12 weeks until you can see them poping up. You can accellerate this by sending a PING. One source I`m using is prepostseo.

@fadimahar From where are you getting links? The sites should have good authority and organic traffic. Moreover, their DA should be much greater than your site's DA. You must focus on publishing quality content as well. Wait for 2 -3 months, then see the results.
-
@fadimahar Do regular Press Releases every 3 months.
-
@fadimahar How long has it been since you added your back links? Depending on the quality (DA) of the back links and the volume of traffic you receive it could take a few months to see any tangible results in your DA.

Hi,
I created a lot of new backlinks but still, my Moz DA is not increasing. Can you please guide me on how can I increase My site skatetownguide DA? Thanks in advance -
I am working with a customer who has recently (2 weeks ago) changed their domain. The old domain has been repointed to the new but Moz is showing that the DA and Link Authority hasn't been passed to the new domain. Old DA was 20 & new DA 3? Any ideas?

I want to know is there any way of increasing DA/PA of the website? Is there any benefit in ranking if we increase PA of specific page?
-
@ayofztk Having a high DA does not mean all your pages will get to the top. It more corresponds to your site's ability to get indexed and ranked by Google. DA is just an approximate indicator that is developed by MOZ. There are many other things that you need to take into account:
whether each of your pages is optimized for a specific set of keywords you are targeting?
what's the performance of these pages compared to your competitors - you can get this data from Google Search Console in the Core Web Vitals section, and also on Google Page Speed Insights.
How many internal and external backlinks does each of your pages have?
There are many more, but take these first three areas as a start. -
my off page is in process and on page is done still my DA is stuck on 3 and it even lowered. please help!
-
concentrate on-page and off-page SEO

Hi Brent,
I just took a quick look as a friendly courtesy...
To be honest, the list of backlinks pointing to your domain seem pretty suspect in comparison to website's I've been working with over the years. Google may find this suspect as well, though I am not certain, at least at this second.
As you know, lots of backlinks can mean a high DA, but DA is simply a Moz metric -- not a Google metric -- and doesn't automatically equate to high ranks in the SERPs.
Beyond this, you may want to make sure that (1) you're set up properly with Google Search Console, (2) you have a sitemap submitted, and (3) you're website is allowing search engines to crawl it.
Hope this helps! Feel free to reach out if you'd like us to take a deeper dive.
Best,
Zack -
Zack - no problem. Here is the website https://www.ustrademarkrenewal.com/ it's a DA 55. Yet not popping up on search engines.
-
Hi Brent,
Can you please share more specifics so I can take a look? (Also... Keep in mind that DA is a Moz metric (not a Google metric), so it is taking a "best guess" of course.)
Thanks,
Zack -
Hi snjaoieiw,
To get a detailed answer from Moz staff on what DA is, you might consider searching the Q&A forum.
In short, though, it is a Moz metric (not a Google or Bing metric) that takes into consideration the number (and quality) of backlinks your website has. That said, have you been working on building up high quality backlinks?

Hey there!
Thanks for reaching out to us!
Domain Authority in Link Explorer and the Links section of your Moz Campaign correlates with Google rankings to give you an accurate representation of a sites's ranking power.
To understand how to improve DA (Domain Authority) it can help to get some insight into how we gather our data, which I'll include below. Sorry in advance for the long message!
To calculate DA, we index the web by following links using a crawler. Our crawler is built on a machine-learning based model that is optimized to select pages like those that appear in our collection of Google SERPs. We feed the machine learning model with features of the URL like the backlink counts for the URL and the PLD (pay-level domains), features about the URL like its length and how many subdirectories it has, and features on the quality of the domains linking to the URL and PLD. So, it's not based on any one particular metric, but we're training the crawler to start with high-value links.
In terms of improving your Domain Authority, with the information above in mind, it's best to look at both you on-page SEO to make sure you've covered the basics.
Then you also want to look at your off-site SEO and building more links more links to your site.
There are lots of different areas of Link Building to explore, from patching up broken links, improving your internal link profile, and good ol' fashioned content creation. Here is a great video by our founder Rand which goes over some easy link building tactics to get you started.

Block Moz (or any other robot) from crawling pages with specific URLs
Hello! Moz reports that my site has around 380 duplicate page content. Most of them come from dynamic generated URLs that have some specific parameters. I have sorted this out for Google in webmaster tools (the new Google Search Console) by blocking the pages with these parameters. However, Moz is still reporting the same amount of duplicate content pages and, to stop it, I know I must use robots.txt. The trick is that, I don't want to block every page, but just the pages with specific parameters. I want to do this because among these 380 pages there are some other pages with no parameters (or different parameters) that I need to take care of. Basically, I need to clean this list to be able to use the feature properly in the future. I have read through Moz forums and found a few topics related to this, but there is no clear answer on how to block only pages with specific URLs. Therefore, I have done my research and come up with these lines for robots.txt: User-agent: dotbot
Moz Pro | | Blacktie
Disallow: /*numberOfStars=0 User-agent: rogerbot
Disallow: /*numberOfStars=0 My questions: 1. Are the above lines correct and would block Moz (dotbot and rogerbot) from crawling only pages that have numberOfStars=0 parameter in their URLs, leaving other pages intact? 2. Do I need to have an empty line between the two groups? (I mean between "Disallow: /*numberOfStars=0" and "User-agent: rogerbot")? (or does it even matter?) I think this would help many people as there is no clear answer on how to block crawling only pages with specific URLs. Moreover, this should be valid for any robot out there. Thank you for your help!0 -
Canonicalisation/ Moz/ WP.
Hi, I've recently put a new site live using Wordpress, and have hooked it up to Moz Analytics. Moz is reporting >1000 pages with 'missing meta description page', and >250 with 'duplicate page content'. The issues seem to be being flagged by pages with '?sort=asc&view=main', ?show=paged&view=main, '?sort=ratedup&show=all&view=list', etc. I have a number of category pages, which users can filter by etc to give them the information in the way they want to see it. I have this ' I haven't got many pages indexed by Google yet, so can't see if they're hitting the same issues as Moz. Any help/ advice appreciated.

Moz tools are returning "url is inaccessible"
Hello everyone, I have been trying to use the on page grader tool and I have also tried to do a site crawl test, and both tools have come back with a "Sorry, but that URL is inaccessible" error. This has not been a problem before. Any ideas why this is happening eg what is blocking it. The url is www.livinghouse.co.uk any help for a novice would be appreciated. PS. I have had another tool also not giving any results, so I assume its something on the site which is blocking the tools. Could this also block Google? Thanks Giles

Why do the competitive link analysis numbers not match the domain analysis?
There is only one area that our competitor out ranks us and that is in the total links on the root domain. But when i go to competitive link analysis we have more links then they do. Any ideas?

Moz's customer service. Is this normal?
A few days ago I noticed an issue with the on-page optimizer, when I couldn't find a solution, or even any mention of the problem in the forum I posted a ticket at the help desk.
Moz Pro | | Abidos
After ten hours I got a generic reply that didn't answer my ticket so I posted saying so.
After two days of not getting any reaction I looked through the forums again, this time searching for reactions about Moz's help desk. I found the post saying that sometimes the mail with a reply isn't received correctly so I went to the page of the ticket.
Here I saw that not only didn't I get an answer but my issue had been marked as solved, even though my last message clearly stated that it wasn't. This was three days ago. So my question is, is this how Moz usually treats it's clients? I'm new and my free trial is about to expire. At this point Moz should be impressing me with their great tools and services, convincing me it's worth my money. If I can barely get their attention now I don't expect it to change once I have payed them.0
