What's Your Most Jaw-Droppingly Spammy Link ( or Promo) Request?

Sheesh.
I get them every day. But this one takes the cake. It's from a woman I met once in my life on a long run with my running club. That was two years ago. Now she wants me to endorse her -- even though I know nothing about her professionally.
But wait, there's more. She's not much of a runner. As it happens, I know a thing or two about fitness -- having edited a fitness magazine and worked on websites for many top fitness and nutrition pros. The idea of an MSW doing fitness programs for people with medical problems raises all kinds of red flags.
She sent this Facebook IM:

Right. In a previous life, I headed the news dept. of a TV station.
I would regularly get calls from clueless PR people who asked the question: "Did you get my press release?"
What I always felt like saying (but usually was able to restrain myself from saying) was:
"How the hell would I know? And please F&*% off and die a slow painful death. We receive hundreds of press releases every day and 99.99% of the time it's a waste of our time to have even the most junior staff member read them. You have cost me time and money -- and how dare you? I resent it, I hate you, and I have now made a mental note of the idiot company dumb enough to have hired you. BTW, I'm wondering how this call even eneded up being routed to me. Something went wrong."

I have a blog that gets very short posts about industry news (not promotional stuff - genuine news).
I hate it when somebody sends a spammy promo request (which either gets deleted manually or filtered (thanks to gmail you can have an unlimited number of filters).
Then they call on the phone to be sure that I got it.
I feel like saying... "Nobody gives a damn about your ________ (tenth anniversary, staff changes, retirements, president's chest thumping video)". My readers would unsubscribe if I published that crap.

Not really a spammy link promo or anything, but I have an SEO client who ranks number 1 for...
generic keyword such as : "land survey company" and 20 surround cities. He emailed me a couple day ago asking me to target "company surveying city name" sigh....

I have links coming from spammy sites that DO NOT exist anymore... Disavow or not?
Hi There !!! I´m cleaning the link profile of one of our sites and making the typical analysis I have found the following scenario: All SEO tools that helped me to gather the data (WMT, opensite, majestic) are showing me that I have links coming from spammy sites that actually are not online any more. In other words, the spammy site where the link is coming is not alive (when I try to check the page itself I´m having a 404 or domain expired). My main question is… Should I disavow these domains links? or should I simply ignore them? We got an unnatural penalty and we are doing the whole proccess (checking sites, contacting, etc….). Are these sites spammy links or should I just let it go?
I have a new client who had an old SEO firm that I believe was putting spammy links together for them. The firm has very good links mixed in with them so I am wondering if it even matters. They are ranked 4/10 and have a DA of 47. So it doesn't seem it is really hurting them too badly. Below are some examples of some of the sites I found in the Open SIte Explorer. I wanted to get another opinion on if the below hurt/help/does nothing. I was thinking it hurts more than helps. Using sitewide links to improve link profile?
Hi Guys... When I look at my competitor's link profile, they often have thousands of backlinks. For example, one of our main competitor, he got 3,400 backlinks in total but only 80 referring domains. When I look at my link profile, I have around 50-60 referring domains, but hardly 80 backlinks. My question is, is it okay to get a few sitewide links (no-follow of course!) to get to the thousands backlinks? Or I will be able to achieve top rankings with my current link profile? Thanks!!

How might Google differentiate between an artificial link exchange and partners linking to each other?
Hi, All! Artificial link exchanges (contacting a vaguely connected site and requesting to exchange links to increase your PR) is, as far as I know, considered an outdated, not-so-smart technique, as Google might devalue them. Yet, for real business partners to exchange links seems to be an entirely accepted and encouraged technique. While that would be intuitive to a human who's viewing the pages. how might Google detect when two sites that link to each other are linking because they are trusted business associates (valuable) as opposed to when they are doing a link exchange (devalued)? Buying links
I have 2 websites to pay monthly to gain links from, number 1 is on the homepage of a directory, it has a PA of 90 and DA of 88.

the link will be on the right hand side along with 55 other featured sites.
these links are there throughout the whole site. number 2 is from a website with 20 max sponsored links on a page and will be one of the sub pages on the site with a PA of 74. How valuable if any would these links be? My current pa on the site i wish to send the links to is 26 Can i expect my PA to go up by much? Also i currently have 317 links from 7 root domains on my site will this effect the rank of the paid links? Thanks in advance0 -
What's the difference between follow and nofollow links?
I understand this may be a really dumb question and from my understanding there is a piece of code in some url's that tell search engines not to follow that link. I am interested in finding out what the purpose of nofollow links are and how they apply to search rankings. Thanks for the help
