On-Page E-commerce Site Optimization
-
Hello everyone!
Just started on a new job as in house SEO and PPC but it is also my first job as such, got little experience and for what I know the site needs a lot of work in terms of optimization.
I would like to ask some help and some opinions about what I think should be done in order to rank higher because at the moment the highest ranking page doesn't go higher than the third page for general but high traffic volume keywords.
-
All the titles tag are too long, some of them are up to 100 characters
-
The meta tag isn't optimized properly to attract people and get clicks
-
the content on the product pages is laid out badly and there aren't many keywords
-
a lot of duplicate content
-
there are little inbound links
-
there isn't a section for content such as a news page, a blog or anything like that which makes link building even harder
Here my challenges:
-
Create well optimized product, category , subcategory pages to improve also the PPC landing pages
-
Improve the rankings at least to get on the first page for general keywords
-
Choose the right keywords to optimize the site for
-
increase the number of inbound links.
I also have to manage adwords and given my little experience I can't seem to prioritize things so any suggestions would be really appreciated.
Also if you don't mind to take a look at the site and leave me comments on things that I should improve, I'd be grateful .
The main problem also is the niche I work in is not the best, I know nothing about it which makes things worse.
Thank you for reading
Oscar

Also ask the sales guys WHO are they selling to. As in, the persons they interact with and what they are like. Who makes the decisions, who looks for the different options, and so on.

--The only thing that pops out at me right away is, and I don't know it you do the copywriting, but the language used is extremely technical. I understand that you are B2B, but you might add some descriptive text to the product descriptions (for long-tail kw's) and a maybe a bit more sales-oriented text.

Thanks for your reply!
I will take the hint! It is very difficult and the feeling you had looking at the homepage is basically what happens to me every time I look through the site!
But I am getting there through competition analysis and articles I am learning a lot about the industry.
In order to gather information, I have though to create a spread sheet with questions and ask to my colleagues to answer it in order to gather some information.
Other than the one you mentioned what information could really help me?
Regarding the title tags I can't change at the moment because the platform (MS Access) on which the website is built on doesn't let me change the html documents even if it should, I am trying to sort this out as well.

The first thing that sticks out at me is the title tag of your page: repsole.com - a leading supplier of datacom and...... it goes on forever. It seems like there is no focus. I noticed that on a few other category pages. That would be a good start I think.
But...
My advice would be to start learning about the company (what does it sell? who are we selling to? why are they buying from us? what are the best selling products? what products make the most profit? etc.) and then you will start to have an idea of what keywords to optimize for.
Then google those keywords, and try to learn as much as possible about competitors. And note what are they doing? Why are they doing it? How do I catch up?
The products on the repsole webpage are so foreign to me, that if I were in your shoes, I would not feel comfortable until I had a grasp on the basics of the company, its niche and the market -- and knew the language of the company, niche and market.
Hopefully that helps

Unlinked mentions that seem to be FROM by site
Hi Everyone I'm new to SEO so apologies if this is a silly question. I'm using the unlinked mentions tool and as far as I can see the mentions are from my own site! I've attached a screen grab. Am I being a muppet? I thought that it would show mentions on OTHER sites that I don't have a link back to my site! The screen grab appears to show links on my site, as in posts on my own forum? Thanks for your help! Cw2bjhw

Self-cannibalizing issue with category page
I am doing well with a category page and I just ran a report card and am having issues with self-cannibalizing. I have a signature at the bottom of each blog post that links to this category page because it is my MAIN category. So I changed the anchor text so it didn't have the exact same keyword but underneath each post, it shows all the categories that post belongs to. Usually it is at least 2. So should I change the name of the category page and then have the SEO title be for the keyword I am ranking well with? Or should I just self-cannibalize? Or should I not have all the categories show underneath each post? I was thinking that would help lower my bounce rate since it would lead them to another page that interests them. Edit: To be clear, all these links are linking to that very category page. So linking back to itself. They are not linking to a different page with the target keyword. Also I am worried about reducing internal linking power if the anchor text is not the keyword I am trying to rank with? Help appreciated!

Backlinks From Scraper Sites - Should I Disavow Them?
I'm going through all the links (hopefully) to my website and I've found so many links from site scrapers. For instance: http://www.fzccg.com/cmsteam/dvbbs/boke.asp?zkhod76681.showtopic.148760.html ... which links to my site with anchor text "abercrombie uk How To Change Your Wiper Blades" It is surely not realistic to think that I can contact all the scraper site owners. So what should I do with this kind of links?

301 to main page or deeper page for best 'link juice'.
I have two rafting websites. One ranks high for one set of keywords. The other ranks okay for a different set. I want to redirect the whole second site to the first to give the first more link juice and hopefully lift the first site even more in the rankings. Would it be better to link to a deeper page of the 1st site. I have a page that does well for some long tail keywords or would it be better to link to the main page. Or is it a bad idea over all.

Contest Page Generating Links
My company is in the middle of a big contest that is generating thousands of backlinks pointing to the contest page on our domain. How do you suggest best using this authority we're building up with these backlinks to spread it to the pages we'd like to rank for, especially after the contest is over and we take down the page?

Is there a way to optimize our other domains for our primary domain?
Hi guys, At the moment we have our main website that is at .com We have also bought all the other domains that are available, such as: org.uk, .jp, .it, .mobi, co.nz, co.za, com.au, .cn and .eu Is there a way we can make these domains work for us a bit more? Currently they all just redirect to .com. Would it be better to put a holding page with a link to us and then a redirect on?
