Why is a site no longer being indexed by Google after HTTPS switch?
-
A client of ours recently had a new site built and made the switch to HTTPS. We made sure to redirect all of the HTTP pages to HTTPS and submitted a new sitemap to Google. GWT says the sitemap was submitted successfully but only 4 pages have been indexed where there should be over 2000. This has led to a plummet of organic traffic and we can't find the issue. Has anyone else had issues/success with doing a HTTPS switch that knows how to fix this problem?

Hi there,
Just checking in to see if you looked through the things Kevin mentioned and if you are still experiencing the indexation problem after the HTTPS switch?
Cheers,
Jane

There are so many things to check here. I imagine you've checked your server redirects, your host settings, your DNS, your robots.txt, your internal links, your canonical URLs, and your SSL cert. settings to make sure there are no problems and nothing is being blocked.
After that, you'll need to give this some time. Google might need to crawl your site again for your changes to get noticed. Post your URL so we can all take a look to see if there is anything else going on here.

How long does google index old urls?
Hey guys, We are currently in the process of redesigning a site but in two phases as the timeline issues. So there will be up to a 4 week gap between the 1st and 2nd set of redirects. These urls will be idle 4 weeks before the phase content is ready. What effect if any will this have on the domain and page authority? Thanks Rob

HTTPS Certificate Expired. Website with https urls now still in index issue.
Hi Guys This week the Security certificate of our website expired and basically we now have to wail till next Tuesday for it to be re-instated. So now obviously our website is now index with the https urls, and we had to drop the https from our site, so that people will not be faced with a security risk screen, which most browsers give you, to ask if you are sure that you want to visit the site, because it's seeing it as an untrusted one. So now we are basically sitting with the site urls, only being www... My question what should we do, in order to prevent google from penalizing us, since obviously if googlebot comes to crawl these urls, there will be nothing. I did however re-submitted it to Google to crawl it, but I guess it's going to take time, before Google picks up that now only want the www urls in the index. Can somebody please give me some advice on this. Thanks Dave

Best way to permanently remove URLs from the Google index?
We have several subdomains we use for testing applications. Even if we block with robots.txt, these subdomains still appear to get indexed (though they show as blocked by robots.txt. I've claimed these subdomains and requested permanent removal, but it appears that after a certain time period (6 months)? Google will re-index (and mark them as blocked by robots.txt). What is the best way to permanently remove these from the index? We can't use login to block because our clients want to be able to view these applications without needing to login. What is the next best solution?

My site dropped 10 spot on Google last week... why ?
Hello I have launched my site in April last year. http://www.hobartphotographertasmania.com.au/ It took a while but I finally got to rank 2 on Google for "Hobart photographer" and rank 1 for "photographer Hobart Tasmania". Suddenly last week my site dropped to page 2 and I don't understand why. Was there a Google update ? If not, what can be the reason for such a sudden drop ? Thanks Loic

How to resubmit a Web 2.0 site to Google?
I have 3 web 2.0 sites that look like theyve been hit by a penalty. I have checked their backlinks and there are a lot of backlinks from sites that have been deindexed. I have requested the removal of lots of the links, but now I need to resubmit the site to Google. Is this even possible with them being a web 2.0 site? I don't have webmaster tools for the site so how would I do this?
