230 town pages in 40 counties
-
I have a new client who has a service centre covering each of 670 towns based in the uk. The site is set up so it can break down to a county or town, e.g. www.caravanspareparts.co.uk/county-name/town-name.
I'm wondering at what level to point the SEO. So if I'm building keywords to the site, looking to get local pages served up for local people it would take a lot of link building to link to each of the 670 towns.
My suspicion is that if I link build at the county level, that the 'link juice' will trickle down to the towns underneath... e.g. If I link build to www.caravanspareparts.co.uk/lincolnshire, all the pages after that one (the town pages) will benefit... link text to this county-level page would be "caravan spares lincolnshire" etc...
Does anyone know if my logic is valid or can recommend an alternative approach?

Hi DeploySEO,
It does sound like you're on the right track realizing that content development is going to need to be a major priority here. Don't underestimate the amount of creativity this process requires and deserves - you want to create a finished body of content that your customer love and of which your company is really proud. Wishing you good luck:)!

Interesting article. It looks like my initial approach of setting up individual pages is thought to be the right way forward. I just need to think of ways to generate more unique content for each one.

You might find this useful. http://moz.com/blog/local-landing-pages-guide - especially the ** I serve a huge number of cities. Do I really have to create a page for each one?** bit!!!

I can see why you'd do that - interesting approach.

I am working for a client that has around 28 physical locations in one state only. When it comes to link building my idea is to get most quality links to the home page and other main pages of the website but do get links to other pages randomly so that your overall domain authority increase.
Just my 2 cents.

Will google be able to crawl all of the pages given that the pages displayed or the info on a page varies according to the city of a user?
So the website I am working for asks for a location before displaying the product pages. There are two cities with multiple warehouses. Based on the users' location, the product pages available in the warehouse serving only in that area are shown. If the user skips location, default warehouse-related product pages are shown. The APIs are all location-based.

How to optimize count of interlinking by increasing Interlinking count of chosen landing pages and decreasing for less important pages within the site?
We have taken out our interlinking counts (Only Internal Links and not Outbound Links) through Google WebMaster tool and discovered that the count of interlinking of our most significant pages are less as compared to of less significant pages. Our objective is to reverse the existing behavior by increasing Interlinking count of important pages and reduce the count for less important pages so that maximum link juice could be transferred to right pages thereby increasing SEO traffic.

Duplicate content on product pages
Hi, We are considering the impact when you want to deliver content directly on the product pages. If the products were manufactured in a specific way and its the same process across 100 other products you might want to tell your readers about it. If you were to believe the product page was the best place to deliver this information for your readers then you could potentially be creating mass content duplication. Especially as the storytelling of the product could equate to 60% of the page content this could really flag as duplication. Our options would appear to be:1. Instead add the content as a link on each product page to one centralised URL and risk taking users away from the product page (not going to help with conversion rate or designers plans)2. Put the content behind some javascript which requires interaction hopefully deterring the search engine from crawling the content (doesn't fit the designers plans & users have to interact which is a big ask)3. Assign one product as a canonical and risk the other products not appearing in search for relevant searches4. Leave the copy as crawlable and risk being marked down or de-indexed for duplicated contentIts seems the search engines do not offer a way for us to serve this great content to our readers with out being at risk of going against guidelines or the search engines not being able to crawl it.How would you suggest a site should go about this for optimal results?

How to deal with everscrolling pages?
A website keeps showing more articles when pressing a "load more" button. This loads additional category pages with a page parameter (e.g. ...?page=1, ...?page=2, etc.), as suggested by Google to get all pages indexed. The problem is that this creates thousands of additional, duplicate pages, with a duplicate title, header, and very unfocused content. They also show as duplicate content in Moz. The pages are indexed by Google, but none of them is ranking. What do you guys think: add a no-follow to the load-more button, so search engines will never see them? Thanks for your input!

301 redirect for page 2, page 3 etc of an article or feed
Hey guys, We're looking to move a blog feed we have to a new static URL page. We are using 301 redirects but I'm unsure of what to regarding page 2, page 3 etc. of the feed. How do I make sure those urls are being redirected as well? For example: Moving FloridaDentist.com/blog/dental-tips/ to a new page url FloridaDentist.com/dental-tips. So, we are using a 301 on that old url to the new one. My questions is what to do with the other pages like FloridaDentist.com/blog/dental-tips/page/3. How do we make sure that page is also 301'd to the new main url?

Should sitemap include https pages?
Hi guys, Trying to figure out some onsite issues I've been having. Would appreciate any feedback on the following 2 questions: My homepage (http://mysite.com) is a 301 redirect to https://mysite.com, which is under SSL. Only 2 pages of my site are https, the rest are http. Should the directory of my sitemap be https://mysite.com/sitemap.xml or should it be kept with http (even though the redirected homepage is to https)? Should my sitemap include the https pages (only 2 pages) as well as the http? Thanks, G

Optimize the category page or a content page?
Hi, We wish to start ranking on a specific keyword ("log house prices" in italian). We have two options on what pages we should optimize for this keyword: A long content page (1000+ words with images) Log houses category page, optimized for the keyword (we have 50+ houses on this page, together with a short price summary). I would think that we have better chances with ranking with option nr.2 , but then we can't use that page for ranking with a more short-tail keyword (like "log houses"). What would you suggest? Is there maybe a third option for this?

Cleaning bad pages
We have 10,000 of bad pages, which panda could track and penalize us for that. If we delete them we will get 404 error, and after that we could again get penality from G algo. How can i delete them to follow google rules and avoid penalities? If we make redirect of 10k pages with 301 to index, can 10k old pages be treated as duplicate?
