Question about tools for closing a location and erasing it from existence.
-
I have a client that is a bank that is closing a location. I have worked with moves, but not full closes. Is there an easy tool or method in Moz Local to close a location everywhere?
-
Sorry. I was reading in the discussion and someone had suggested changing the phone number on the listing and then closing. I'm guessing this would remove the NAP match of the listing and take away some of the negative issues with closing the location? That was what I was referring to. I appreciate your help on this. I am definitely much more informed on this than before and I don't know that there is a clear answer. It may come down to what the business needs to do from a non-SEO perspective and then we just adapt. I can only inform them of the difficulties and risks involved. Thanks again.

Hi Jeremy,
You might want to take this up with Joy Hawkins at Imprezzio Marketing as she has been doing a close study of the nuances of this scenario recently. What would you be changing the phone number to? Not quite sure I am following what you're describing.

Thank you. This is indeed a case where just the branch is closing and not the entire bank. IT looks like this causes a problem but from the thread was just confusing. Is it better to claim (if they haven't) and change the phone number on the listing before closing? Is it better to just leave it open if they still own the number even if the branch won't be there for people?

Hi Jeremy!
You can use the .CSV method to report a business as closed on Moz Local but this will only report it as out of business on our 7 supported partners - not web-wide. See 'Out of Business' section here: https://moz.com/local/help/documentation
So, using Moz Local would be a good start, but this would need to be supplemented with manual activity to close things like the Google+ Local page, the Facebook Place, Yahoo, Bing, etc. I am unaware of any service that closes a business web-wide.
*Note - if it is just one location of this bank that is closing while the main business remains open, be sure to check this out:

A question for a real citation building PRO (I am totally lost on this one) Thank you for ANY help!
Quick Q for your (local) SEO gurus. I have a client who has bought a number of local companies. (advertising, printing, graphic design, vehicle wraps) to compliment his screen printing, embroidery, etc business. ALL of these companies run out of the SAME address. What makes it even harder is he wants to continue operating them as separate companies. Fortunately, he is OK with using different phone numbers for each business but on the website (we are building for him) ALL the companies are represented like it is all one big happy company. How the H@#$ do I build citations for this business! 🙂 ??? THANK YOU FOR ANY SUGGESTIONS!! If I use the one 'parent' company building citations is a challenge bcs they do so MANY things in one location. If I try and build citations for 5 companies w the same address - that can't be a good idea either. If the plan is to eventually fold all these companies into the one parent company *(waiting to hear back on that) I would think the BEST advice would be to use the ONE phone number and address and just shoot for a general 'marketing' category. Not all business locations showing for a brand search
I've got a client with multiple business locations however when I type the company name into Google it's only displaying 2/3 of the branches in the local pack for that SERP. The client's picked up on this and would like the third location to appear in the local pack when people search for their company name. I have a suspicion that it's because the third location (the one that isn't displaying) has an address that's exactly the same as several other businesses that are located in offices directly above or to the side of them. My (very flakey) theory is that Google is perhaps uncertain about the exact location of this business given that there are several others with the same address but different business names, so the NAP consistency is being diluted and Google is simply leaving them out of the local pack due to the uncertainty over which business is in fact located at 2 West Street. So my question is, has anyone else had any issues of not all business locations showing in the local pack for a brand name query and if so how did you solve it?

Same location, same industry, same phone number, old name
Hey Moz! I was recently hired for some local SEO work and discovered this about my client. His business used to be called something else before he purchased it. He has the same phone number and same domain name, but there are Google My Business pages for both the old name and the new name, both of which have the same address, phone number, and domain name listed on them. I am not sure what the correct course of action is. Should I begin removing the old information? It seems as though there is no penalty in place but I don't want to build a campaign on a poor foundation. Is there a way to let Google know that this old page should not exist anymore? Any advice would by much appreciated!

Why the location of my queries is wrong?
Hi there, I've got a question related to the location of the queries shown in GWT. My company operates just in Spain but according to GWT the majority of my queries comes from Sweden. Let's say 75% Sweden, 20% Spain, 5% rest of the countries. Of course I've set as Internatinal Targeting Spain as country, How could this be possible considering that spanish it is not the main language in Sweden. Can this be changed? Thank u 😉

Do Local PPC Ads Get Ranked Higher Even Though the User Doesn't Specify Search Location
See the attached image.I searched for a drug called "Actos". The first Google Adwords result was a result specific to "Arkansas" which is odd because I didn't specify that I was in Arkansas. I understand that Google makes that recommendation because Google knows I'm in Arkansas. The resulting landing page has NOTHING to do with Arkansas and you can view it here: http://bladdercancerlawsuit.org/actos-bladder-cancer/My question is this: Does the fact that the AD has the name of the user's state (Arkansas) make the "click" less expensive or higher ranking or both? Is this known by Adword specialist community? I'm wondering because this is an expensive keyword and hard to guarantee top position for. If this is a technique we should incorporate, I'd love to do it. U1dfiiE

What to do with duplicate Listings for Business in Moz Local Tool?
Hi Everyone! Just another newbie Local SEO looking for a solution. I was searching my business listing in Moz Local and it returned two addresses.
Local Listings | | psuh528
Listing #1: 925 B Street #402 San Diego, CA 92101, 67623
Listing #2: 925 B St, #402, San Diego, CA, 92101 Do I need to remove the listing with two zip codes showing up? (I don't see any of my profiles showing up with two zip codes though.) Listing #2 is accurate yet the local moz tool tells me that my Google+ page is 69% complete. How is it possible that Listing #1 scored a 97% complete on Google+? Would you recommend putting the suite number in Address Line 1 or separated in Line 2? Does it even matter? Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks!0
