Highly interlinking a particular page shows up in Google search results?
-
Hi All,
As we can see the below statement from Google about internal linking:
"The number of internal links pointing to a page is a signal to search engines about the relative importance of that page."
https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/138752?hl=enSo if we interlink a page highly than other pages, will it rank on search results instead of homepage? Moreover if the page have "keyword" in URL slug...like www.website.com/keyword.
Thanks

It could end up outranking the homepage depending on how many links you have pointing to the page in question and how well optimized your homepage is for the keyword. Rather than focusing on ranking this page because of the URL though, I would focus on ranking the page that provides the best user experience. If the homepage is too broad to provide a good UX then maybe a separate landing page does make sense. If you're trying to outrank the homepage, the two things you have the most immediate control over are:
- decreasing the amount of times you use the keyword in prominent places on the homepage
- increasing the amount of internal links pointing to this other landing page
Best,
Daniel

Highlighting a page is our sudden plan as that page URL contains "keyword" we are targeting like....www.website.com/keyword. So, we feel like this "URL" with keyword in slug fetch in SEO if we highlight this page internally. But all our backlinks are pointing to homepage only. Will this workout?

Hi there,
It's certainly possible for a page to outrank the homepage for a keyword they're both targeting depending on both external and internal links pointing to it. As you point out, internal links are an important signal to Google about the importance of a relative page.
Ideally you wouldn't have multiple pages targeting the same keyword but if you do, you would likely want to leverage your internal links to influence which page actually ranks in Google if you have a preference.
Hope this helps!
Daniel

Question About Permalink Showing Up in Search Results
Does Google determine how your permalink shows up in the search results or is that a setting on our end? I noticed most of our competitors have their permalink show up in their snippet results. Ours shows "knowledgebase" instead. I think seeing the keywords in the permalink helps with conversions. https://screencast.com/t/fyFyNaWayajx

Javascript search results & Pagination for SEO
Hi On this page http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches we have javascript on the paginated pages to sort the results, the URL displayed and the URL linked to are different. e.g. The paginated pages link to for example: page2 http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches#productBeginIndex:30&orderBy:5&pageView:list& The list is then sorted by javascript. Then the arrows either side of pagination link to e.g. http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches?page=3 - this is where the rel/prev details are - done for SEO But when clicking on this arrow, the URL loaded is different again - http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches#productBeginIndex:60&orderBy:5&pageView:list& I did not set this up, but I am concerned that the URL http://www.key.co.uk/en/key/workbenches?page=3 never actually loads, but it's linked to Google can crawl it. Is this a problem? I am looking to implement a view all option. Thank you

Show parts of page A on page B & C?
Good afternoon,
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | rayvensoft
A quick question. I am working on a website which has a large page with different sections. Lets say: Page 1
SECTION A
SECTION B
SECTION C Now, they are adding a new area where they want to show only certain sections, so it would look like this: Page 2
SECTION A Page 3
SECTION C Page 4
SECTION D So my question is, would a rel='canonical' tag back to Page 1 be the correct way of preempting any duplicate content issues? I do not need Page 2-4 to even be indexed, it is just a matter of usability and giving the users what they are looking for without all the rest of the extra stuff. Gracias. Tesekürler. Salamat Ko. Thanks. (bonus thumbs up for anybody who knows which languages each of those are) 🙂0 -

I have another site tha when we type in the URL it only comes up as the first result. However when you do site:www.------.com All of these site are indexed in Google. It is not causing any problem we knoe of but it appears to me that our 1 site has it better? Or is it that maybe there are very minimal links to the site? Thank you for your time and consideration in answering my quesiton.

Empty search results labeled as Soft 404s?
I have a site with faceted search but sometimes when someone drills down too far it ends up with no results. The page and outlined and faceted navigation are still there. The site uses dynamic URLs for the faceted navigation but Google is reporting these no results pages as Soft 404s. How should we handle these? Should we redirect these? Can we return 404 in the status code but still show the no results page they are looking for? Thanks for your responses

Does a page on a site with high domain authority build page authority easier? i.e. less inbound links?
Is this also why people build backlinks to their BBB profiles, Yellowpages Profiles, etc. i.e. why do people build backlinks to other pages that link to them? Wouldn't it be more beneficial to just build that backlink directly to your target?
