Is it important to have a csv with high listing keywords?

I understand some digital marketing companies have a list of relevant keywords that are high ranking. I'm just curious why might they need it? I'm thinking about adapting this process into my companies marketing department, but I can't justify it if it is necessary. Could somebody care to explain why its important and an example when needed?

Hmmm - are you referring to a list of keywords that are relevant to each of their clients? EG if they're working with a pet food company, they're tracking "Dog food", "cat food", etc.?
Or are you referring to agencies that track an index of general competitive keywords to see how SERPs are changing over time? EG "credit card consolidation", "payday loans", "Women's heels", etc.?

If you have a list of keyword ideas (aka "a seed list"), whether it's 10, or 1000, you're going to have a hard time knowing exactly which one(s) to pick to target on your website if you don't know the the data behind those search terms. You might find that one of these search terms is much easier to rank highly for, where another is going to be nearly impossible.
Hopefully this helps shed some light. Using tools such as Moz Keyword Explorer can help gather metrics such as "Volume", "Difficulty", and "Opportunity" for your keyword search ideas. (It can also help grow your list of ideas!) Why is this important? These metrics can help determine what search terms you do and do not want to go after as a company.
Example: If I own a hair salon in Chico, California, and I want to start showing up in search results, I might come up with a list of keyword ideas that we'd like to rank for. Doing keyword research using a tool such as the one mentioned above, I might realize that while it's going to be very difficult to rank high for "hair salon in northern california", I actually have a good chance to rank high for "hair salon in chico".
Side-note: There's a Moz bootcamp class on keyword research, which may really help clarify further. (Highly recommended!)

Like if I use that markup with an article I publish on my site, will that get those words given that property keyword value? Will that affect SEO value? Do those replace what metatag keywords used to be? Or are they just like what metatag keywords are these days, no real value?0 -
On Page Optimization, F on all keywords?
On our website we have all F's even though we have the targeted keyword in the title, url, meta desc, h1, body and some of the img alt's. They still show zero uses of the keyword. Are we missing something here or is this some kind of bug or glitch? Any help or advice is appreciated, Thanks. How many keywords for home page?
I am a close up magician based in the UK and have just signed up for Moz Analytics and looking through the info now. The first issue was that it says my home page had an F grade for "table magician" My home page is not really optimised for table magician but Moz is suggesting I do. So my question is do I go with Moz and adjust my home page to match even though I have a dedicated page for table magician. Is this title tag for the home page too much. Ecommerce On-Site SEO: Keywords in Category Descriptions
Hello, I'm doing on-site SEO for a client's ecommerce site. Are 160 words enough for a category description? I'm using the keywords once at the top of the description, and once at the bottom of the description, with the ones at the bottom reworded so that they are the keywords with a different word order. I used to put the keywords in 3 times but it just feels like stuffing. Is twice, worded differently the second time, enough for a category description? Thanks.

SeoMoz Pro - Keyword stuffing but its a forum
hiya guys Just going through the Seomoz Pro on page thing One of the flagged items is keyword stuffing, I have 22 keywords (stuffed) but they want it down to 15, the thing is, my website is a forum. and the keyword stuffing is from the title name of each categories eg its a nightlife forum so Birmingham nightlife forum Brighton nightlife forum Leeds nightlife forum Manchester nightlife forum u get the picture To avoid this keyword stuffing, should I change some of the forum names to eg leeds nightlife forum > leeds nightlife forums? just by adding the 's that will half the keywords, but its not solving the problem in the long run, if i was to add more cities and areas with the XXXX nightlife foru.
