Is article writing and submission for link building a good idea in all circumstances?
-
I'm attempting to build links for a seafood market / restaurant and I'm finding my creativity and knowledge of SEO being stretched, which is a good thing of course. Can you help me grow here?
I have the client interested in writing articles but he has little time for this. I want to make sure it is worth it.
Is article writing and submission worth the time and effort for a business like this?
How would I go about link building though articles for a small business like this?

Try the following search in Google www [dot] CompetitorSite [dot] com "Article" OR "Author" -site:www [dot] CompetitorSite [dot] com this should show you what they are doing
(with the [dot] chnged to .)

Daniel, There are many ways to take advantage of links via writing articles for a restaurant. Guest blogging on other site that give reviews, writing your own blogs to include recipes, and submitting writing guest blogs for general restaurant or cooking sites. Most will allow a link back to the source if the article is written well.
http://www.squidoo.com/ comes to mind, but there are many, many more.
The key here is to have something of high interest to attract people. If you write a blog on your site, make sure you post on Twitter and Facebook. Recipes or cooking suggestions would be great for sharing on those platforms. When you do this, make sure you have both the Facebook Like button as with the Share this chicklets (the ones that show how many shares) as this encourages people to share when they see others doing so.

I suggest you to take your 3-4 competitor and see which type of link do they get from opensiteexplorer, starting from the juicy one.
After a while that you look at your competitor link profile, you will start to see pattern. Link acquisition pattern. So you will find that in your niche, one of the best strategy is for example to get review from blogger website. Or that you could get link from specific directory / website.
My suggestion is to calculate cost / benefit for each of those strategy, and then to start from the strategy that have the best ratio overall.

Hi, I'm doing internal anchor text links. Relative path. if I use /destination-page instead of https://website.com/destination-page will I still receive a transfer of internal Google trust to the destination page? Does google treat just the / url the same as full url??

Link cloaking in 2015\. Is it a bad idea now?
Hi everyone, I run a travel-related website and work with various affiliate partners. We have thousands of pages of well-written and helpful content, and many of these pages link off to one of our affiliates for booking purposes. Years ago I followed the prevailing wisdom and cloaked those links (bouncing them into a folder that was blocked in the robots.txt file, then redirecting them off to the affiliate). Basically, doing as Yoast has written: https://yoast.com/cloak-affiliate-links/ However, that seems kind of spammy and manipulative these days. Doesn't Google talk about not trying to manipulate links and redirect users? Could I just "nofollow" these links instead and drop the whole redirect charade? Could cloaking actually work against you? Thoughts? Thanks.

Are footer links important?
We currently display a list of links in the footer of our site to help boost SEO. They were put in place years ago and in a recent discuss with our UX team they requested we remove them from the site. Do footer links have any value? Or is this an old dated practice that no longer works? If we remove the footer links should we expect to see if have an impact on our SEO traffic?

Fading Text Links Look Like Spammy Hidden Links to a g-bot?
Ah, Hello Mozzers, it's been a while since I was here. Wanted to run something by you... I'm looking to incorporate some fading text using Javascript onto a site homepage using the method described here; http://blog.thomascsherman.com/2009/08/text-slideshow-or-any-content-with-fades/ so, my question is; does anyone think that Google might see this text as a possible dark hat SEO anchor text manipulation (similar to hidden links)? The text will contain various links (4 or 5) that will cycle through one another, fading in and out, but to a bot the text may appear initially invisible, like so; style="display: none;">Link Here All links will be internal. My gut instinct is that I'm just being stupid here, but I wanted to stay on the side of caution with this one! Thanks for your time 🙂 http://blog.thomascsherman.com/2009/08/text-slideshow-or-any-content-with-fades
