How to track with SEOMOZ a website in several language
-
Hi,
We have a customer with a website in EN, FR and ES. They used Joomfish, so each language is in a subdirectory :
sitename/en
sitename/fr
sitename/es
and they want their website to be well placed on the web for all that languages and countries:
English, French, Spanish, German and Italian. It is a website for specific affiliation, that's why there is no barriers.
What I need to do to use the best way SEOmoz. For the moment I created one campaign following Google US, google Germany and Google France. To go deeper, I would need to create different campaigns in my account?
And also, your robot will be able to recognize the different subdirectories and languages?
And to improve the SEO of this website, it wouldn't be better to have 3 domains name, one for each country?
Thanks a lot in advance for your answer,
Anne

Hey Anne
There was a discussion about this a while back:
http://www.seomoz.org/qa/view/29063/multilanguage-multicountry-strategy
The general consensus was that there is no perfect way from an SEO perspective at the moment to run a multi language site and that a single domain per country is a better way to go forwards.
If you are going to tackle this you will need to set up new sites for all but the primary language and then 301 redirect the additional language pages on the existing site to the new site. If it's joomla and everything is in a /dir and the new site maintains the same page names this should be easy enough with some mod rewrite wizadry in your htaccess and you should be able to write a single rewrite rule for each language to the new site.
Maybe some canonical URLs on the new sites if easy to implement as well to make sure there is no confusion about who is the owner of the content but the 301's should take care of that with time.
You can then effectively target each language / territory with one site and monitor each site as a seperate campaign.
Hope it helps.
Marcus

Changing the way SEOmoz Detects Duplicate Content
Hey everyone, I wanted to highlight today's blog post in case you missed it. In short, we're using a different algorithm to detect duplicate pages. http://moz.com/blog/visualizing-duplicate-web-pages If you see a change in your crawl results and you haven't done anything, this is probably why. Here's more information taken directly from the post: 1. Fewer duplicate page errors: a general decrease in the number of reported duplicate page errors. However, it bears pointing out that: **We may still miss some near-duplicates. **Like the current heuristic, only a subset of the near-duplicate pages is reported. **Completely identical pages will still be reported. **Two pages that are completely identical will have the same simhash value, and thus a difference of zero as measured by the simhash heuristic. So, all completely identical pages will still be reported. 2. Speed, speed, speed: The simhash heuristic detects duplicates and near-duplicates approximately 30 times faster than the legacy fingerprints code. This means that soon, no crawl will spend more than a day working its way through post-crawl processing, which will facilitate significantly faster delivery of results for large crawls.

Difference between Webmaster and SEOMoz back-link stats?
Hi there, I just noticed that there are differences between the links to my site showing on my Google Webmaster account and what is showing on my link analysis on SEOMoz. Has anyone noticed this? In webmaster I am showing 857 links to my site from 92 different domains. In SEOMoz I am showing 816 links to my site from 53 total linking root domains and only 39 followed domains? Does anyone know why this there is a difference? Are the links showing in Webmaster all indexed and followed links? Thanks in advance 🙂 Karl

Why Is SEOMOZ No Longer crawling All Of My Site
Hi all, I joined Seomoz over a month ago and Roger has been crawling all of the pages on the site approx 20 pages. Through out the last few weeks I have been working on the errors and notices identified by Roger. However, this week Roger has only re-crawled 1 page and is not picking up all the other pages. Has any one come across this problem. can you recommend any thing to resolve it? Many thanks in advance....

Why am I still Unranked in SEOmoz?
I was very active in SEOmoz's Q&A forums today and completed my profile - raising my Moz points from 0 to 50. On my profile, however, I am still listed as Unranked. Also, I do not appear on the SEOmoz Top Members List next to other users with 50 points. I'm guessing this is something that is updated once a day or so, and the rank will update tomorrow. Is my suspicion correct?
