Is the US$299 to be listed on Yahoo dir really worth it?
-
Im running a small businness and not in a really competitive keyword niche so, im not sure if the U$ 299 anually is worth it or not.
-
I liked that strategy, use it for a year to get leverage and then just let it expires.
By this and the other posts here looks like that getting listed in the directory isnt really worth for me at the moment.
Thanks for the opnion guys

Hey I have no tangible proof of its impact, but I've done it for our site - just in case.
Working on a shoestring I would find much better ways to invest that money.

I think that you will get "opinions" on this question rather than "facts".
Here is something to try and consider.
Find a competitor in the Yahoo! Directory by using this query in google
"competitordomain.com" Yahoo! Directory
That should show you that the competitor's domain may have received multiple links in the directory.
If you search for the language of the Yahoo! Directory for your competitor in quotes you might also find that other websites (usually low-value directories - but sometimes better sites) have grabbed the Yahoo! Directory information and are now using it as content on their websites - often with a backlink.
Try this for a few competitors in a couple of categories.
The point that I make is that you will often get more than a single link from Yahoo! and often many other links on many other sites. Depends upon your niche the mileage that you will get.
Is it worth it?
I believe that if you have a site that is just starting out the value of this link can be a nice contribution to your progress and in addition, Google might also give that link a lot more trust than almost any other link you can pick up with a few minutes of work.
However, if you have an established site with thousands of links then the Yahoo! Directory listing will not add a lot to your status in the SERPs.
That's my opinion. I use YD for newer sites and let it expire when they get good traction.

It's really not, the only benefit is the back link it provides. There are better directories I.e. Free that will provide the same benefits allowing you to put your $300.00 towards other small business needs.

If your Internet marketing budget is low, and your keyword niche has weak to moderate competition, you can still top the rankings by following plenty of the advice here at SEOMoz without the need to purchase a Yahoo directory listing for $299 per year in my opinion.

JPG's listed as the Top Pages in Moz
In Moz, under Links, my Top Pages are all .jpg's. Is this unusual? Should I change the names of those jpg's and redirect the jpgs listed on the Top Pages to the html page it can be found on?
Link Building | | Boweb
Like instead of people linking to this page: https://www.freequilt.com/cat-and-the-fiddle.html it looks like from the Top Pages that people are linking directly to this image: https://www.freequilt.com/images/nursery-rhyme-series/cat-and-the-fiddle/moona.jpg
My thoughts are to rename that image so no one is linking to it, and redirect the image to the html page. Would I be hurting my Google ranking any by doing so?1 -
Directory Listings no longer counted in Backlinks?
Interesting situation when I looked at Google Search Console this morning, I found that back-links from directories had dropped off and am wondering if anyone else is seeing this? Specifically, I am in Australia and had links from Yellowpages.com.au and Truelocal.com.au to my primary domain. Interestingly, Yellow Pages had gone a bit crazy recently in that the number of links to my site seemed to balloon exponentially from about 50 when I first listed to 700+ to 1500+ to 1800+ and then the balloon popped. Truelocal in contrast was only ever showing the 1 link. There have not been any changes from my end, and I only ever had one listing in these directories so not sure what generated all these extra links in Yellow Pages. Anyone else in Australia noticed a sudden drop off in Google Backlinks from Directories? If not it may just be a temporary blip.

Creating Local Listings for Small Business Clients - Verifying if phone call is only verification option? Are directory submission services worth it?
I'm relatively new to local SEO --- I do a lot of local websites for small businesses (restaurants, bars, hotels, attorneys, dentists) in my area and thought it would make sense to include basic local SEO work with my websites. I have a couple of questions about adding my client's businesses to local business directories... I've started by adding each business to Google, Bing, and Yahoo business listings. I verified these listings with the postcard option which my clients then email to me. I've started adding them to additional directories but have found that many local directories require a phone call to the business to verify it (no other options). How do most SEO companies handle this? Do I ask them to forward their phone to mine for a night? Does it make sense to do local directory submission by hand? I created a spreadsheet for each company and keep track of each directory I submit to (the directory name, verification status, and username & password). I looked at services like Yext but doubt they are as thorough as doing it by hand? Any other advice on local business directory submission would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

Still worth it to get listed on "resources" pages
Hello,
Link Building | | imcolej
I'm a new moz user who handles the online marketing for www.griefrecoverymethod.com. We provide grief support groups and 1-1 work as well as professional training for caregivers. We are on some websites as a grief resource, but not as many as I think we can be on. We have never attempted to reach out on a large scale to get added to sites. Is this type of link building worth a large campaign for us? Or has the ship sailed on link building with resource pages. I'm fairly new to all of this so any guidance at all would be appreciated. Thanks!0 -
Does the trailing slash really matter in terms of passing link juice?
Does the trailing slash matter? Say my website resolves to: link to: http://www.domain.com/ So if a user went to link to: http://www.domain.com it would 301 them to link to: http://www.domain.com Then does a link to: link to: http://www.domain.com**/** pass the same amount of link juice as a link to: http://www.domain.com ?

Backlinks: What are they really and how can I create them.
I am relatively new to the SEO world, and I want to build backlinks linking to our main site. My preferred way to create backlinks is by adding them in my blog comments or forum responses. I am an active participant in a large number of blogs/forums related to our field and I would like to add relevant backlinks in the comments/answers I post. I originally thought that a backlink was just a link, but none of the links that I have added to blogs like that have been recognized as backlinks. https://www.dynaread.com/ Why is this so? I know now that good backlink would be something like: Dynaread is a science based dyslexia remediation program for older struggling readers. However I have no idea how to add this types of links to blog comments or forum pages where there is no link tool. Do I have to do something with HTML? Please explain briefly what a backlink really is and most importantly how I can create them. Thank you in advance for your help! Joy P.S if you have suggestions about some resources where I can learn more about the subject please let me know. I love to learn more.

Large Paid Directories - Still Worth It?
Hi, So we've heard all the updates from Google lately: don't get involved in buying links, link networks etc etc. My question is, does buying a link from one of the traditional large directories get penalised by Google? If I was to buy a link from Best of the Web - http://botw.org/ - would this be a waste of time? Would I get penalised? If we are only buying 2-3 high value links for our site from very high quality directories, do you think this is fine? I'm asking because BOTW is having a sale today (tomorrow US time), half price submission. Thanks! Edit: Paid directories such as this are still featured on SEOmoz - http://www.seomoz.org/directories - so I'm thinking they still have value if used sparingly?
