Google places: 7 weeks and still not verified. Reasons?
-
I've created Google Places entries for the business' 25 locations in 8 countries. It's been 7 weeks and Google hasn't validated my bulk upload yet.
Which of the following would you say might do the trick?
-
URL: I have pointed to http://site.com/country/city for every location. Should I point to http://site?
-
I've created categories in English, but being this about local I guess I should do it in the local language of each country...
-
Should I cancel the bulk upload and do one country per country? My list of countries include Latin America, Europe, Africa and Asia so I don't know if manual verification is done by google centrally and that might be a problem.
Otherwise the entries are (IMHO) well written, detailed and all. But I'm kind of desperate now because it's 7 weeks already...
thanks for you help

In the past, I too have had this issue.
I've found repeatedly that the quickest way to get verified is to get the Google Places/Local dept. to actually call you and speak to a real live person. This way, you can verify instantly over the phone and not worry about postcard PINs.
Furthermore, I expect you'd be able to actually verify all your business locations during the same call, though it might take a while.
Directions as follow to reach Google:
What you want to do is to verify ownership of your business over the phone. In order to do this, you actually need to call Google. Visit this address to get the process started: http://support.google.com/places/bin/static.py?hl=en&ts=1399021&page=ts.cs
Under "Which verification method did you try" select " I tried PIN verification for a single listing" . At the next prompt, check "The status is NOT needs action". At the verification method prompt, check "Postcard" and then last check "Yes" when asked "Have you waited 15 days".
You will be given a "call us" link and a contact form. Never mind the form and click the call link. You'll enter your name and number and a real live Google rep will call you within a minute. Simply explain to them that your are trying to verify your Local+ or Places page, and ask if you can do it by phone.
You should be all set within two weeks, tops.

Hey Javier
It sounds like a standard verification to ensure you are not spamming the index. Probably one you have to wait out unfortunately.
Historically, when I have solved issues with google places uploads the pending message has given me a clue with regards to the problem but in this instance, 'needs verification' seems to mean that it just needs verification from google places staff.
Probably your only option is to upload them individually from different accounts local to the countries in question or wait it out. Sorry buddy, it's just a patience game.
Cheers

Thanks Marcus. All 26 listings are classified as "Needs Action" and all are flagged as "Needs ActionUnverified bulk upload. May not appear on Google. ".
Since all of them had the same basic structure in their details, I've tried different approaches: with/without categories, with data in Spanish (for some Spain listings) or English (for all countries), with the link pointing to mysite.com or mysite.com/country/city, etc.
But no luck so far.

Hey
If you look at the listings, what does it state about each one? Sometimes the listings themselves get flagged due to the content or some other reason and I have previously got pending listings instantly live by removing certain keywords from the services section.
Let me know the pending message as it may give us some clues & this has certainly been the case previously.
Of course, it could just be that it's a bulk upload and they want to verify it is not a spam attempt!
Cheers

Thanks PSV. That's what I've rad elsewhere too, that's it might take much more than the official 4 weeks.
Nevertheless, any idea about how should I proceed with the three items mentioned above?
Thanks

Hi,
Google can take a very long time some times to varify the bulk upload stream I have had to wait 6 weeks for my feed to be accepted in the past.
they must have a lot of them on back order because it seems to be taking more and more time.
Also make sure when you have the titles and content for the fields you do not add keywords which are not in your business name it will slow it down even further and make you have to do the process again.
Regards.

Homepage disappeared from Google
Hello, Since 2 weeks, our website is losing positions in Google. After years on the first page, we dropped for our main keyword to the 3rd page. Seems that all the positions we lost, were ranking with the homepage. Now, we are on the 3rd page but with a less important page. How is it possible that only the homepage disappeared? Is there any explanation for that? I hope there is an explanation, so we can fix the trouble. Kind regards, Tine

Google + and Schema
I've noticed with a few of the restaurant clients I work with that Schema isn't contributing at all to their SERP -- their Google + page is. Is there any way to have more control over what Google is pulling to help make UX better? I.e. showing photos of the restaurant without a logo, etc.

When does Google index a fetched page?
I have seen where it will index on of my pages within 5 minutes of fetching, but have also read that it can take a day. I'm on day #2 and it appears that it has still not re-indexed 15 pages that I fetched. I changed the meta-description in all of them, and added content to nearly all of them, but none of those changes are showing when I do a site:www.site/page I'm trying to test changes in this manner, so it is important for me to know WHEN a fetched page has been indexed, or at least IF it has. How can I tell what is going on?

Google Fetch Issue
I'm having some problems with what google is fetching and what it isn't, and I'd like to know why. For example, google IS fetching a non-existent page but listing it as an error: http://www.gaport.com/carports but the actual url is http://www.gaport.com/carports.htm. Google is NOT able to fetch http://www.gaport.com/aluminum/storage-buildings-10x12.htm. It says the page doesn't exist (even though it does) and when I click on the not found link in Google fetch it adds %E@%80%8E to the url causing the problem. One theory we have is that this may be some sort of server/hosting problem, but that's only really because we can't figure out what we could have done to cause it. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks and Happy Holidays! Ruben

Why is Google Still Penalizing My Site?
We got hit pretty hard by Penguin. There were some bad link issues which we've cleared up and we also had a pretty unique situation stemming from about a year ago when we changed the name of the company and created a whole new site with similar content under a different URL. We used the same phone number and address, and left the old site up as it was still performing well. Google didn't care for that so we eventually used 301 redirects to push the link juice from the old site to the new site. That's the background, here's the problem...... We've partially recovered, but there are several keywords that haven't come back anywhere near where they were in Google. We have higher page rank and more links than our competition and are performing in the top 5 for some of our keywords. Other, similar keywords, where we used to be in the top 5, we are now down on page 4 or 5. Our website is www.hudsoncabinetrydesign.com. We build custom cabinetry and furniture in Westchester County, NY just north of NYC. Examples - For "custom built-ins new york" we are number 3 on Google, number 1 on Bing/Yahoo. For "custom kitchen cabinetry ny" we are number 3 on Bing/Yahoo, not in the top 50 on Google. For "custom radiator covers ny" we used to be #1 on Google, are currently #48, currently #2 on Bing/Yahoo. Obviously, we've done something to upset the Google, but we've run out of ideas as to what it could be. Any ideas as to what is going on? Thanks so much for your feedback, Doug B.

Nofollow links in Google Webmaster
I've noticed nofollow links showing up in my Google Webmaster tools "links to your site" list. If they are nofollow why are they showing up here? Do nofollow links still count as a backlink and transfer PR and authority?
