Wc3 validation is it still that important
-
When looking to improve a sites ranking . I am working on a site that has script errors and needs fixing have you had any experience ?
-
are html errors more critical than css? for me css are more common
-
There was a 'ask Matt' google webmaster video on YouTube not too long ago where he talked about errors in markup - if I remember right he said it wasn't too important - but of course Ryan's comment is sound - so long as the errors don't break the site for users/crawlers.
-
They weren't critical as the page was able to load when scripting was turned completely off, but in the WC3 validator there were only a dozen errors so it shouldn't be too hard to fix them.
-
Ryan's on track.
Picture it this way - sure, millions of sites fail validation and yet still show up in search results. Except if there are enough errors, it could either prevent searchbots from successfully discovering all your content, or alternately, prevent search algorithms from properly evaluating content and topical relationships.
A newer concern is if there are too many errors that cause bots to slow down their crawl capacity, that will definitely impact a site's rankings if competitor sites have no such slowdowns.
-
what about the script errors here - http://www.radiatorcentre.com
anything to worry about.
-
If the scripting errors cause crawler and indexation problems, than they're problematic, but script errors like a lot of things have shades of gray. Some are really bad, some not as bad, and some benign.
WC3 validation is nice though as it's helping to insure the quality of the network in general.

is it still that important
I don't think it was ever important. Lots of sites still fail to validate and perform well on the web. Lots of pages on search engine sites don't validate.

Is page speed important to improve SEO ranking?
I saw on a SEO Agency's site (https://burstdgtl.com/search-engine-optimization/) that page speed apparently affects Google ranking. Is this true? And if it is, how do I improve it, do I need an agency?

I'm struggling with ranking for a really important keyword!
I'm helping with SEO for a client who has a very old website, but is updated regularly and has lots of relevant content for the keywords i'm looking to rank for. For other keywords we are able to get to position #3 on Google, yet for this one - the name of the town the website is about - we rank on page 15 of Google. I haven't done anything differently between the two and I really can't see why we can't get there. I've just done the monthly report for the client, and it's showing as being at position #1 for all of July - I checked during that month, and it wasn't. And then on 1st August it dropped to page 20 of Google. I understand slight fluctuations but this is pretty major. Can anyone help?

Can I have schema.org links as relative on my site? Getting an html validation error.
I'm getting an html validation error on relative schema.org links "Bad value //schema.org/Organization for attribute itemtype on element div: The string //schema.org/Organization is not an absolute URL." This is my code for https site: <code class="input">e itemtype="//schema.org/Organization"><a itemprop="url" class="navbar-brand" …<="" code=""></a></code>

Is this still considered true about INTERNAL anchor text? "Penguin seems to be targeting overly aggressive anchor text (both internally and externally), especially from low-quality sources."
Recently I've heard a few people say now it's okay to be aggressive with internal linking. So a link from mydomain.com/news to mydomain/widgets can use spammy anchor text like "best green widgets in California" that are an obvious problem for links coming in from external site. Which is accurate?

Stumped: Site No Longer Showing Up for Important Keywords
URL is: www.radianceofpalmbeach.comGreetings All:I have been working on our company's website for months, and I am finally at wit's end. The site was very out-of-date and had unfortunately been built upon some bad links before my arrival. My partner and I have redone the site with SEO best practices in mind: we created new content for the pages, and have been working diligently on correctly organizing the site. Despite everything we have done, our site has plummeted since September in terms of organic search. Here are some of my suspects: Panda/Penguin: a lot of the content of the old site had been copied. We did our best to make our content helpful and original, but I'm not sure we did enough. Also, many backlinks were suspect. I disavowed all that I didn't like Dec. 8. I have seen minor improvement, but not much. Name Change: Around late October, coinciding with one of the algorithm changes, the doctor insisted we change our name from New Radiance Med Spa to New Radiance Cosmetic Center. We noticed overnight tumbling, but it literally happened at the same time many were complaining about Penguin. Pages too far removed from root directory?: We tried to silo the site by category to make it specific, but I'm not sure if we went too far from the root directory. For example, our botox page is: http://www.radianceofpalmbeach.com/services/injectables/neuromodulators/botox-cosmetic/ -- Should it just be ./botox ? Everything is only one link away, so we didn't foresee a problem. No alternate forms of navigation: Our navigation is solely drop-down. Content Issues: Since the site launch, my boss has changed the organization of the site around. I don't think this should be a problem, but I honestly don't know. Technical Issues: We use a Wordpress site, and the designer has been pretty good about making the site clean and without errors, but perhaps there is something I am overlooking? ??: Despite these issues, I feel like our site should be considered better than many of our competitors who nonetheless perform much better than we do on important keyword searches. Type in "liposuction palm beach" or "botox palm beach" and we don't even come on page 1, whereas we used to dominate. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, as, like I said, we are stumped. I feel like I have looked up every possible problem, and with the above list, we feel frozen as to which direction to turn. Thanks in advance,Michael

Is it still worth changing a url with half the pages target keyphrase in to the entire phrase still ?
Hi If a pages url has half the pages target keyphrase (i.e. 1 word instead of 2) is it still worth changing to include entire keyphrase (2 words) given need to then add 301 redirects etc after ? If it was a new page then I would definately include full keyphrase but the page is a few months old and has quite high page authority as is (i know a 301 should transfer most authority) but given this page and other sub pages would also need to be 301'd if this change occurs and the dev time/cost that would incurred/charged by the design/dev agency. Also thinking Google being cleverer now (the pages content will be about the target kw) so thinking G would work it out from rest of page content and partial match kw in url. In other words to best target keyphrase is it best to leave url as is or change url to include keyphrase ? For example if the pages target kw is 'swimming clubs' and the current url is www.franksleisurecentres.com/clubs changing it to www.franksleisurecentres.com/swimming-clubs :Thanks Dan

How about this "onpage overoptimisation" everybody is talking about? Are the on-page optimisation reports still to be used?
Are the on-page optimisation reports still to be used? If we do check all factors we risk penalization because of latest Panda update?
