Matt Cutts on Article Marketing
-
I've been waiting for Matt Cutts to talk about this for a long time... finally a YouTube video!
"Should you syndicate your articles out to sites such as ezinearticles.com as a way to build links?"
He discussed this from an SEO perspective and does not recommend it. I thought that he was way too polite about it... but if you are a guy like him it isn't good to talk trash about the specifics.
One topic that he didn't address was how article marketing can impact your competitive position. It feeds existing competitors and creates new competitors. You write twenty articles and they are each published by twenty sites, now there are 400 pages with your keywords out there competing against you. Not smart, IMO.
Here's the link to the video...

True. And it IS fun watching the 90% out there with their fishing gear, their custom fishing trawlers, all set to catch fish, then throwing nets into the water where the holes in those nets are bigger than almost all the fish in the ocean

Of course there are those that would argue against such thinking. ..... The rest of us will continue to drive quality and relevance.
Most will argue is my experience, Alan.... but I think that SEO is like fishing... 10% of the fishermen catch 90% of the fish.

The only value article marketing ever really had from a long-term perspective was to boost article marketing sites. They're the only ones who could ever possibly win. Except even Panda has slapped most of them now as well.
It's a quality win all around.
Of course there are those that would argue against such thinking. Which is fine by me. Let them continue living in the illusion. The rest of us will continue to drive quality and relevance.

Duplicate Anchor Tag Issue and Content detected in Article Marketing, Great words of Matt Cutts ..

Nothing unexpected there...

Ooooh...good find. I'll likely be sharing this a lot!
I really think the key to good linkbuilding is to know that if you created the link yourself then it's likely not worth much.

Interlinking articles and posts
I have many articles and blog posts on my site. How should I interlink them for the MOST benefit to my root domain. For example, should I consider pointing pages with higher SEOMoz page rank or trust to those with lower rank? Or does that not matter?

Multiple submissions to article directories
Hello, I would like to ask if I can submit the same article to multiple article directories. I have read that while only the first published article will gain credit and show on search engines, but the all the links generated from the publishing the article at different sites will still tally up and count as separate backlinks to my website. Is this true, or is 1 or a few links going to be counted from the 1 article?

Linking articles to each other
I've been using white-hat article marketing to post original content about my niche to credible article directories (yes, I realize many of them were recently devalued). My question is: Is it a good or bad idea to have future articles link to older articles, as a way to increase the chances of having the older articles indexed, or increasing the amount of link juice they pass to my site (since they point to my site)? I get 2 links per article and was thinking of using 1 to point to a prior (related) article, and the other to point to my site.

How does Google interpret articles or prepositions in languages where it's attached to the (key)word?
Hi, All! This is for any foreign language SEOs where articles or prepostitions such as "the" "to" "in" or anything else are actually part of the word they are modifying and not a separate word, as in English: How does Google understand those words on-page and in anchor text? If you want to optimize for the word "house", and your content/anchor text says "the house" or "in the house" (again, all one word) - what does Google count that as? Does it count toward "house"? Does it count toward "in the house" only? Does it count toward "house" but not as much as if you had just put "house"? I end up sometimes writing slightly grammatically-off content because I want to optimize for the keyphrase - but is that necessary? Obviously different languages might be different, but you can probably project a little from one to the others. Thanks in advance!
