Using Social Bookmarking for SEO: How

Hi guys,
how do you guys really use social bookmarking for seo? in terms of lets say really trying to optimize the domain in general for authority, etc, do you submit blog post to diff social bookmarks, etc? Whats the best strategy you've used?

Agree with EGOL. if you can create some amazing linkbait content - think viral, creative, or awesome infographic you could in theory leverage this to a short burts of traffic, inbound links etc. depending on the site and content you could leverage on digg, reddit, stumpleupon, etc. the problem with these social sites is that you typically have to be an active member to start leveraging links and information for real value.

I don't think much of social bookmarking. Instead I think of social sharing.
If you have a fantastic new piece of content. One that is best-on-the-web for its topic. Submitting it to a social sharing site such as slashdot, digg, reddit or stumbleupon could bring a LOT of traffic. If your article becomes popular on one or more of these sites you will get a LOT of visitors, lots of tweets, likes, bookmarks, etc.
The results can be impressive, with extremely popular content getting over 100,000 visitors in a single day - often crashing your site if you are not on robust hosting or dedicated server. There is even a special name given to this type of traffic wave - the slashdot effect.
It is not easy to have this quality of content. I spend up to a week or more on a single article and only have a few that get the slashdot effect per year.

Another thing that everyone should do is make social sharing easy. One way to do that is by using AddThis.com buttons (or a similar service) on every page of your site.

Using web dev agencies to generate backlinks
Going to start by saying I'm totally new here, so apologies in advance is this is a dumb question! I run a site that is focused on home buyer education. The site is brand new, so no almost no link profile, and I'm trying to grow my backlinks. On twitter I've had success with real estate agents sharing my articles to their followers, which is great. It helps them educate their customers and feeds the social media beast. I realized that realtors, mortgage brokers, and insurance agents (all relevant to my niche) don't usually run their own websites. Many of these sales people leverage agencies, and often the agencies offer blog posting as part of their service offerings. I'm tempted to do some outreach to these agencies and offer to write guest posts. I figure they get free, quality content and I beef up my link profile. Is this a bad idea? Are there any risks with this approach?

How to create good SEO content for an essentially thin ecommerce site?
I have a retail website that in the past has been hit by a manual action for crappy backlinks (these were all done by a previous agency and up until the penalty providing very good results). We have since removed all of the rubbish backlinks and have come out of manual penalty and are looking in to our long term strategy in terms of content and link building. We have a blog within our site that does well with traffic and with an OK conversion to the products that feature within the posts, we are also putting together a strategy in terms of long term content plans and while this is all very good for the blog, the ecommerce part of the domain continues to suffer. I know that part of this is because we did remove all of these links that were giving it juice, but where do you start with SEO when what you are dealing with is essentially thin content? With around 7000 products, every page has unique descriptions and titles that have been updated to remove keyword stuffing and over optimisation that has occured in the past. We don't want to go down the route of getting an agency that is going to put us back in Googles bad books, but how do you go about getting a retail page juice without firing backlinks at it? Not looking for the holy grail here but just looking for some advice, I want a clear idea of a direction to go in before recruiting an agency to do this.

Proof that Pinterest links are worthless for SEO?
One of our most popular blog posts (http://www.yournextdress.com/5-back-baring-dresses-rosie-huntington-whiteley/) has been pinterested 25K-56K times (22K according to Google Webmaster Tools, 56K according to the Pinterest widget). Still, when I do a google search for "5 Back-Baring Dresses Like Rosie Huntington-Whiteley", our blog post is outranked by Polyvore. While the latter has a much higher domain authority, the page they're outranking us with is simply linking to our page and has zero authority. In other words, it seems like over 25K links from Pinterest does nothing for the authority of our page. Am I not understanding things correctly? Let me emphaisize that we've never done any sort of link building on Pinterest, all the links have been generated organically (if that is the right term).

Is there an easy way, through passing variables in a URL, to track the links from a specific blog post? I am looking into using a query on the Google search that would return a list of the site that have been indexed that link using that specific query. Thanks!
