Getting into DMOZ for my coaching site
-
Hello,
Before I submit to DMOZ, I'm wondering if my site is one that would get indexed:
Also, if you have any hints beyond what I can read at DMOZ I'd really appreciate it. I don't want to submit and then after several months get rejected.

An excellent answer, just what I was looking for. Thank you!

Thanks again Ryan!

Hi, I am a DMOZ editor for Mount Gravatt (Brisbane suburb) and I prefer to see listing like this:
Powertalk International
Public speaking coaching services. Features programme structure, meeting schedule and contact information. Not like this:
Best Public Speaking Caching | 100% Money Back
We offer the best and fastest service in Brisbane. Call us now for guaranteed results.Writing a nice objective description without sales jargon gets you in faster as well as submitting to the correct category. The internal DMOZ system is a bit silly and it can be a pain to move listings around - you basically get shoved into somebody else's backlog. Pick your category right, not by pagerank but by common sense.
Some editors are very busy - while others who manage very niche categories are not. Also the frequency of them logging in varies heaps. I believe an editor must log in and edit at least once every 6 months before their account is suspended.

Agreed.

Hi, To be honest I do not really feel DMOZ is the best site to worry about any more.
It is not the most important directory that it once was say 8 years ago in SEO, where people were desprate to get on.
You can try and apply a few times, but from my experience it is really a chance thing it can take around 12 months if not more some times to get accepted.
If you want your site to get indexed, build some good content, links from a few social sites like twitter, digg, stumble upon, add the site to webmaster tools, try and generate some buzz via related sites and it should get indexed with no problem.

There is not any solid means to determine whether a site will get indexed with DMOZ. Their standards fluctuate wildly.
Each category is moderated by a volunteer. Some of these volunteers are good people who sincerely care about their work, but there are many who do not. You can offer a fantastic site which adds value to the web and have it ignored, meanwhile a relatively junky site gets into DMOZ.
I would always suggest trying, but the way their system is designed it seems you can simply do the best you can and hope. They are by far the worst major directory and the sole reason for their recognition is the relationship with Google. When that ends, their directory will quickly disappear in my opinion.

I would probably advise not bothering, A Dmoz listing is not worth half as much as it used to.
Your time could be better spent writing content or improving your website.

Accidentally generated navigation links that point to American site from Australian site.
Somehow we ended up getting hundreds-of-thousands of links coming from our .au (Australia site) to our .com (America site). We believe that something happened during a change that turned a handful of our example.com.au navigational and footer links into back links pointing to example.com and sub-domains of the American version. We are currently fixing this, but we are wondering if this could potentially be problematic in terms of a penguin penalty due to an unnatural linking campaign or back link scheme. Could this error create major problems for us in the near future if we have corrected the issue? Your thoughts are welcome! Thanks!

Backlinks from non-relevant site
There's a forum I used to participate in that allows you to include a link to your website in your signature block. I have over 500 posts in the forum so that provides a lot of backlinks to my website. However, I recently decided to remove my website link from my signature for two reasons: The forum is 95-99% dead. Hardly anyone uses it anymore. BTW, the website that houses the forum is still popular within is niche (articles, etc). Just the forum appears to be dead. The website and its forum really have no connection whatsoever to my business. I'm in a completely different niche. However, I have no idea if I've made the right decision. Will removing my signature and the backlinks hurt my site? Or will it help it since the other site really isn't related to mine? Thanks for any thoughts on this!

Ad banner from news site
Hi Everyone, I have a company calling me about adding a banner for our business on a news site for a monthly fee. The fee includes the banner and a profile page. The domain authority for the news site is high (84) but the profile page that it links to actually goes to a 3rd party site (DA=65). It is from this page that I could link back to our site. Aside from the marketing value of the 250x300 ad on a page that gets a ton of traffic, would it be better to link back to our site from the profile page on the 3rd party site or directly from the banner on the news site? I hope I've given you enough info. Best,

About to get my competition domain, how what I can do?
Hello, I'm trying to get a domain from what it used to be my main competition, if I get this domain can I forward the domain to my website? because they have good local ranking that I don't have and also a lot of links. I don't really want to use that brand name, I just want to take advantage of the links they already created if that possible. Or can I do something else with the domain or just buy it and keep it so nobody else can buy it? Thank you

Run of Site Links
I recently got a link from a relevant site but it ended up being a run of site link. The site has over 3,000 pages that now link to my site. Will my site get penalized for this?

Strengthening my personal coaching site
Hello, My domain for my personal coaching site is my name bobweikel(dot)com and I think this is weak for all of my keywords, but I'm sticking with it. What's some of the easiest way I could gain strength with national keywords so that people will pursue phone coaching with me, terms like nlp coach wealth and success coach wealth coach personal coach life coach I know that these are varying greatly in competitiveness. Thanks!

Links from Domain Portfolio Advertising Sites
I recently purchased a domain from a someone with a large portfolio and my site's link is still found on thousands of his one page/low quality sites. I find these links on Open Site Explorer but not in WT. Should I ask the portfolio owner to remove the link from his low quality domain advertising sites?
