Citations have dissapeared from places listing
-
This site citations have dissapeared from the 'more about this place' and looks to have effected the maps ranking by dropping the listing a few places:
The citations that have been removed are:
http://www.truelocal.com.au/business/stella-settlements/burswood
http://www.hotfrog.com.au/Companies/Stella-Settlements
http://www.yellowpages.com.au/wa/burswood/stella-settlements-13951907-listing.html
(all of these are listed on other competitors citations currently)
(also the places page is using the reviews on Truelocal.com.au listing above which is strange)
Do you know why these citations listings have been removed, however these have not been removed on competitors places pages by Google?
thanks

Google has changed the guidelines for this many times. From what I understand, you need to have one listing for the company (for example, if it is a hospital or an attorneys office... or in your case a real state office). Then, you need to have individual listings for each person in that office (doctor so and so.... attorney so and so... realtor so and so). Hopefully each of you have individual numbers or extensions; or Google may try to merge the listings. I have done this before for a dental office and all worked out fine for each individual dentist as I followed the guidelines.

Ah that makes sense
This could be a problem for our listing too actually as we're in a big complex with many businesses.
-
Now the question is what to do about that! I'd love to know the answer. It's against Google's TOS to add something like, "Office #1" or "Suite A" to make the address different.
The way I understand it is that if multiple people share an office they're only supposed to have one listing.
-
thanks Dunamis. I see that could be the issue here as there are 3 businesses in the same office here, which could be the reason for loosing the citations on the places page.
-
thanks for the response Dejan. - no, it's not blackhat, it's the other 2 businesses in the same office. It's a shared office. - and yes, looks like someone went through to give every single site in the top 20 besides themselves a 1 star rating - I don't see the true local listing in the maps listing

Something funky is going on with our places listing as well. I think Google is making algo changes and it's messing things up!
Our listing lost its citations. Then, it was delisted for "not meeting quality guidelines". I stripped the listing of everything that could possibly be causing the issue (including taking a keyword out of the title that actually was part of our business name).
Then all of a sudden we had two listings. Our original listing had 4 citations. The new listing has 122. It looks like the issue was our address. Because we are a real estate listing Google thinks that all of the other agents that we share an office with are the same as us.
I'm still deciding on what to do but right now I'm not doing anything because we are #2 in the serps with our places listing and it's bringing us traffic.
My advice would be to do nothing for a few days and see what happens when things settle. Take a look and see if Google could be considering your address a dup.

Hey there,
I can still see TrueLocal but not the others.
The reason could be that somebody has created duplicate listings for this address:
- http://www.hotfrog.com.au/Companies/Superannuation-Investment-Insurance-Advisory-Services
- http://www.hotfrog.com.au/Companies/Aglink-Planning-Systems
What is this Google Places backhat!?!
I've also noticed a spammer has downvoted this particular listing and what seems to be all his competitors: http://maps.google.com.au/maps/user?uid=201850203609104288979&ptab=1
This is terrible.

Getting A Duplicate Listing Removed
I just found a duplicate listing for our business. It's under a different name and address but the phone number is the same. The duplicate listing needs to be deleted, BUT, here's the problem: no one verified the listing (it was our old firm). And now, to delete it, we have to verify it first, but we don't have access to the building to get the letter. Also, we can't ask the current tenants to give us the letter, because it's another law firm and they just aren't going to help us out. So, any ideas? Ruben

How important is a high listing score in getlisted.org?
I checked Moz out on getlisted and found a score of 28%. I believe this is telling me that Moz does not consider this an important piece(getlisted.org) to a local marketing strategy. Also(as you can see in the image) getlisted shows missing listings when the listings are actually with these directory providers. (Not just Moz, but other companies I do local marketing for.) Plus I've noticed that at the bottom of the page the "unable to contact", Bing has been there for a long time. Is this going to be fixed? My clients know about getlisted.org and they are looking to me for answers on how to get them a higher listing score. Is this a tool that can assist in showing clients how well their listings are showing in local marketing or not? moz-getlisted.jpg

A lot more citations than competitors OK?
Is it OK to have 2 times as many citations as competitors? I want to make up for factors such as less reviews.

Google Places Verification
Sometimes you can verify and claim a Google Places listing via phone, other times they will only send a post card. ANy reason why? Is it lack of trust to verify via phone or old dulpicate listings? Post card is just so unreliable. ANy way to "force" a phone verification?

New Local Tracking Number for Places vs an 800 Number.
I am having a problem with local search for my business. I submitted the same NAP (Name, Address, Phone) info to Google Places as I have submitted via LocalEZE and Universal Business Listing. Here is the issue. The local number that is being used does not have any way to track calls, meaning the phone company (xo communications) does not give us the number of incoming calls. To add call tracking to the local numbers through our PBX system is very expensive, $2000 per store. Also to transfer this local number to a call tracking company (like callsource or whoiscalling) is a lot of trouble and not an option either. I need to track the call count somehow so I have two options left. 1) Get a new local number (that is also a tracking number through a phone tracking company) and then submit this to Google Places, LocalEZE and Universal Business Listing. The issue with this is that all of our citations will be re-set with a new local number, basically we'd have to do local SEO all over again. 2) Use the main 800 number in Google Places, this can be tracked. However, then our local number is on all of the NAP citations and Google Places will be the only web property with an 800 number. What are your thoughts?

What are the best practices for Google Places for a manufacturer?
A manufacturing client has distributors around the world. Can I add these distributors to my client's Google Places account through the bulk upload feature? Is there a better way to ensure that people searching in the company's various territories see a Google Places entry for the appropriate distributor?

Would 2 Google Places locations help my Google Places ranking?
Hi. Our agency office is located in a "bad" zip code relevant to active businesses who would need our agency services. In a nutshell, we get really bad inquiries who can never afford our services...and it's coming directly from the Google geolocation function. We plan to relocate our offices within 1 year. Would it help us in Google Places if we created a "new" physical office location to cover up the "bad" one we are currently in? We could use a paid location like a UPS Mail Center physical address that is located within a more desiring zip code. Thanks for any input. Jay
