Starting My First Backlink Campaign
-
Hi Team,
I've started my first campaign and would like some advice on building backlinks. I have got the no. 1 competitor's backlinks through OSE. Here is the first backlink URL as mentioned in OSE. for them:
www.uofaemergency.org/ (DA: 45 PA:44)
However the backlink appears on another page of that domain, not on the homepage as it says in OSE. That backlinking page as a PA of just 1. Do I go for the homepage or the page on which the competitor's backlink appears?
It is an unrelated site to the niche and the content in which the link appears is nonsensical. Does this matter as far as link juice is concerned? Is this a good site or page to get a link from?
How do I go about getting an in content anchor text link from this site? What's the required process?
I would like to start buidling good links asap and start to get rankings for my site.
Thanks.
Sunil.

PS: How do I find the competitor's links that are earned by editorial acculmulation?
It says that these links are acquired through creating citation worthy material in relevant communities. What types of communities and what's the correct process of acquiring these links?

Ok I'm still confused. I went to the Competitive Link Research tool and I plugged in my URL at the top plus the URLs for the top 3 Google results for my target keyword phrase. The first 2 results on the SERPs is from the same domain. The top result is the root domain, the 2nd result is a page on that root domain.
I got 53 results in the competitive link research tool. Again, the problem is that they are all in content anchor text links in useless crappy content on sites totally unrelated to the niche. Some of the backlinks are from RSS Feeds but, again, I 'm not sure how to get these links either.
In the tool it says that the site links to 2 competitors but in most cases I'm only seeing a link to 1 of those competitor's sites. I don't know if having 2 of the top 3 results from the same domain affects the number of competitors that it gives.
How am I supposed to build these same in content links in crappy content? I am not seeing any easier linking opportunities in these results like blog commenting, directories, resources or link pages (unless the RSS feeds qualifies as one of these easier linking opportunities?)
What do you suggest to find easier linking opportunities within this niche or from the competition sites?
I'd like to get started building these backlinks soon!
Thanks.
Sunil

Your competitor probably built this expressly for SEO purposes. For that reason, they're probably not going to link out to you, no matter how smooth your link request approach is.
Competitive link research can be a great way to find links, but you don't want to go after all of them. Go after their highest quality and strongest links - the ones earned not by any specific linkbuilding action, but by editorial accumulation. Aside from those, go after the easy targets - directories, blog comments, resources or links pages, and blogs. If they don't have any of those, and they're all manually built crap like the example you sent, then maybe your competitor's backlinks aren't the right place to start.
BONUS TIP: To maximize your competitive link building success, use SEOmoz's Competitive Link Research Tool to find websites that link to multiple competitors. The idea here is that this weeds out websites that are affiliated with any one specific competitor, including links like the above example that were built manually. What you are left with is a list of websites that are known to link to websites in your niche and typically aren't commercialized so there's no real incentive not to link to your website. These websites are a great place to start.

Spammy backlinks
I am very new to this site and need some help. I have two spammy backlinks in my report that were done by my host provider as I hired them for SEO. When I click on the web site there is no where to contact them. I can only subscribe to their group and I sure don't want to do that. Is having two ranking as an 8+ awful. I don't know if I should do the Disavow route or not.

Backlink redirects and resulting SEO impact
Hi, Please see the target URLs on the links in this article: http://www.nextgov.com/technology-news/tech-insider/2015/07/government-hacked-yet-again-its-time-make-government-cybersecurity-national-issue/118561/ As you can see, there is a redirect in place, presumably for tracking purposes. Do these links carry full SEO value?

Best way to build backlinks
Hey guys, I was wondering what is the best way to build back links ? I have all the read moz's articles regarding this and I know the crucial parts are creating content, engaging users via social media etc. What I am interested in knowing is whether guest posting is still a solution to create that domain authority you need to rank ? I've spoken with some people that told me guest posting is out of date and will not pay off using it. By using guest posting of course I relate to creating unique content and valuable to the user. Thanks, Andrei

Where should I be focusing SEO efforts first?
Hi everyone, I am a digital marketing intern at a small marketing business. They have a really horrible, 1990's ish website which I am currently working with them on a plan to completely redo within a few months. Until then I am fixing some issues on their current site which includes SEOing their current content that will be moved to the new site. They have a ton of issues which include, but are not limited to, missing meta descriptions and title tags, no official keywords incorporated into their content, no analytics or tracking of keywords, a poor use of social media, and duplicate content. My plan was to fix all these issues first, then when the site relaunches really start focusing on the more advanced bits (which include link building). The previous intern spent 99% of his time posting on forums building "backlinks". I've been going through his posts and saw he posted on mainly marketing forums on topics but never included any type of link back to the site in his posts or on his forum profile (his reasoning was he wanted to gain a reputation with the forum first so the admin would not delete his posts or so he'd be able to put a link in his signature). He and the owner of the business say that this is the best and most effective way to help SEO and the owner is questioning whether or not I concentrate on that instead of the other issues. So what do you think? Do you think I should be fixing all these issues first and waiting until the site relaunches to concentrate on forum backlinking? Or do you think it would be more effective to just focus on my energies on forum backlinking? Also - the previous intern also told the owner that Wordtracker was a poor investment and is not useful. I have always thought that was sort of an industry standard. Do you think he's right? If so could you recommend something else? Any thoughts are appreciated. Thanks 🙂

My Backlinks droped form 3500 links to 700 in few days
I know it's strange but this what happened : i had like to 3500 Backlinks from 600 different domains and in one week it droped to 700 backlinks from 260 Domains .. I believe these huge backlinks was there for just 6 or 7 weeks from directory submissions where i was nearly in all the directories sidebar as a new link .. Now my ranking droped from 1st position for more than 6 keywords( for more than a year ) .. to the 5th and 6th page where its just jumbing in the different positions for more than 10 days now and this for all Keywords .. and my question is it a google dance cause i used to has a good ranking with this few number of links and this huge number was there for just 6 weeks .. or shall i go wild to come back to this number of backlinks again ..
