Trying to rank against keyword in domain
-
I am trying to rank for let's say the keyword "their site" , my competitor has theirsite.com, with next to no seo but are ranking #1 , my site lets say is mysite.com/their-site my site is about the same age and has a PR of 4,their site has a PR of 0 and 2 backlinks, how difficult will it be to get to number 1, am at spot # 5 in google now. Thanks David

I'll just add the comment that you shouldn't push the exact-match anchor text too hard. You will definitely need some well-targeted links and copy, though.
If they really have PR0 and 2 back-links, I'd focus hard on quality, too. A couple of strong, relevant links could make a huge difference, much more so than dozens of spammy links. If Google is letting a site with 2 back-links rank at #1, it's not just the exact-match domain, most likely. It's likely that the rest of the Top 10 has some quality issues.

Other factors to research as James pointed out, but keyword in the domain is only 1 of many factors. I've seen many examples of Exact Match domains being in the 8 or 9 position AND they have a lot of strong SEO elements.
I wouldn't spend much time sweating it. Focus on developing the best property you can, with great content, structure, UX, backlinks etc.

I would say links and quality ancor texts is the key here. I'v overtaken exact match domains before and ofcourse on-site opt has a big role in this but it was the links with exact match ancor text that did the job for me.

Would need to investigate the site, can Exact Match Domain is powerful yet it is dropping.
My advice is to target this keyword via your Index Page too, and also target it on the dedicated sub folder.
Push quality link building, Push quality content, Push Social signals, keep working hard and you can do it. I have seen in many niches where exact match domains are dropping in rank.

Long tail keywords / Close variations of keywords / Duplicate Content
In a classified site, people usually search for the same item with different keywords which are often very close to each other and point to same set of results: e.g. honda civic for sale
Competitive Research | | razasaeed
used honda civic for sale
civic for sale
used civic for sale
used civic All the above keywords should actually lead to same results i.e honda civic for sale. Our competitor is creating a page for each one of these www.sitename.com/q/honda-civic-for-sale/
www.sitename.com/q/used-honda-civic-for-sale/
... and so on Basically they create a page for each high traffic keyword they encounter where as we have very structure search. How to compete with that ? They are ranking on all these long tail keywords because of separate landing pages though most of the pages are duplicate of each other. 98% same content (all are showing honda civics) Should we go that route OR optimize our single page focusing on keyword with highest traffic and hope google will rank us for the related keywords as well ?0 -
Out of Stock page ranking
When a competitive site is consistently ranking for a product that is never in stock, or in some cases, has been discontinued for several years and will never again be in stock, is there a way to communicate that information to Google?

How can I boost page rank rather quickly
I have had a site for 10+ years and recently decided to really put a lot of effort into boosting its page rank. In the last 2 months, I have 1. participated in forums 2. gotten a number of reasonably high ranking websites in my industry to link to my page i.e. creating 100's of external, do-follow back-links 3. created some external websites which are subject matter specific to my industry that are pointing back to my website. At this point, these sites do not have much in the way of page authority So far, my sites Alexa ranking has increased considerably from a rank of ~20M to ~1.7M worldwide. How do I go about increasing my page rank / mozRank equally as quickly? Having done a campaign of the competition, I noticed that most of their links are internal i.e. 750k+ which is nothing more than noise because they are not offering anymore information/products that we're offering. Moreover, we have duplicated all of their external links and then some. Finally, they have created a number of 'feeder' sites that all point back to them each with a page rank of 4. This is were they are obtaining the bulk of their 20k+ external links. What do you suggest that I do that I have not done already?

I must be tripping. How is this site ranking for the term "SEO Company"??????
When I go to Google non-custom search results and search the term: seo company The website "greencowseo.com" is ranked 3rd. OpenSiteSearch shows nothing. And get this... the domain was registered 14 days ago by somebody in Egypt. Do I need to quit my SEO Moz membership and hire this guy? 🙂

Keywords and Getting Started with them to the top of the Search Engines
We are an online Saas Based startup. Strongly 70% of our daily users come directly to us since they know us by the url . Now there these 30% who scout for software's like ours online. Get to us by some hook or crook and then maybe end up giving the trial a shot. Our Main site is only of say 5-6 pages. These pages have basic info about our product , pricing and contact etc. What I wish to understand is that when one says" getting those keywords to the top of the engines rankings" who do you mean by these - I presume one means that get the keywords you want to compete for and then push in "Adwords" or better content pages? So If I want to rank well - then my websites should have good content pages you mean? Is that correct-? That means now I have to write good content on those keywords or around those keywords- without that there is no hope to come on good on engines right? Correct me here if I sway away from the actual meaning. Next I wish to have campaigns setup in google adwords keeping in mind those competitive keywords - here again does content on my website play a role? If I have no content and then have google adwords setup does that help? Please advice How long before I add good content pages and expect them to show up in my analytics etc? Thanks

How come the results in Google vary with domains
Hello, How is everyone doing? My question is about the google search engine results page. How come some results have the www. in front of them and some don't. Also what are the SEO implications of having www. in front of your search results vs. not. Is this something to do with canonical? I have included a screen shot so you will see what I mean. One result is www.gearyi.com and the result without the www is ingenexdigital.com. R6GLL.png

How can a site rank higher when you beat them by A LOT on virtually every SEOMOZ factor?
Any insight into what's driving these results would be appreciated. Another site ranks #6 and we rank #22 on a keyword that scores 67% for "Keyword Difficulty", but we score significantly higher than them on almost every ranking factor including having nearly 10 times more backlinks along with higher PA and DA scores, etc. Here is a comparison from the Keyword Difficulty Tool report. Domain Authority Question
So in looking at my first campaign with 3 of my top competitors, I have a domain authority of 65, and my competitors are 31, 43, and 38 and yet all of them outrank me by quite a bit. How can I take this research and make some sense of it to beat them in rankings? Thanks!
