I need to whitelist the Google Analytics servers via IP Address. Any one know their server IPs?
-
Due to a walled garden situation, I need to input all the servers we should have access to via IP Address. We need to track the way our users are browsing within the garden, so I require all the IP addresses that Google Analytics would use. I tried googling it, but was not able to find any definitive answers.
Thank you in advance,
Heather

Indeed, if you want to whitelist a list of Google IPs, we'd be talking about a TON of IPs. To my knowledge, there doesn't seem to be a public list anywhere.
I'm afraid there is no good answer for your question.
Your best bet might be experimenting with an self-hosted Analytics package like Urchin.

Hi,
The reason we require the IP addresses is that we have all internet access completely shut down, so there is no way for our site to send out a call to Google Analytics each time a user loads the page unless the IP address of the google servers have been added to our whitelist, therefore allowing data out from our network to theirs.
I did a bunch of research after initially asking the question back in November and it apparently there are no specific IP ranges for just Google Analytics related servers (they are just part of the overall server farm). We would need to whitelist well over a 100,000 ip addresses based on the ranges I found.
Thank you,
Heather

Yes, I think we need this clarified as there are two things to be considered with Analytics - depending which method you want to use to verify your site you may need Googlebot to have access. There is another option in this case though - you could simply turn off the firewall, verify the site and then turn the firewall back on.
Of course Keri is quite right in that there is no need for crawlers to access the site for Analytics to work once verification has been completed as it uses javascript to send information from the browser.
The other question to be addressed though is "do you want any of the pages behind the firewall to be indexed?". If the answer is no, then the question will have been answered by the previous comments.
If the answer is yes, then you would need to whitelist the entire range to give googlebot(s) ongoing access.

Can you clarify if you're talking about Google Analytics, or about the google bot crawling the site itself?
-
I don't believe this is generally a problem, because traditionally googlebot doesn't use javascript that would trigger GA in the first place.
-
Hi Heather,
I think the closest you would get would be to run a Whois lookup for google.com, which will show you a series of IP address ranges that are associated with the domain.
While it will not give you the specific addresses for Analytics, it will also ensure that you are not blocking any of the various googlebots responsible for crawling, whatever job they do

Hope that helps,
Sha

Can you track two Google Analytics Accounts on one site?
If you have a site that had an old analytics account and then implemented a new one is it possible to run tracking code that records to both accounts without causing your site or data issues? We are doing this so we don't loose data at any point - ideally it wouldn't have been split between the two but making one redundant isn't an option. Ideally we would have merged the data from both accounts and had one - however the research we have done points to this not being a possibility - unless one of you guys knows different? It would be great if anyone has experience on any this.. Thanks

Set Up of Goal Tracking with Google Analytics-$750 a Fair Price????
Greetings Moz Community! My firm operates commercial real estate website that contains 3-4 forms. Each form represents a goals. Google Analytics has been set up for years, but it does not track these form completions/goals properly. My SEO firm has offered to configure Goals on Google Analytics for $750. Is this a fair price? If the set up takes one hour, I am really over paying. But if this is a complex project that may take 7-9 hours the pricing seems OK. Also, the SEO firm will require an additional $750 in the future to set up event tracking. Is this excessive? I might add that my developer will need to add code to my web site. My SEO company has proven reliable and accurate. I can go to sleep at night knowing they are doing a good job. Where as my Argentinian developers really try their best, but perhaps because of the language barrier, they can make mistakes from time to time. I am willing to pay a premium to ensure that the job is done correctly domestically, however I don't appreciate over paying. Is the $750 payment for setting up Google Analytics reasonable assuming the job is done well??? Thanks,

Is it possible to use Google Tag Manager to pass a user’s text input into a form field to Google analytics?
Hey Everyone, I finally figured out how to use auto event tracking with Google Tag Manager, but didn't get the data I wanted. I want to see what users are typing into the search field on my site (the URL structure of my site isn't set up properly to use GA's built-in site search tracking). So, I set up the form submit event tracking in Google Tag Manager and used the following as my event tracking parameters: Category: Search Action: Search Value When I test and look in Google Analytics I just see: "search" and "search value." I wanted to see the text that I searched on my site. Not just the Action and Category of the event.... Is what I'm trying to do even possible? Do I need to set up a different event tracking parameter? Thanks everyone!

How can I use Google Analytics to detect users viewing my website on a TV?
I want to see in Google Analytics whether or not people are viewing my website on a TV, such as with a smart TV or other device connected to their TV. These are the only ways to do this that I have found so far: Operating system: Google TV, Nintendo Wii, Playstation 3, Xbox Browser: Nintendo Browser, Playstation 3 Are there other data points that I can reliably use to segment these users?

How do I manually add transactions to Google Analytics
We are seeing Google Analytic's drop transaction on our site so therefore all the figures are skewed. Is there a way I can manually add transactions to GA to cover the missing one?

Google Analytics and DNS change
Our new alumni application is going be tested at domain uva.imodules.com . We are going to collect traffic data with a Google analytics account number UA-884652-XX. So going to uva.imodules.com/myPage.html would send its data to Google Analytics with that account number. Then when it is ready for production we are going to just change the domain name of the application and switch the DNS over to dardencommunity.darden.virginia.edu . So going to dardencommunity.darden.virginia.edu /myPage.html would send its data to Google Analtics with that SAME account number. Aside from having the testing domain data in the same profile are there any other issues/problems we may run into?

What is s.ytimg.com in google analytics?
My clients GA reports 273 visits from s.ytimg.com. I go to the site, it doesn't exist. I googled it, there were some code with s.ytimg.com in it, but nothing I could understand. Anybody have an idea where this comes from?
