Show all VS show excerpt in a blog post
-
I saw that you recently changed your blog from "show all" to "show an excerpt" and then "read more", could you explain me the reason?
It´s not supossed to be better for the blog readers to see the full posts in the homepage?

Thanks for your answers!
My point is:
I assume that google understands that the homepage of a blog doesn´t duplicate content ,and although he believe it so, the content changes so fast that this is not a big issue. Moreover we have a meta “noindex” in the next pages (domain/page2) to avoid further duplication.
Then you can create the internal linkbuilding architecture with menu items but I think that it´s not really worth with posts in the homepage due to this fast movement of the content.
I agree that you have to optimize the homepage for a broader term and then the posts for a more narrow topics making a great onpage on them, but you can build the homepage with a specific H1 for example in the header of the blog and later for each post have the h1 for the title of the own post.
In this way the onpage of each post will not collide with the onpage of the homepage when the posts are there.
With this in mind, you can show all the content of the posts in the homepage and avoid 1 extra click to your visitors for each post (although you want more Ad impressions as zsolt noted)
What do you think?

Just as First said.
One other reason to do this to have more page downloads if you are doing CPC adwertising, however it is definately not the case here.

I also have set up my blog to "show an excerpt" and then "read more". The reason I do this is for better SEO site structure or site architecture. The idea is to target the main blog for broader keywords like "SEO blog" or "Internet Marketing Tips". When you click on the "read more" or "read full entry" it takes you to a page that is optimized (URL, H1, content, etc.) for what that blog is exactly about.
Example in this URL - http://www.seomoz.org/blog - the first blog is Using Emails to Build Links - Whiteboard Friday.
If you click on the "read full entry" you go to a page that is just about "Using Emails to Build Links"
Now do a Google search for "Using Emails to Build Links"
The interior page of the blog ranks #1 because it is more relevant then the Blog's "home page"

Content Creation For Blog & Ranking Locally
Hey Everyone, I'm trying to rank for specific long tail key words such as: lower back pain treatment exercises lower back surgery options herniated disc exercises and etc. My question is: If I create a blog or article on these key words and integrate content and video within it and on youtube, will these blog posts come up locally when someone searches it within my area?

How many categories should you have within a blog / Wordpress Site for SEO?
Hi Guys I am just wondering whether or not for SEO purposes it is better to have a small number of categories for your blog posts to fit into as opposed to numerous ones. The reason I ask is that I have one site which is fairly new to the search engines - 8 months old which has 7 general categories within the blog for instance "rail contractors", "railway construction" "airport construction" etc I have another site which is 10 years old which has built up 25 different types of categories for instance brand design, brand development, brand management (i guess you could put all these under 1 category "branding"? We've been writing lots of press for both sites... yet the younger site is getting more coverage on Google page 1. Would this be because the blogs / press are more concentrated under a specific category as opposed to being spread thinly throughout the site? Any help would be appreciated. Debs 🙂

We currently have our own wordpress blog on our site using wordpress, is it worth while having others such as blogspot, tumblr etc for seo purposes? Or would I be wasting my time and efforts?

Onsite Blogging Vs Guest Blogging
Hey all! I have a limited amount of time allocated to writing instructional blog posts for my company. When I complete an article I can do whatever I want with it: pitch it as a guest post on an industry blog, or post it on my company's onsite blog. I know there's not a magical solution regarding the percentage of time one should devote to guest blogging v. focusing on the company blog, but I figured I'd throw the conundrum out to the Mozzers anyway. In your opinion, how many of your writing resources should be devoted to guest posts, and how many should be devoted to maintaining the onsite blog? What if our onsite blog isn't currently receiving a lot of traffic? Thanks! Meg

For a consumer facing blog, how often do you recommend updating content to develop good rankings? I understand that it's really dependent upon the niche/competition, but what are some best practices? Content is expensive. Thanks
