One Website - Local + National Ranking
-
If a client (e.g. a winery) wants to rank both nationally and locally, what are some best practices for doing this on one Website?
So the goal is to:
-
Rank nationally for their wines, wine varietals, etc.so they're found by restaurants, distributors, customers (could include national directories, content creation ,etc.)
-
Rank locally for their tasting room and wines for people looking locally or looking at that specific region (this could also include include Google places, local directories, etc.).
I'm wondering if the site would need to be subdivided (or "siloed") where one section is heavily focused on national and another is on regional? Also, for the home page, which focus would be most important (maybe national because it's harder)?
Thanks a for any ideas!
Tom

Hi Tom,
Both Richard & TomCraig are giving you some good ideas here. There is no reason your website can't be optimized for both National & Local SEO and the suggestions being given are ones I would agree with. In addition to this, you should properly optimize the footer site-wide for the local address/addresses using hCard microformatting and make sure your contact page is rich in content and well-optimized. Best of luck!

If we are talking wine, then the location, or in wine speak appellation, is important (Chimney Rock from the Stags Leap area is my favorite)
I would highly optimize your tasting pages for local by providing address of the tastings and having local neighbors link to that page. Preferably an event page, or if that page expires it stays or 301s to another page as to not spill the link juice.
Restaurants are going to search by appellation or wine names or grape names, so I would optimize for this on the product pages.
Home page should be Brand - Appellation - Grapes - Grower
I hope this helps

Tom,
It would make sense to target the home page at the National market, as it will generally require higher Domain Authority to perform well long term! You could have some local pages, with office addressess and relevant local terms and images embedded within it for the wine tasting rooms.
This way, the site would not necessarily be split, but it would be more of a journey for the user through the site. Most visitors would land on the home page, and those interested in local niche's can be funneled through to the sub pages via carefully places links/navigation.
Obviously the on page SEO would have to be considered, perhaps using vcard formats on all addresses, and optimising title and H1 tags, as well as monitoring keyword density, bold, emphasis, etc. (The 'Analyse' tool on the SEOmoz toolbar is good for this!)
Finally, the off page SEO will then have to be considered, such as local directory submissions, DMOZ, BOTW, JoeAnt, Yahoo Directory etc. Then following the top level obvious choices, get links form Blogs, Forums, and articles.
Try running online competitions and offering small online discounts to get lasting links to your site also

About DA of the Website
Hi There, I would like to know why one of my website - https://patnalocalguide.com Domain Authority is not improving. It is not going up and down but it is maintaining its score between 10 since last 5 months. Not going above 10 or below. Why is it so? I'm conitnuously working on creating backlinks for the website and the DR score on Ahref improving but the DA is not. What steps to follow to increase DA? How to find out whats going wrong with our present strategy?

Someone redirected his website to ours
Hi all, I have strange issue as someone redirected website http://bukmachers.pl to ours https://legalnibukmacherzy.pl We don't know exactly what to do with it. I checked backlinks and the website had some links which now redirect to us. I also checked this website on wayback machine and back in 2017 this website had some low quality content but in 2018 they made similar redirection to current one but to different website (our competitor). Can such redirection be harmful for us? Should we do something with this or leave it, as google stop encouraging to disavow low quality links.

Which one is better?
We are creating a new website and got stuck while deciding the URL structure. Our concern is which url is better in terms of SEO i.e. pune.fabogo.com/spa or fabogo.com/pune/spa and why. Also which one would rank faster if someone searches for spas in pune if both pages are same.

Why have my rankings dropped?
I have a client who has just seen his average page rank creep up from around 39 to 34 over about two months, then it appears to have dropped back to position 40+ in the space of a week. I believe he's made a lot of changes to targeted keywords, so I'd like to think it's simply because his old targeted keywords are dropping and new keywords still have to build their rankings. But I'm also worried in case he has over-optimised and might get getting penalised. Any advice on where to start digging?

Dramatic Ranking Changes
Hi, My website is ranked on the 2nd page of Google for the /ncr. Last week suddenly it climbed up to the first page and I let my boss know about it with a quite enthusiasm and happiness 🙂 Then my boss didn't look at it on that day and next day our site was on the second page again and still is. Now I kind of lost reputation in the office, and people start questioning my comments. It wasn't a delusion but I would like to know what it was. No one does any SEO for this 10 years old site, and I've just started an SEO campaign about 1,5 months ago. And I really thought this is it, we are on the first page. But now we are back in to the 2nd page. Is waiting for couple days or weeks to Google to settle right approach for such cases? Or it was just a random bounce or coincidence? Never seen such thing, so I'm quite curious about your opinions or experience if you have.

How to structure articles on a website.
Hi All, Key to a successful website is quality content - so the Gods of Google tell me. Embrace your audience with quality feature rich articles on your products or services, hints and tips, how to, etc. So you build your article page with all the correct criteria; Long Tail Keyword or phrases hitting the URL, heading, 1st sentance, etc. My question is this
Intermediate & Advanced SEO | | Mark_Ch
Let's say you have 30 articles, where would you place the 30 articles for SEO purposes and user experiences. My thought are:
1] on the home page create a column with a clear heading "Useful articles" and populate the column with links to all 30 articles.
or
2] throughout your website create link references to the articles as part of natural information flow.
or
3] Create a banner or impact logo on the all pages to entice your audience to click and land on dedicated "articles page" Thanks Mark0
