Building backlinks
-
Hello all! We regularly create articles for clients and post them (along with links to their Websites) on their blogs. We then promote the blog article across social media and other networks to create backlinks / authority for the articles. My question is whether anyone has had any success with an automated submission tool for the articles that delivers good results to "many" directories, social Websites and so on. At the moment, we do everything manually.
Thanks!

Thanks for the tip about HARO!
Most of our clients are competing for a very specific set of keywords and we are mainly focused on the success (rank / position) of their keywords. We have followed the recommendations of Matt Cuts related to blogs and articles within those blogs containing natural content that points back to the sites. The article marketing is basically just backlinking the blog articles to get them better PR and more traffic.
But your comment creates some good thought about the use of our articles and the energy we put into them.

I strongly recommend signing up to HARO (Help a reporter out). It's a free service that journalists use when they need someone to interview. Keep scanning these each day and you will find relevant news articles that you can comment on and provide insightful comments on. Most of these will link to your site or allow a bio commentary (which Rand talks about using for deeplinking purposes).
This use of your energy to write high value content for high value publication will get you a lot further than article marketing.

My firm does some of the same as you describe - creates content for clients with supporting inbound links for their websites. We also do subsequent social distribution to our clients social venues and to our own.
We experimented with the automated distribution (and still employ it in certain situations), but have found that there isn't nearly as much engagement - which is what really matters as social signals if you're looking for SEO value.
Automated submission frequently misses images or picks the wrong one, totally skips video, and most importantly doesn't allow you to comment on what you're submitting - a key attention getter and response generator.
Yeah, it takes time, but so does good content, which is what it's all about.

Article submission to directories won't get you anywhere significant. This was a popular strategy a few years ago, but it's obvious Google and other engines have significantly devalued article directories.
I would suggest using some of the articles that you're creating for your client as guest contributions on other blogs. Give the article to a relevant blog or content provider and ask for a link in the byline. Not only is this strategy whitehat, it's one that I doubt Google will ever devalue significantly.

How important is the originating country of backlinks?
How important is it that you gain backlinks from websites in the same country you're targeting? Scenario: You have a website targeting users in Japan. How important is it that backlinks to your website are from Japanese websites? Do you need a majority of links from Japanese websites to rank well, or will you do OK with 25% Japanese links and 75% links from other countries? According to Majestic, sites for popular Japanese brands like tsutaya.co.jp and seiyu.co.jp get more links from US sites than from Japanese sites.

Backlink Building to Facebook?
Would there be any benefit to building some backlinks to your social media profiles (i.e. Facebook, Twitter), considering that you're linking to yourself regularly from them anyway? There are a few SEO companies that I would like to try out, but I figure why not try them out on my social media profiles first, before having them do any work directly to my site. Thoughts?

How to Check the Amount of Deep Backlinks?
I'm thinking about checking the amount of deep backlinks on my site because I have a hunch that I don't have enough of them. Now, the problem is that I have no idea what tool (on-line or offline) I need to use. I did some Google research but it did not give me any results.

Outsource Link Building?
Currently we are in the process of creating a new ecommerce website. The site is not live yet, but we have done all of the planning and brainstorming and now are just doing all of the dirty work to get things ready to go live. We are devoting a lot of time on merchandising and developing the site, but currently do not have the resources to put together a good link building campaign in house. Does anyone have any recommendations for outsourcing the link building? The last thing we want is to hire someone that submits to bad neighborhoods and only directories. Is there a good, better, best scenario we should be looking at for pricing, ect? Obviously, like most who are starting a new site, cost is an issue at least until the site gives some sort of sign of life. Also, we are in the Pittsburgh area. We don't need to go local with this, but if there is someone particularly good in the area it would be nice. Thanks in advance.

Backlinks on Facebook
Has anyone seen the benefits of adding backlinks back to their main site on their facebook page? Also, what about uploading a bunch of pictures of your products onto facebook, and on each picture putting the link directly to that specific product? Anyone know if there is any benefit in doing this? Thanks...

Good link building companies
I'm wondering if anyone has had good experiences with any of the link building companies out there. I'm really looking to hear about those companies who go beyond the mundane forum links, blog commenting, bulk directory submission, article directories etc. It's all been done to death. I've used webuildpages.com, they are pricey, but are good at getting high quailty links.
