New site setup questions
-
Working with a law firm with a well-established website that wants to build a separate website for their affiliate title insurance company. Currently, they only mention this company (and list a phone number) on their Real Estate page under Practice Areas.
Although the affiliate company doesn't have a website, their location and phone number are listed in tons of local business directories. I'm currently working on a law firm site that was just built, and the process of getting that one listed in all the directories has been time consuming, so I'm guessing this new site will be much easier, since all I'll have to do is claim ownership of the current listings so I can add a link to the new website (and add additional info to make the profile complete). Would I be correct in assuming this will be a much easier link campaign?
As for new site setup questions, they will obviously get some strong links coming from the existing law firm site. Should they host this new site on a different server so the SE's give more power to the law firm links? Is there really a value to reserving the new domain for 3+ years right off the bat?
Any other suggestions welcome. Thanks.

Thanks for the clarification, C2G,
I'm the Local SEO Associate here in Q&A. Speaking from a purely Local perspective, yes, the job ahead of you for the separate insurance business will be to build a good website with strong geographic hooks in it, following basic local optimization best practices. You will want to linkbuild to the site. Off the site, you will want to claim any existent profiles, make sure there are no violations on any of them, check for duplicates and other problems and fill in the blanks where there are not currently listings but should be.
In my opinion, the absolute easiest tasks are for brand new businesses with no Internet presence at all, because you are starting from scratch and have total control over getting things done right the first time around. I find it a little more challenging doing the sleuthing for an existent business in order to turn up all records that pre-exist for their business to verify their correctness, but this is certainly not impossible.
Regarding reserving the domain name...it has long been considered a good trust signal with SEs to purchase a domain name for at least a few years at a time. Insurance is a dog eat dog world...you want to encourage the client to do all he can to appear trustworthy.

Yes, separate location and phone #.

Hi C2G,
Is the legal business name, street address and local area code phone number for the law firm COMPLETELY distinct from that of the insurance business? I ask this question because Google does not permit the creation of additional Place Pages for specialties within a given business. For example, a company that washes windows cannot have a separate Place Page for their gutter cleaning services. This is only allowed if the 2 things are separate legal business with separate offices and phone numbers. I thought it was important to jump in here and ask this vital question.

There should be value in hosting the new site on a different server because it will have a different IP address. However Google may still determine that you are the owner of both sites because it can look at things like your domain registration information.
The value for registering a domain for 3+ years is probably small. You might as well do it but I wouldn't expect it to help your rankings.

While the firm I currently work with is 2hrs away, there's some overlap with the local directories that the new one is listed under. Found all the current ones using OSE, and for the most part, I usually get a login within a few days of claiming the listing. Claimed the firm I work with's manta and avvo profiles, made the profiles as complete as possible (including soliciting client and peer reviews), and I've seen some traffic start to trickle in. For other local directories, I've found thought-through emails to the webmasters to generate equally thought-out responses. Since this is a new firm and the site was built from scratch, I warned that it would take a while to get traffic without spending money on ads and directory links, but I'm hoping the "submit to respected relevant/local directories" approach pays off in the long run.

I can't tell you if the link building campaign will be easier or not with the supplied information. I guess it depends on how easy it is to claim the listings. Can you log in and do it yourself? If so, does anyone still have the log in credentials? Do the directories seem to be actively maintained? What if you have to email the web master and they don't respond? I would not bank on getting all the directories updated with the correct information.
There may be some benefit to hosting on a different C-block server. I think seohosting.com sort of automates that process for you. I'd be really interested to see how big of a difference it made. For instance, if you set up hosting on the same server for a few months and moved it to a different one.

Will GA Autotrack affect affiliate sites not using autotrack?
I want to add autotrack.js to affiliate quote forms hosted on my site. However, I do not know how it will affect affiliate websites (not associated with my quote forms, but with the same Google Analytics code, that do not use autotrack. I read that "Autotrack is not an official Google Analytics product and does not qualify for GA Premium". Will it harm my affiliates in any way to have autotrack on their quote form but not on their websites? It will have their GA website tracking number.

International Re-sellers Scrapping My Site Should I be Worried?
We are a USA based company and we only sell direct to the US and Canada. However, we have partnered with other companies that are now distributing our products in other places like Australia and Mexico for example. These partners have scrapped our site and have used large chunks of our content to create a website for themselves on their intentional domains (ex.. .au and .mx). How concerned should I be about this? Should I reach out to them and require that they use rel="alternate" hreflang="x" or request the to stop? I have never had to deal with international SEO issues before, so any advice and direction would be appreciated!

KWs for review site: target *product* or *product review*?
Hi there,
Affiliate Marketing | | Ltsmz
Goal: increase organic targeted buyers traffic on a review site.
What I'm working on now: page optimization According to Google's Keyword Tool usually the keyword Product has 50x searches than Product Review. If you haven't tried it before you don't know how weird it sounds inserting too many times the keyword Product Review inside an actual review. Given that my goal is to increase organic targeted buyers traffic on a review site. My questions are: Do you target product or product review? If you target product review does it make any difference if I insert the keyword product review in sidebar, menu, footer, breadcrumbs instead than in the actual body of the review? What is best? Body or surrounding? Getting back-links on a blog is fairly easy. Anybody has any suggestion on how to get targeted backlinks for a review affiliate site or in general how to increase the organic targeted buyers traffic? Thank youD.0 -
Amazon Niche Sites Or Adsense Niche Sites Or CPA Niche Sites for 2000$/month ?
Hello Seo Moz guys, I'm new in SEOMOZ Comunity but I have about 2 years experience in internet marketing. I build 5 websites with google adsense, all of them with about 50 articles, 1k+ backlinks, about 1$-1,5$ cpc, and in average 300 visitors per day. I monetize these sites only with google adsense. ( A LOT OF WORK I can say in manual way, I don't have automate or semi-automate tools for SEO-Link Building ) I didn't make more than 200$ per month and I want to make 2000$/month from online to be really happy. Can anyone suggest me a resource, a course, ANYTHING to improve my earnings? also, I want to change the business model from advertisements to affiliate marketing. I am in clickbank team and amazon asociates from 1 month and I didn't even make more than 30$ yet :)) Please please please, I want a good response, a respectable person to answer me 🙂 Thank you so much!

Amazon Links destroyed my rankings, I removed them, will my site recover?
Hello, Last week I got the glorious idea to put amazon affiliate links on my website. I didn't put a rel=nofollow on them or deindex the pages they were on. Precisely I put some reviews and 10 different amazon links on one page and I put that into my navigation so all inner pages were linking to that page. When Google crawled my page again, I had a 60% traffic drop. 3 days later when I found out what caused this (amazon links) I completely removed the site containing those links and removed all links to that page from my site. Now my rankings are still down, will my site recover from this or is it lost? And how long would you think it'll take?

What are your biggest focuses for Internet Marketing in 2012? New Year's Goal?
We have seen a lot of shifting and movement in the search engines as of late. So I am curious as to what people are setting their sights on for 2012. And perhaps a top 3 would be appreciated. This is Internet Marketing goals, therefore SEO, Social Media, PPC, all count. Link Building? Schema.org? Facebook optimization? And try to be a little more specific like URL rewrites instead of just On-Site SEO.

A subdomain or a new domain?
Hi all Mind it I pick some of your brains for a second opinion on something.... The current situation is thus: I have a fashion website which has over 10,000 free articles and videos, support forums with thousands of posts and user blogs. Also on the site is an affiliate store which is built using datafeedr. The store has about 90,000 products from hundreds of retailers. The goal of the site being a one stop fashion community site where people can get information, chat with other fashion fans and then use the store to search all the fashion sites at once. The problem I am having is despite endless seo work it is proving very difficult to rank the domain for even terms with low competition (We are used to ranking our clients for very competitive terms, often with several hundred million competitors including government websites, bbc, wiki etc). After testing we have come to the conclusion that it's the duplicate content in the store which is hindering our progress. Despite the exact layout of the store being unique, there is no original content on the product pages. There, we have decided to remove the store from the current url and on to it's own site. The question we have is would putting it on store.domain.com still hinder the main site? I recall reading that google are considering the subdomains and root domain as one these days, or if we were to put it on samedomainname.net would google then consider us to be sending users to another website? From a branding point of view I would favour the store.domain.com approach but the .net approach could be easier. Finally, if we were to move the store we have about 45,000 pages indexed which would all return 404's so I guess it would be best to set up 301 redirects from the old url to the new? Many thanks
