Learning link building

I want to learn from one of the best how to do real link building. I currently outsource this and just aren't sure if they're that good or not. Can you please let me know if Rand is doing any training or presentations on this in L.A or California this year? And if not him maybe someone else you can recommend who's good.

Be careful with outsourcing link building, but as far as it goes find websites or blogs that more or less on the same keyword. Try to negotiate with them about the link, maybe they will want to write about some of your products for free just because they like it. Check out the link I got.

Completely seriously, spend time exploring SEOmoz.org. Almost everything you can / should know about link building is available somewhere on the site.
I spend a lot time following people/sites on link building and IMHO there really isn't a clearly better resource.

Is there any link building value to design showcase websites?
I am interested to hear people's opinions on this. We are launching a microsite that is for branding purposes only, no real SEO strategy beyond optimizing for branded terms on it. However the design of the site is strong in my opinion. I think it could get picked up by "sites of the day" websites, showcases, galleries, etc. Would there be SEO benefit of in being featured on those sites since they tend to be curated lists of only the best sites and therefore editorial links? Or is there danger of those not being seen as quality links that could get you into trouble?

Link building via Rafflecopter
I received an invite from a company to enter a contest for a chance to win a prize. The contest is run by Rafflecopter. Rafflecopter looks interesting because you can place the contest anywhere including social sites and your own website. Contestants can increase the chances of winning in various ways such as an FB like, tweet, etc. The largest number of points (for this particular contest) are awarded for linking from your website to their website. Given that the contestant must add the link to their website and the sponsoring company can not control whether they use nofollow, couldn't this contest approach to link building cause problems for SEO? If the contest included instructions to copy and paste the html with a nofollow, that would seem like a better solution, but the only guidance given was to link to their home page. Your thoughts? Link Building & Moz metrices
I am just starting up so no flaming please. Okay so i was given a project and i was amused to see a lot of backlinks to the website with viagra pills title. This is why i assume the domain authority is very low. I tried asking a few website owners to drop the links but they said its a lot of manual work they wont do it(that was shocking) So what next? Would building authority links in any domains help me in this case?

Clarification needed regarding link building
We are working on a SEO project for a client with a bilingual site. We have already started with the link building task for the English domain. However, for the Arabic domain the URLs for the inner pages are not yet finalized and it would take around 2 months to do so. I would like to know whether we could start with link building for the main Arabic domain although the inner pages URLs are not yet finalized?

Local Search Citation Building - 2 links on 1 page?
I have the opportunity to display information about a business on a handfull of high PR web pages (with relevant content, not directory listings). I'd like to use these listings to build local search citations and homepage authority/rank for chosen anchortext. The format allows name, address, phone number, email & url plus a description of the business (short paragraph that can contain a link) - see below. Should I link from the homepage url and body anchor text? Will search engines ignore the anchor text used in the 2nd link?
