Where to host my blog
-
If I cannot have my blog on my main site, what is the second best option? It is currently on Blogger, but I am wondering if it would be worth it to move it to blog.mainsite.com.
Thanks!

I would be moving my hosting.... or getting a new CMS that allows my blog to run in a subfolder.

If you can't have it on your www subdomain then the next best thing is to have it on a blog.mainsite.com or other subdomain of your main site. This is the SEO perspective, however Loren Strand makes a lot of good points about other considerations for hosting above.
However, the best option for SEO is to host it in a subfolder, like www.mydomain.com/blog. This way your blog posts contribute to your domain rank for your main website. Is this technically not possible on your site, or some other reason you're not doing this?

The subdomain choice is yours. blog.[domain] is common. If you are asking what hosting service to use, it depends on your requirements. For example, shared, low-cost hosting at hostgator.com may be a fine place to start.
Let's say that site performance is important due to the visitor experience you desire to deliver and you have a lot of traffic. Shared hosting is probably a poor choice. Pay more for a hosting plan that gives your blog dedicated resources.
You may require root access to tweak certain settings. Some hosts offer at a good price, others do not.
If you are using specific software (Wordpress, etc) then maybe a host that has experience with the install and support of that platform?
Customer service is one of my highest considerations in hosting. A low cost never outweighs down-time or slow/lousy/rude customer support practices. Read customer reviews for positive/negative experiences. Try out customer service line yourself.
Last, think about backup and recovery of your site. Some hosts help really well with backups and ports of your blog elsewhere. It's so hard when I hear stories of blogs created at cheaper hosts only to lose very valuable content because there was an implied (but never tested) backup and recovery plan.
Let us know what you choose and why.

In the interests of not starting a subdomain vs subfolder flamewar, I'm going to say: it depends.
Same branding as the rest of your site? Want to treat is as part of the whole? Go with a subfolder.
Different brand? Different style? Different purpose? subdomain.

Duplicate Page Titles For Paginated Topics In Blog
Hello, I've just run a site audit and it has come up with a duplicate title tag issue for the topics section of our blog. For example it is flagging that the following have the same page title. https://blog.companyname.com/topic/topic-name https://blog.companyname.com/topic/topic-name/page/2 How significant is this as an SEO issue and what are the ways we can go about fixing this? I look forward to any suggestions and guidance that can be provided. Thanks, John

Questions About The Right Hosting
Hi All, I have a few questions about the right type of hosting that I should be using. I understand that many people say we should be using the best hosting that we can afford. However, when I have a website with just 650 pages / posts is it really worth worrying too much about where I am hosting. I am UK based so at the moment I am using a UK host along with a CDN. I have a unique IP address and on a server that has a limited amount of websites on it. The main question is there really any need to be looking at anything else. The truth is I have used cloud hosting before and the website loaded slower around the world with that than it does with my current setup. Thanks

Do 301s still work after hosting is discontinued?
I am in the process of phasing out a website that has been acquired by another company. Its web pages are being 301 redirected to their counterparts on the website of the company that has acquired them. How long should I maintain the hosting of the phased out website? Technically, do 301s still work after the hosting has been discontinued? Thanks, Caro

Moving Blog Question
Site A is my primary site. I created a blog on site B and wrote good content and gave links back to site A. I think this is causing a penalty to occur. I no longer want to update site B and want to move the entire blog and it's content to sitea.com/blog. Is this a good idea or should I just start a fresh/new sitea/blog and just remove the links from site B to site A?

How to redirect my .com/blog to my server folder /blog ?
Hello SEO Moz ! Always hard to post something serious for the 04.01 but anyway let's try ! I'm releasing Joomla websites website.com, website.com/fr, website.com/es and so on. Usually i have the following folders on my server [ROOT]/com [ROOT]/com/fr [ROOT]/com/es However I would like to get the following now (for back up and security purpose). [ROOT]/com [ROOT]/es [ROOT]/fr So now what can I do (I gues .htaccess) to open the folder [ROOT]/es when people clic on website.com/es ? It sounds stupid but I really don't know. I found this on internet but did not answer my needs. .htaccess RewriteEngine On

Using a Feedburner RSS link in your blog's header tag
It was suggested in Quick Sprout's Advanced SEO guide that it's good form to place your Feedburner RSS link into the header tag of your blog. Anyone know if this needs to be done for every page header of the blog, or just the home/main/index page? Thanks

Blogs are best when hosted on domain, subdomain, or...?
I’ve heard the it is a best practice to host your blog within your site. I’ve also heard it’s best to put it on a subdomain. What do you believe is the best home for your blog and why?
