External link
-
Hi guys!
You must get many questions about external links... This is mine.
If I get an external link with good authority ranking in google, but it is not relevant to the site (for example, my site is about marquees, but we could get links from schools, which are our main clients, or any type of client) Does that affect negatively somehow to the rankings? or there is good value on it even is not related?
Thanks!
Adriana

This reply was very useful, because it tells me that even if it does not help me with a particular keyword, it helps us with the domain authority. They are legitimate business... So, it should be fine...

Thanks!. There will not be any mass link manipulation, I believe that if we create a system with the clients we already have encouraging them to link us if they are happy with the result, could bring good results. And the amount of links pointing at us will increase. then, I will not need to chase links or anything, I believe that SEO should be handled inside the company, and should be somehow part of the marketing strategy. If we could achieve that, I believe time will increase our authority.

Thank you for your reply. It is something we are planning to do, but because the variety of clients is so wide (banks or clubs or schools) I got a little concerned about how to relate them to what we do. But thanks!

Getting links from seemingly unrelated businesses will not negatively affect your ranking unless as mentioned below you suddenly gain a lot of links from dubious sources.
There is value in an authorative link even if it isn't relevant so i would recommend that you ask the schools that are your clients if they can link to your site. As well as the SEO value, someone may see it who needs a marquee for their organisation or event.

Any link will help relevant or not, just on a different level.
Note: If you start making "clever schemes" and mass link manipulation you may get in trouble if reviewed by Google.

From the way you've described your situation, yes, there is good value in the links you are getting.
What you want to be concerned about isn't one particular site linking to you and whether they are or are not related to your product / service. What you want to be concerned about is low quality sites that are highly associated with dubious content such as spamming, link buying and selling, cloaking, keyword stuffing, porn, gambling, etc. It is highly unlikely your clients are involved in any of these activities.
All that being said, Google understands site owners have limited control over who links to them. If you have an opportunity to get a link from a high quality site, count yourself lucky. Even more so if the link is truly authentic and is placed within copy that is related to what you do. In fact, I would go so far as to recommend you start asking your clients for a link to your site if they are happy with your service.

Does an external link to an image file on my site help my SEO?
I found a few websites that are displaying images from my site. Curiously, they have also linked these images to the source image file on my website. I found these because Moz showed these sites in my list of backlinks. I assume that means it impacts my Domain Authority. But does this actually help me in search engines since it's not linking to a page on my site?

Disavow links from legit sites but have spammy link profiles?
I'm currently doing a backlink audit for our site with a LOT of backlinks. Some of the linking sites are legitimate business websites in our industry who have linked to us for a totally legitimate reason (we have good content!). However, these businesses themselves have a spammy backlink profile—that is, the only sites linking to that site are obvious link farm sites. Here is an illustration: spammyseolinks.com; payforseo.xyz; blackhat.ru ==all link to==> legitbusiness.com ==links to==> mysite.com Should I disavow this backlink? I guess it's not really giving me much SEO worth since it surely been branded a spammy junk domain, but then again, it's a real website that we've earned a link from because we're doing stuff the right way. Is it hurting or helping me?

Google Link Disavow and sites with extremely heavy but poor link metrics
Need help/opinions from the SEO's out there. I am working with a site that in the past hired an SEO company out of India. Over the course of their time together, this company submitted the clients url to tens of thousands of link exchanges and directories. Around the time of Penguin, the owners told me their inquiries dried up. Literally that same week they had a new website launched (designed by a local competitor) that really butchered the site. They were convinced the reduction in traffic/inquiries was due to the new site but I am convinced otherwise (suspect Penguin). Not only does the site need to be re-structured but their link portfolio needs to be diversified. Now on the plus side, the company caters and sponsors a number of events that earns them organic, relevant links. These are overshadowed by the tons of poor, irrelevant ones though. I read a few posts recently on the Google Link Disavow tool and to proceed slowly due to the unknown nature surrounding it. I have a good idea of what links are problematic and which ones are well served. However, the number of problematic links in my estimation is quite high (thousands). I am very hesitant to dive into Google Disavow and submit such a large number of requests. What are your thoughts? How would you proceed?

How to beat This with Links?
Hello, So i am trying to beat this website gujratdetectives.com/ with a new website which has no backlinks as of now.
Link Building | | hardik_hrc
Now, I checked in open explorer that this site has many moderate level links. No high authority links but the problem is these links they all have title as the search keyword "detective in Gujarat" so maybe this is why this site rests on the top of this search keyword. So if building authority links into a different domain(Not detective related) with very high PR but WITHOUT title of relevancy. Anchor text would be the keyword but not the title of page. So the question is will those authority sites beat this gujratdetectives.com/ ???0 -
Do No follow links from social media platforms transfer authority or value when they link to third party websites?
With social media playing a bigger role in SEO (since the Panda, Penguin updates etc) and how search engines rank sites now, does anybody know why Twitter for instance has 'no follow' when I check my client's websites under 'inbound links' on Open Site Explorer?

Does this provide any SEO value to the receiving site? Has anyone experienced problems doing this?
