Good start to campaign but suddenly getting nowhere fast

As an amatuer SEO I was really please with the results when I optimised my pages and starting link building. I've managed to get myself to the bottom of page one for almost all my main keywords over a 6 month period. However since then I've been building links for the last couple of months and have seen very little movement in my SERPS positions at all! I expected it to be harder on page one but not this hard! According to SEO Moz campaign tools my on page results are all A so I dont think I can optimise any more. I'm beginning to think it's not links I need and I'm missing something like not enough social media mentions etc however many of my competitors on page one don't appear to engage with social media much at all.
I'm at a loss really as to wether to just keep building links through guest posts, articles, forums, directories or try a different approach. i wonder if some of you more experienced SEO's could take a look and offer any ideas. My site is http://www.musicliveuk.com and I'm trying to rank for
Entertainment Agency
Entertainment Agencies
Wedding Band
Wedding Singer
Function Band
Cover Band
(I have optimised pages for each of these keywords in the footer)
I've also noticed that a lot of my competitors have links on lots of blogs that I can't seem to get links on. I would normally contact them and offer to guest post but I can find any contact details. I'm beginning to think my competitors have set these sites up as well for link building purposes. Is that ethical?
Please help!

I looked at the site for a couple of minutes, but there are a few more on page tweaks that could be done, have a look here: http://gtmetrix.com/reports/www.musicliveuk.com/WbGhsMXk
Also, your site is hosted in Germany, it would help if it was hosted in the UK.

Thanks for the detailed reply. What you're saying makes sense. I made a mistake in the early days of the site building links for all keywords to the home page and then realised I needed dedicated pages for each keyword which I'm guessing is why the home page has good page authority and the others lack. Since then I've built links to the other optimised pages but when I look on OSE at the url http://www.musicliveuk.com/home/cover-band for example it says linking root domains 1 and 202 links. All the links listed are pages from my site. Why aren't I seeing external links from my link building efforts?
I obviously need to improve the page authorities as I'm some way off having the same as the top results and I guess the only way to do this is through links?
Some interesting ideas about interviewing influential bloggers. I hadn't thought of that and it seems obvious now!

Regarding this:
"I've also noticed that a lot of my competitors have links on lots of blogs that I can't seem to get links on. I would normally contact them and offer to guest post but I can find any contact details. I'm beginning to think my competitors have set these sites up as well for link building purposes. Is that ethical?"
Is it ethical? That's the opening question to a long and drawn out debate. It's certainly a bit spammy, depending on how crappy the content is on the blog. It's hard for me to tell you not to do that, because it's obviously working for them, but before you do, please try the "create awesome content and promote it" option first.
How about creating "the UK guide to hiring a wedding band" or something like that? Should be worth a good number of links from all of the bridal/wedding blogs in the UK if you make it a darn good piece of content. Or interview the bloggers at the 20 biggest bridal/wedding blogs and see what the most popular wedding music trends are or some BS like that. They'll often link back to your article after it's published because you asked them to contribute.
Please try that stuff before you start building crappy link networks.

Those are pretty broad terms, but according to the Keyword Difficulty tool you're doing well on a couple of them. I'll take a look at a few for you, using the KD tool set on "United Kingdom" & Google:
wedding singer:
You're doing remarkably well on this keyword considering the relatively low Page Authority and # of links to http://www.musicliveuk.com/home/wedding-singer. You're probably only doing that well in the first place due to your on-page optimization efforts. If you want that one to perform better, it'll need more links.
cover bands:
I show you at #6. Links to the cover bands page will also help on this one, though this page isn't lacking as much as the wedding singer page.
entertainment agency:
I show you at #10. This one is trickier because your PA/DA is in the middle of the pack. I would bet that you're getting beat because the people ranking highest have "entertainment agency" in their name, which means that a high percentage of their links will feature "entertainment agency" in the anchor text. It's going to be difficult for you to duplicate that, but I'm guessing that more exact anchor-text links here will be the only way for you to compete on this term.

While I'm looking at your site, please take a look at what GigMasters is doing in the US. They've dominated the market for hiring bands and entertainers for weddings and parties, and they have a very user-friendly site. If they move over to the UK, you're going to have a hard time competing because of how great their user interface is. If I were the owner of your site, I'd be thinking about how I could copy their format in the UK before they move in and do it. So, work on making it easier for people to find bands to hire. Currently it is difficult to navigate and find that content.

Getting a sitewide links from one domain as oppsed to few links from certain pages, a good, bad or horrible idea?
Hello, I have a website that is performing really well in Google for country specific Real Estate Website. I have had this site for just about 2 years and I have 4600+ indexed pages, and about 50 of my main keywords appear in top 10 results on Google. I have now started a second site with a brand new domain, its only about 2 months old. This one is a Travel website and again its country specific (same country that real estate website is performing well in) and since its still building up the content and has barely a couple of backlinks, I am thinking of adding a linkback to it from my Real Estate Site. Is it a good idea to add a site wide link back from header section of the real estate website to my travel website? Both sites has same country and most of the keywords in both relate to this country. Or will I be better off adding a few text links from few pages with best Page Authority? Or - do you suggest that I do not link the two at all? Both sites are hosted on different servers, with different IP's and one is on windows server created in asp.net while another is a magento site. Any advidce / insight will be much appreciated and thank you in advance.

How do i determine if an SEO person i hired is good and should continue on
I know SEO is important and i am hiring an SEO person, as well as company. however, they both seem to contradict each other and so im lost as to know who is good and bad. what should i look for in their work report, and what questions should i ask. Background: i have tried to read alot (100+ articles) on the new panda and penguin so at least i know what people are talking about without being clueless. So my site got hit recently with the updates and got penalised, and i think that is predominantly because of the backlink profiles, before being built too much around keywords. so my understanding is that backlinking now should be natural, diverse (many alt tags instead of a few), concentrate on branding and less on keywords. The person: she believes in branding, and acknowledge the problem with my previous backlink profile. so now she said the backlink ratio should be around 40-50% based on the brand. so she has been doing alot of backlinks wtih alt tags for my website url, name, as well as my name. She said once that ratio is close to that target of 40-50% i should see a jump in ranking, which woudl be in around a month of work. but here is my concern 1 - the other company said she is spamming, which kinda scarred me already 2 - while in principle, what she has said is backed up by my reading materials, it seems she only concentrate on three alt texts so far, my url, my business name, and my name. i thought they need to be diversified 3 - the links seem to come from alot of places. she said it does not need to be high quality now as we just need to get that ratio/profile correct, and then we can concentrate on the high quality links later. she is doing around 40 links per day. which apparently take 8 hours per day. 4 - i guess i worry that that if all these new links suddenly become spams later, does that mean i woudl need to either build more links to offset the more spam links, or have to spend more time removing bad links Please advise. is she performing spamming. how do i check her links/works. is there a tool. is it wise to build more links, or is it better to identify previous bad links and remove them? Thank you for your help.

I am getting links on people's wordpress blogs but are not showing up on the just discovered tool. Is it true that wordpress links are no-follow links that do give off any link-juice?
A blogger told me that "wordpress.com does not allow blogs to show advertisements or use links to sites that sell merchandise of any kind" is this true? Am i wasting my outreach time trying to get links from wordpress operated blogs?

Get a new domain?
Hey, I have a niche website which ranked quite good in the beginning (especially image search). I published new posts every other day and also new links. Since around six months this site doesnt rank at all anymore (page 5) and I'm not sure if I should get a new domain, republish the articles and 301 all links. Would that make sense or is it better to start a new site from scratch? Thanks!

Do you think it's a good idea to try to find synergy between clients for blog posts/citations/links, or should you keep clients away from each other?
Say you have for example three (in this case) clients, and: Client A sells red widgets Client B is a doctor Client C sellls blue widgets With some research, you find that: Red widgets (A) can make the process of blue widget creation (C) even more effective. Red widgets (A) can protect you from harmful things that doctors (B) are qualified to recommend that you stay away from. Furthermore, there are things that doctors (B) recommend that you do in order to maximize the benefits of red widgets (A) Blue widgets (C) carry with them certain potential health risks, which according to doctors (B) can be minimized using the following means Sometimes blue widgets (C) can be used to effectively repair red widget (A) factories ...and so forth. Sure you're really writing these articles to generate links and exchange authority, and frankly you started with "how can I find synergy between these clients?" rather than a with a great article subject that needed a citation which luckily happened to be another client, but the citations are legitimate and the clients are qualified to speak on the subjects where their expertise and interests overlap. Would you consider going ahead with this? Does anyone have any experience doing it? I could see potential pitfalls if clients were to interact with each other, but keeping yourself as the intermediary might well work and overall it seems like a decent way to grab low-hanging fruit as they say. What do you guys think?
