Linking within Secondary Site
-
So we've got a secondary site that has quite a bit of authority & links that used to have all types of info on parasailing. All those pages are gone and homepage is now a salespage (management decision, not mine)
Our main site sells a wide range of tours and activities and does have a page for parasailing. The secondary site uses the same template/navigation as our main site (again, not my decision).
Do you think that's an effective way to send link juice to our main site? The secondary site has some pretty awesome high authority sites linking to it.
I've considered 301'ing the whole site to our main site but it's got a really solid domain name and I'd like to take up 2 SERP listings (main and secondary site)
Is there a better way to have double listings but still send a good amount of link juice?

This is such a nuanced question that depends on so many different factors, I fear I can't give you a complete answer. But I can tell you some of the questions I'm asking in my head.
-What happened to the old para-sailing pages on Site B? Do they redirect to the salespage/homepage? Does the site still rank for and receive traffic for para-saling? What did those old pages rank for?
-Are you trying to rank the new site for para-sailing queries? If so, it might seem appropriate to redirect the old para-sailing pages to the next most relevant landing page. This is what Google would prefer, anyway.
-Do you take up 2 SERP positions now?
That's off the top of my head. Would probably have some more questions if I saw the site and knew more about the particular queries.

Google is really against your last comment (stacking sites in the serps).
I would 301 the homepage and then every other page on that 2nd site to other pages on your 1st site. Not just 301 the homepage to the homepage.

Two sites into one
I have two sites owned by one client, he wants to merge them into one keeping one website, but which one? I've been using the Moz Pro to look at the stats for both sites; page authority, inbound links etc, but they're both fairly close in results. The client wants to know what would be the best course to take with these two sites, what site should he keep and which should he merge? Any advice?

Do contextual links hold more weight?
Hi, Say you have an article, does a link in the content itself hold more weight then including it in say the byline? I have read so many times a link higher up the page, contextual has much more benefit than a link way below the fold separated from the main content within a byline. Thoughts?

Navigation causing too many links
If I add pages to my site to cover major cities/towns/counties in the UK where I offer wedding bands and link them from the navigation using drop down menus/categories ( I believe this is the best option to allow users to find what they are looking for) I get a'too many links on page' flag. How can I best get around this problem?

Canonical links
My website is relatively new, January. We climbed steadily to 6th for our search term then overnight rocketed to 1st. This only lasted a week and have been stuck at 9th ever since. When I use the SEO Moz tools our site should theoretically be top...I only joined today btw. Anyway in Google webmaster tools I noticed it said I had duplicate title tags, when I checked to see what the pages were- it was my home page! Google also seems to have cached two versions of our homepage, the root domain and the Default.aspx page. Now I have fixed this canonical linking issue today (using canonical link tag and 301s) so time will tell but has anyone got any first hand experience of this issue? Was it a big factor? Thanks!

Do external links drain PageRank?
Example: A page has 100 links, 90 internal links and 10 external links. The page has a Google internal PR of 1000. The question is: Is the pagerank that flows to the internal links being calculated taking into account all links on the page (internal + external) or only the 90 internal links? E.g. is the PR that flows to the internal links 1000/100 or 1000/90? Are links to external sites "votes" that do not affect the internal PR flow? Disclaimer: I understand that the maths behind the PR algo are more complex. This simplified example only serves to explain my question.
