Should I delete old or unrelevant posts in my blog? (Panda Update question)
-
I have a website where I post articles every few weeks.. Should I remove the outdated and unrevelant posts? I fear that google might punish my website in the Panda update.

EGOL is right on. I would also think about what %age of your blog posts have search engine traffic ? Look at last 30/60/90 days maybe ? Is there any seasonal content ? Factor all those things and then decide. In a lot of cases, it makes sense to update them. Sometimes delete them and redirect them to an updated/newer article. It might also sometimes make sense to merge multiple similar topic articles.
Think from a user's perspective and not SE perspective and you'll be good as long as you are thinking about SEO best-practices, which it sounds like you are.
-
Consider these things.....
-- Do those posts pull traffic from search or other websites?
-- Can you do anything valuable with that traffic?
-- Do those pages have any external links?
If your answer is "no" to all of these questions then simply delete them?
If your answer is "yes" to some then you must decide to keep, delete, redirect or improve.
I have a blog that gets lots of temporary content and I place it in folders such as mysite.com/blog/2012/02/
Those dated folders make it easy for me to redirect entire folders when I retire content - and I retire over a thousand posts per year.
=================
Now, here is a little complexity... maybe you should not be indexing these posts if they are trivial, duplicate content or have some other problem that Panda might be picky about.

Where to promote a blog post?
I want to promote a blog post with the littlest invested time. It's not something I need to get ranked high. Just wondering what is the most efficient method or service to broadcast it out there with at least some chance of driving some traffic (other than "just let Google index it") 😉

I work on a uk decorating website with five of our own bloggers all of which reside on the home page of the website on their own separete blogging urls as sub domains - is this a good idea or would google not like this from an seo point of view?
Should blogs that are part of an overall content site be on separate sites and link in or is it ok to promote them as content on the home page of the site and take users off to their own url to view the site. Is this good practise for seo?

Blog Benefits
I read a very interesting answer by Andy Solo to a previous question in which he replied: "Use your blog to create some Tips & How-To's, optimize those blog entries for the long tail keywords and soon enough your blog will be the gateway into your website. Learn how to target longl-tail keyword searches and how to analyze keyword competition to find the right niche blog posts to create". With my own company site, www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk which has a long-standing blog attached, www.nile-cruises-4u.co.uk/blog I always felt that the blog content greatly aided our top positions in Google.co.uk. However, over the last 12 months we have slipped right down page one and I wondered if the blog is still helping our site or if the emphasis/value has switched and Google is looking at a lot of other factors where we score badly? Related posts Wordpress plugin
Hi, I was wondering what Wordpress plugin you are using to add related posts to your blog posts. I would need one that allows you to pick the related posts manually and doesn't break the on-page SEO. Thank you! George
