Blog on a separate domain
-
We want to set up a blog to discuss our industry. Is it better to set-up the blog on a domain that we buy and then link to it from our website or set-up a blog on a posterous account or something with a link?
-
I was thinking of setting up our blog as website.com/blog, however our web support advises against it as they said using wordpress pluginscould cause security holes, Im not sure what to do?

I agree with Marko & Matt. Just do domain.com/blog or janesmithphotography.com/blog It makes perfect sense to do it that way. Even sub-domains are treated as separate domains, so blog.janesmithphotography.com won't be as good as if you do janesmithphotography.com/blog.

It's generally recommended to have your blog on your own domain, you can do this easily by installing WordPress into a "/blog" directory on your website, which would result in something like this...
-
Photographers (my industry) are often setting up a blog at theirdomainblog.com
So if their name is Jane Smith, their site would be www.janesmithphotography.com and their blog would be on janesmithblog.com
What I've seen from the SEO side of this is it works well for them to have janesmithphotography as their main site and then another domain as their blog site. However, we do find they don't easily rank for long tail keywords very quickly. All that "domain juice" they would get from links on sites many webmasters put their link on the janesmithphotography domain and not on the blog.
So for my money (and business), I'd rather have a blog on a /blog or blog.domain.com than on its own domain.
To the posterous question - I would never SEO another company's domain. I tell all of my blogger.com clients they need to move to their own domain or they need to hire someone who wants to do SEO for Google. So I would HIGHLY recommend against that.

No URL for my blog?!!!
I use a website provider for my website. Sadly, although it has an integrated blog, the blog posts title does not get included in the URL. So now, with my limited knowledge of SEO I'm wondering if blogging is still worth it? Any thoughts Greatly appreciated! 🙂

Country domain but multi-language
Hi all, We are a fullservice internet firm working from the Netherlands. Because of that we are working on a .nl domain. All related domains internationally are taken. Currently on Microdesign.nl we only write dutch, but we have a lot of Magento and e-commerce knowledge which is related to all customers, we also get some international attention for our extensions, themes and content. The thing is, what to do when i want to maintain more languages. (dutch and english). Would microdesign.nl/en or en.microdesign.nl rank internationally. or should i keep microdesign.nl due to the current ranking and get a .com kind of domain working with hreflang? many thanks in your insights.

Should i 301 redirect my blog to the respective site or just 404 all the blog pages?
Hi guys, We plan to close down our blog, which is a subdomain to our anchor site. I need advice on how to keep the link juice and its SEO value. Is it better to 301 redirect the blog to the homepage of our site, or just 404 all the pages of the blog? Thanks

Is having two blogs bad?
I'm under the impression we should only have one blog, but the company I work for wants to have our original blogger site AND link it to a blog on our website. We're basically just duplicating content, which I know to be bad. Is there any benefit to using both? If not, (which I'm guessing there isn't) which one should we keep? Does google prefer we use blogger, instead of putting it on our company site? Do the links we get from blogger help for SEO more than just putting it on our site? Any advice would be appreciated. P.S. The Blogger account has been around longer, but it doesn't have substantial traffic. It gets about 200 pages vies a month, right now. However, the one on the website gets far less than that.

Benefits put my blog inside website or outside the website
Hi everyone, I wonder if you can provide some information regarding inside or outside blogs benefits. One of us thinks that the blog should be within our website URL. And the other one thinks that it should be a separate url. I believe an outside blog will provide SEO benefits but we hope that you will provide us your thoughts on this issue? Thanks for all of your help. Antonio

Blog for SEO: embedded in the site or separate
Hello, For both ecommerce and sites that sell services, I've seen a lot of people recommending a blog for SEO. Should this blog be inside or separate from the main website for the most results? I can see how adding one to a site would create more unique content and an opportunity for link bait, but perhaps there is a reason to have a blog separate from the main site Thank you.

Duplicate Content on WordPress Blogs?
We are getting ready to add a WordPress blog to our established website. Our plans are to place it in a subfolder on our website to maximize rank. My question is...Do we need to utilize a Meta Robots WordPress plugin by Yoast or similar so that noindex, follow robots meta tags will prevent search engine indexing of search result pages, subpages and category archives? We want to avoid the dreaded Duplicate Content Error and penalty. Any other great SEO WordPress plugins? Thank you for your time. Brian
