Guest Blogging Tips
-
I'm just getting started in guest blogging, and had an idea I wanted to run past the SEOmoz community.
I've been told that when guest blogging, it's only worthwhile to post one guest post per domain (if your intention is purely backlinks, which mine is). But I was wondering if it might be more effective to try and place a series of 4 or 5 related posts, and try to get the blog owner to link from one to the other (Click here for Part II of this series).
Wouldn't all that internal linking give the pages with my bio links on them that much more authority?

While it surely up to you, but with guest posting, I'd rather focus on the quality of the blogs than the number of unique ones. That said, recurring guest articles at SEOmoz or Mashable will work much better than dozens of unique guest posts on low-quality blogs.
That doesn't mean you should focus only on huge established blogs.
Here's what I do:
- Identify several large blogs in my niche and guest post their at least once a month
- At the same time, be in the constant search of new promising blogs and guest post there as well (to discover new communities and build more links)
Looks like my answer here is: do both

Your guest posting strategy depends on what your goals are. If you're just looking to accumulate links, you're much better off distributing across a range of websites. You'll get better ip diversification, a higher number of linking root domains, and each link will count fully since it's from a unique source. The interlinking of posts that you propose would have a very negligible impact on the flow of authority through the sites you post on.
If your goal is to develop a position of thought leadership or to develop a following from the audience of the sites you're guest posting on, multiple posts is the correct strategy. This way, you get seen by the same audience over and over again. If they like what you write, they'll be much more likely to follow you / pursue your content on other sites. It's basically an exercise in brand awareness -- you need the same people to see your message repeatedly in order to have any impact.
Hope that helps!

Blog posts and 3rd hierarchy pages weigh same as per Google?
Our blogs.website.com has been a sub-directory since 2 years as website.com/blog. Now we have blog posts with URLs website.com/blog/blog-post-1. This blog is located at different place technically, away from website. Now my doubt is whether the blog-posts have equal weightage at Google just like other 3rd hierarchy level pages of website like website.com/page1/topic2. Thanks

Where Does Blogging Fit Into SEO
I read an article yesterday that said blogging comes under the heading of social media, which is at the top of the so called SEO pyramid. I have taken this to mean less time should be spent in social media compared to other areas of SEO. Yet content creation was at the bottom of the pyramid (more time allocation here). Isn't blogging part of content creation? I would have thought there is a limit to what can be done for service/product & landing pages. Whereas blogs are a great way to produce more unique content for a website. Any clarification would be appreciated. Thanks - Christina

SEO friendly blog.
i've read somewhere that if you list too many links/articles on one page, google doesn't crawl all of them. In fact, Google will only crawl up to 100 links/articles or so. Is that true? If so, how do I go about creating a page or blog that will be SEO friendly and capable of being completely crawled by google?

So, what is the latest linking strategies and the best practices for the new year? I'm looking to start a clean, fresh website and would love to implement a great new strategy or tactics that really work with the right amount of effort. Is there a guide available? Preferably from website on-page optimization all the way to a regular routine of what to do. I know it won't be easy, but that's why I love the ever changing world of SEO!

Are there any SEO Tips before killing a website?
Hey guys, My company acquired another company, and after a couple of months we decided to completely kill their website. I'm not finding any info about SEO best practices for this type of situation. From the "switching domains" and "new sites" articles and blog posts I can extrapolate that I should: 301 redirect their home page to ours Look at specific pages with good authority that relate to our pages and 301 them. Look at the strongest backlinks to their site and try to change them to point to our site. Create a 404 page for the rest of their webpages that tells them that we acquired the company (hopefully with a main menu and search bar) Any other suggestions?

Blog posts, blog archives and duplication
Just reviewed a blog integrated with my website, and have noticed duplicate content - the blog homepage includes blogpost summaries (not a major issue as now set up so only put in opening paragraphy then anchor text to full blog post). Then that's a full blog blog post if you click for more - then that's carbon copied over in the archive. So one near exact duplicate. Is this something worth taking action on with nocrawl tags, etc., on archive duplicates of blog posts, or shouldn't I be to hung-up on this? I'm a scientist by training, so tend to go further and further once I get going...
