Help With Analytics Data
-
Hello,
I'm seeing the following Analytics data for some of my keywords:
Multiple Visits
Pages/Visit: 1
Avg Visit Duration: 00:00
% New Visits: 100%
Bounce Rate: 100%
The data is the same on all "affected keywords".
What is going on and how do I fix it?
Thanks for the help!

I think it may be important to state that the only real "ding" is within your Analytics. Google does not use Analytics data in its search algorithm. So if you are monitoring bounce rate for that purpose, worry not.*
More than likely we're looking at a tracking anomaly of some kind, that, at its very worst, is throwing off your Analytics data.
- I might add that the "bounce rate" that DOES influence the search algorithm isn't really bounce rate, but dwell time. See what Duane Forrester wrote about here: http://www.bing.com/community/Site_Blogs/b/webmaster/archive/2011/08/02/how-to-build-quality-content.aspx
This metric is calculated internally by the search engines, and does not cull from Analytics data. Additionally, it is one of thousands of signals that influence ranking, and likely a relatively small one overall.
-
What was occurring was a one day snapshot of a page bounce. What was throwing me off is the 00:00 time on page.
The data was from one day, so the pages with no time on page and 100% bounce rate did not have time to gather more looks and influence the data accordingly.
I did not know that Google does not count time on page if the person bounced from the page they entered - no matter how much time spent, content read, page scrolled etc.
Unfortunately, the page may be highly relevant, but we get no credit for time on page and we get dinged for a high bounce rate.
-
Just to add to my endorsement above:
This is the sort of data irregularity that happens when tracking isn't installed properly. Perhaps somehow the snippet is on some page twice? Difficult to say, and could be many things.
What Sean suggested is where I'd start too. Isolate that traffic that matches this pattern and view by page.
-
The feed manager says they didn't touch anything in our Analytics account.
He added that they have the same type of thing happening in their Analytics account as if it was a "normal" type of occurrance.
Doesn't seem normal to me, so I'm hoping someone knows what's going on.
-
We've got a company managing the feed for us and we're feeding Google, Bing and The Find. On a side note, The Find is worthless.
I'm sending our feed manager an email now with a screenshot of the data.
-
How did you setup a product feed and where is it being pushed to?
-
Just thought of something else. We're also set up with a product feed.
-
Hi Sean,
We've got an ecommerce site on CMS.
I thought Analytics was installed properly - perhaps not. I've not seen this before.
The keywords are random and widespread. I'm in Traffic Sources>Sources>Search>Overview
My finger hovering over the panic button is developing a hair trigger.
-
First questions to ask are what platform is the website on and are you sure analytics is installed properly? I like to get those out of the way first before you start to dive into more info.
And is this isolated to specific pages these keyword landing pages?
Run a custom report in google analytics by landing page with filter only containing those affected keywords

SEO + Structured Data for Metered Paywall
I have a site that will have 90% of the content behind a metered paywall. So all content is accessible in a metered way. All users who aren't logged in will have access to 3 articles (of any kind) in a 30 day period. If they try to access more in a 30 day period they will hit a paywall. I was reading this article here on how to handle structured data with Google for content behind a paywall: https://www.searchenginejournal.com/paywalls-seo-strategy/311359/However, the content is not ALWAYS behind a paywall, since it is metered. So if a new user comes to the site, they can see the article (regardless of what it is). Is there a different way to handle content that will be SOMETIMES behind a paywall bc of a metered strategy? Theoretically I want 100% of the content indexed and accessible in SERPs, it will just be accessible depending on the user's history (cookies) with the site. I hope that makes sense.

Help! Same page with multiple urls. How is this handled?
I'm using DotNetNuke for many of our sites. DotNetNuke's home page can have multiple VALID URLs that go to the same home page. Example: http://aviation-sms.com http://www.aviation-sms.com http://aviation-sms.com/default.aspx http://www.aviation-sms.com/default.aspx and http://aviation-sms.com/aviationSMS.aspx http://www.aviation-sms.com/aviationSMS.aspx All the above URLs have the same content. In the page header tag, I have: Should I be doing something else? such as removing the "default.aspx"??? I have a blog also that has a boatload of pages. I tried this canonical approach, but I'm not sure SEO Moz likes it and the tool offers me little guidance on this issue.

Help with strange 404 Errors.
For the most part I have never had trouble tracking down 404's. Usually it's simply a broken link, but lately I have been getting these strange errors http://gridironexperts.com/http%3A/www.nfl.com/gamecenter?game_id=29528&season=2008&displayPage=tab_gamecenter/ What does; %C2%94 repersent? The error always points to NFL.com, but we don't link to them...like ever? Can I just 404: http://gridironexperts.com// to fix the problem, as all 404's start with this weird %C2%94 error. Is this error even on my site? Is in the backend...virus? thanks -Mike

Help changing category and page titles on established Magento site.
Hi All, This is my first post, I've been a Pro member for a while now, read many posts but have never asked a question here. I have an established Magento site that I need to do a lot of SEO work on. I am a newbie at SEO, so I wanted to ask for advice here. I just changed one of the category names, the url, meta title, and meta description. When making the change I selected the checkbox in the Magento backend that says "Create Permanent Redirect for Old URL" Example:
Technical SEO | | TrulyLuna
Old Category: http://www.domain.com/old-category-name.html
New Category: http://www.domain.com/new-category-name.html Everything worked fine with the exception of one alarming thing... I lost all of the page authority for the category itself and all of the sub categories and pages below it. Now the category and all pages below it show (on the moz toolbar) a PA of 1 and 0 links and 0 domains. I updated the sitemap. I did not do a 301 redirect in the .htaccess, I only chose the option to redirect on the Magento backend when changing the name and url of the category. I need to change a lot of other category and page names and urls but now I'm a bit gun shy, as I do not want to do something that will damage what little page rank I have at the moment. I'm looking for some advice from one of you guys who might be able to help me do this the correct way. I did some research on Google, but I'm still not sure of the correct method to accomplish this. Thanks in advance for any help that you can offer.0 -

Video Sitemap Help
MOZ Helpers, Currently our clients videos are hosted on Viemo and that will not change as our client likes the creative/artist vibe and community via Viemo. That being said we need to create a video sitemap. BTW, Our site uses wordpress. When someone in house uploads a video in the future we want them to be able to enter the video title, description, and tags on the video and when they hit "update" the video and information will get added to our video site map. Wistia has this option here http://wistia.com/doc/video-seo , but like I mentioned above our client has all videos via Viemo. I found a Google XML wordpress plugin, but that said it only works for Youtube video's. The Jr. developer is not confident in creating one himself from the Google webmaster instructions and asked me to search for another solution. Check out the attached pic, that is what I am looking for. Is their a plugin or another option where we can use for easy sitemap updating and management for our Viemo videos? Thanks in advance!
