If you have an unlimited SEO budget, what would you do?
-
Here's a bit of background information: I've achieved the targets and is now being offered what is essentially an unlimited budget. I have a nice list of ideas but thought I would the brilliant people here at the SEOMOZ community what they would do.
So as to promote as much response as possible, I'm going to keep my list to myself for now.
And by "SEO", I mean I can do things like content strategy, blogging, infographics, etc.
Shoot away!
-
By achieving target you mean you've already gotten your client to the first page, number 1 spot for his primary keywords? If yes and I were in your position I would track the conversions he is getting at the moment and then focus on related long tail keywords.
The one thing I would do if i were asked to deliver results ASAP with this budget though is to set up a PPC campaign. If your client is already ranking under keywords that are generating business, why not double that presence with sponsored links? (This is one of our most basic strategies and it works beautifully for us)

Unlimited budget?
The first thing that I would do is get a big piece of framed canvas and a bucket of red paint... then paint on that canvas "Don't Blow the Money". Hang on office wall.
Next get another piece of framed canvas and draw a big line down the left side and a big line along the bottom. These will be two axes of your chart. Label the left axis "profitable"... label the bottom axis "linkable". Hang that on office wall.
Now, every idea that I get for improving the website, write it on a card and pin it on the chart , positioning it along those axes according to its potential profitability and potential linkability. Work on those ideas that plot with the highest total potential - focus on projects that plot farthest to the right in the early stages then move north.

I don't know the link to it, but there's a quick video clip of Distilled's Tom Critchlow pointing out that "it's not about building links, but building relationships." I'd have to agree to a significant degree.
I'm not talking about buying relationships, but I'm talking about doing everything you can to get to know everyone and everybody in the SEO community who's good. Go to all the conferences where they "hang" and spend time going to all the "Link Love", "Search Love" and all the other SEO Love type of fests.
Also, find ways to build up "relationships" with everyone in your niche by either spending time where they spend time and get to know their needs. Cozy up to bloggers that blog in your vertical. Send them nice presents. Remember their birthdays. Build relationships!
With an unlimited budget, I would seriously spend a lot of it building relationships for your client.

Absolutely agree - content marketing, on top of authority accreditation links and other layers of diverse links built on trust.

First of all I would put together a detailed and comprehensive audit of the site. This would give me a basis for putting together a priority based project schedule. Second since I do not have an SEO Team I would consider outsourcing portions of the project so that I may achieve timely results for my client. (since your client has deep pockets and is willing to pay I'll assume he will want to see timely results). Once I have have a handle on correcting most of the issues found in the site audit I would then put together a schedule for blogging, link building, routine seo, etc..
I have worked with a few SEO's and even though they are talented I see most of then struggle when it comes to project management.

Squeaky clean it is. The issue is ROI. It's very difficult to forecast the return of "great content", especially on your blog. I have no problem spending a good amount of money on say a high quality guest post because I know what I will get back.
That said, any recommendations for a great content strategist?
-
Buy Google and tell the engineers to place my site number one for every relevant query : )
Honestly create a content strategy, you could hire X number of experts who's sole job is to create great content/ useful features and tools for your site. If you have unlimited budget there is no reason not to keep your strategy squeaky clean in my opinion.

Gallery maintenance and the effect on SEO
Basically we get a lot of users uploading photos as part of their review, but many photos aren't moderated into our pages and therefore are never displayed. Things like selfies rather than photos of the product or just random google images that are completely unrelated to our products or services. Is there any benefit in cleaning up the gallery since some images we don't use are just sat there in admin?

when a page loads, would it be quicker if we had less content in the gallery? With our SEO hat on.
or does it not matter since it's not loading that content (photos) anyway?0 -
SEO on dynamic website
Hi. I am hoping you can advise. I have a client in one of my training groups and their site is a golf booking engine where all pages are dynamically created based on parameters used in their website search. They want to know what is the best thing to do for SEO. They have some landing pages that Google can see but there is only a small bit of text at the top and the rest of the page is dynamically created. I have advised that they should create landing pages for each of their locations and clubs and use canonicals to handle what Google indexes. Is this the right advice or should they noindex? Thanks S

Are these URL hashtags an SEO issue?
Hi guys - I'm looking at a website which uses hashtags to reveal the relevant content So there's page intro text which stays the same... then you can click a button and the text below that changes So this is www.blablabla.com/packages is the main page - and www.blablabla.com/packages#firstpackage reveals first package text on this page - www.blablabla.com/packages#secondpackage reveals second package text on this same page - and so on. What's the best way to deal with this? My understanding is the URLs after # will not be indexed very easily/atall by Google - what is best practice in this situation?

International SEO - cannibalisation and duplicate content
Hello all, I look after (in house) 3 domains for one niche travel business across three TLDs: .com .com.au and co.uk and a fourth domain on a co.nz TLD which was recently removed from Googles index. Symptoms: For the past 12 months we have been experiencing canibalisation in the SERPs (namely .com.au being rendered in .com) and Panda related ranking devaluations between our .com site and com.au site. Around 12 months ago the .com TLD was hit hard (80% drop in target KWs) by Panda (probably) and we began to action the below changes. Around 6 weeks ago our .com TLD saw big overnight increases in rankings (to date a 70% averaged increase). However, almost to the same percentage we saw in the .com TLD we suffered significant drops in our .com.au rankings. Basically Google seemed to switch its attention from .com TLD to the .com.au TLD. Note: Each TLD is over 6 years old, we've never proactively gone after links (Penguin) and have always aimed for quality in an often spammy industry. **Have done: ** Adding HREF LANG markup to all pages on all domain Each TLD uses local vernacular e.g for the .com site is American Each TLD has pricing in the regional currency Each TLD has details of the respective local offices, the copy references the lacation, we have significant press coverage in each country like The Guardian for our .co.uk site and Sydney Morning Herlad for our Australia site Targeting each site to its respective market in WMT Each TLDs core-pages (within 3 clicks of the primary nav) are 100% unique We're continuing to re-write and publish unique content to each TLD on a weekly basis As the .co.nz site drove such little traffic re-wrting we added no-idex and the TLD has almost compelte dissapread (16% of pages remain) from the SERPs. XML sitemaps Google + profile for each TLD **Have not done: ** Hosted each TLD on a local server Around 600 pages per TLD are duplicated across all TLDs (roughly 50% of all content). These are way down the IA but still duplicated. Images/video sources from local servers Added address and contact details using SCHEMA markup Any help, advice or just validation on this subject would be appreciated! Kian

Changing Servers + Effect on SEO
Hi, I am currently with a very slow server. Our website takes quite a while to load, FTP is very slow and content changes with Wordpress are slow because even the database connection takes a lot of time. However, my website ranks very well. Traffic has doubled in the last year. Our domain has been registered with this company for over 10 years. I am wondering if changing to a different hosting provider would have an effect on my rankings due to the change in IP.

Iframe redirect bad for SEO?
Hi, I have a website (http://www.blowingminds.de) wich I put a spreadshirt shop into via iframe. The thing is I am not sure on how the iframe effects my SEO? Can I just optimise the main domain for search? Well I want the spreadshirt shop to be found under the domain name (www.blowingminds.de) but the only real way to do it is by implementing an iframe because each spreadshirt shop has its own subdomain eg.: blowingminds.spreadshirt.de but the only real way to do it is via iframe, as they do not offer a complete domain redirect. (Or have I overseen some other way?) I hope you guys can help me on this one 🙂 Thanks in advance. Malte

Does capitalization matter for SEO?
Two places capitalization comes into play: (1) on-page use (title, h1, body text, img alt text, etc) (2) external anchor text I didn't think it mattered from Google's point of view for on-page usage (is this correct?) but I notice that OpenSiteExplorer' s 'anchor text distribution' tab shows different counts for the same keyword if it's capitalized in different ways (eg seomoz.org is listed separate from SEOmoz.org). Is that just OSE or does Google treat the keyword/phrase different based on its capitalization, too? And if so, then should I be creating external links to my site with the 'regular' and 'Capitalized' versions of my key phrases?
