How to target local searches?
-
How do I start to target a national audiences? I currently get most of my hits from The US and Australia? But I see no reason why I don't get vies in Canada and The UK.
-
Well when you say local are you looking for people who are searching "service keyword canada". For example "best dentist in canada" or something like that?
Having pages built out by location is going to be key opposed to just trying to write content on one page. But the trade off is you do not want to just write poor content for the sake of building out pages. You need to come up with a strategy that makes sense. So I will use the dentist example above. Say you are a website that talks about the best healthcare by region.
You would make a page per location and highlight businesses. Top paragraph would be an h1 for the city/area plus the service and then have a paragraph of unique content about it. Each business could be a page and link back to the main page. Also maybe writing about news in blog posts in the area and using more internal linking will be key (not using exact match anchor text all the time but something that just makes sense).

Store locator searches online and offline store visits
Hi All, What is the accepted % for visitors that conduct a store locator search online actually visiting that particular store for the nutrition industry? (For example if 50 people used the store locator search on the website , we can confidently say that 25 of them actually went to that store) Any input or reference to studies/white papers on this topic would be appreciated. Cheers, SEO5..

Which Search Engine Do Women Primarily Prefer?
I found a study in 2005 titled "Men Are From Google, Women Are From Yahoo" showing that women at that time preferred Yahoo as their primary search engine. I'm unable to track down updated statistical data to determine which search engine women primarily prefer. Any links to studies or resources would be greatly appreciated!

Website coming up in omitted results for search term?
Hi, My website is coming up in omitted results for search term. Now I have heard before if this is the case then its mainly due to a duplicate content penalty. But the content I used is unique and produced by a copywriter so its good. Its a new site and was in the results for about 2 weeks, I changed the non www to www in webmaster tools 1 day ago and now its sitting in omitted results. In webmaster tools I had to add the domain twice one non www and one www. Both accounts I hooked up a sitemap. Is it just because the site is new and its just working out where to rank me? Just so you know the non www was indexed for the 2 weeks changed it in webmaster tools so I wanted the www one indexed and now gone into omitted results. Cheers

"If a company has multiple practice areas, are there any advantages to having specialized local listings for each specific practice area?"
Hello Staff of SEOMoz! I just had a question regarding specialized local listings. Are there any advantages to having specialized local listings? (An example would be if we were a medical company, having a listing for family practice, one listing for women's health) If there are advantages, what are those advantages compared to having general medical listings? Thanks!
