Would like to test other words besides "subscribe"
-
I have a newsletter button on my website that states "subscribe now". I am wondering if there are better words than the word subscribe since people are so numb to that word now. Anyone ever measure or A/B test different words?
-
Hi Streetwise,
I've never actually A/B'd a subscription mechanism like the one you're talking about, but I definitely agree that people are NUMB to the word "Subscribe" and that setting yourself apart a little bit would help.
One of the thing's I really appreciate about SEOMoz is the inventiveness and originality they employ in converting visitors to customers... worked on me
From greeting me with a nice warm "Aloha" to having Roger personally tell me I've reached a 404 pages, it's that kind of personal customer engagement that seems to be leading to more conversions these days.
I'm not sure what your niche is but a few suggestions to replace "Subscribe Now".
Stay Informed.
Keep me Informed.
Update me.
Keep me in the loop.
I think even eliminating "now" could help, and having the button simply say "Subscribe"
Last one...
Hop on the Bus, Gus.
Kidding... but you get the point. Be different.
Take a browse through seomoz.org and you'll see plenty of examples. (Might want to log out first to get the full effect.)
Hope this helps.
Thanks,
Anthony

SEOmoz uses "Sign Up". A/B against that.

Not really sure what works for everyone else, but I'm always a sucker for "Click here for Free Beer". It gets me all the time.
-
It really depends what your niche/audience is. A lot of these results vary by industry and region. I think you are on the right track to do some sort of an A/B test to see what works better. Sometimes what we think and what's right are like 2 completely different things. I always like to test.

Thanks, but I heard the word download was dangerous as people are weary of downloading something from a site they are not familiar with.

Looks like a nice article. Thanks for the link Brent. Just clipped it for reading tonight. Glanced at the sub-topics, looks interesting.

It will be great to see if anyone has any stats on this. I did recently read a good article similar to this on Hubspot, "How to Write Call-to-Action Copy That Gets Visitors Clicking"
I know it isn't exactly the answer you are looking for, but I feel they have some good points and suggestions.

I am not sure, but something like Join Now. Or if you have some sort of a giveaway, something to download, it could become like Free Download etc. I hope that helps trigger some ideas

Target="_blank" and referral acquisition data
Hi, Any assistance would be greatly appreciated! I have been reading up on this topic but there is some contradictory articles out there and I was hoping someone could clarify the latest practise for me. Website A links out to four of its partner websites.
Search Behavior | | AMA-DataSet
These links are using a target="_blank". When i look at the acquisition data for any of the partner websites there is zero referral data from site A.
I tested this wasn't an analytics bug by using the real time feature while clicking the partner links to see what had happened, and to also find the source, but I found that they are all being returned as a source direct. Ideally id like it to show the referrals once more for reporting purposes. Do I need to add extra google analytics parameters/functions to track the outbound links? or should this referral data be appearing correctly and it is something unrelated to the links themselves? or should I throw in the towel and drop the target blanks? Thank you in advance for your time.

Is there another option for User Testing besides Usertesting.com
I loved the presentation Phil Sharp did about A/B testing using User Testing. I would love to use his company UserTesting.com, but their minimum package is for $7500! I'm a small business and certainly cannot afford that. Is there another option for the small business owner?

What should go in a "Link Juice" cocktail?
The office just got some of those fancy Google Partner bottles, and I want to fill them up with a tasty cocktail that is link juice themed. Any ideas on how to tie Google and/or SEO into a fancy cocktail?

Would it be worthwhile to update URLs to include "for sale"
My team is new to the world of SEO. We were both in other departments when our last "expert" left and we became the entire department. Needless to say, we have many questions. I have a site for an existing customer - she wants to know if it is a good idea to change her URLs. She went to a webinar that suggested she include "for sale" in URL, since that is the site's primary purpose These are the current inventory URLs: http://www.dealerskinssite.com/used-inventory http://www.dealerskinssite.com/new-inventory The change would give something like: http://www.dealerskinssite.com/used-cars-for-sale
Search Behavior | | DealerskinsSearch
http://www.dealerskinssite.com/new-cars-for-sale I did some searching and could not find a solid recommendation one way or another. If it is true that people typically search for "used cars for sale" rather than a "used inventory", then there might be benefit to including that as part of the URL... but that is as far as my knowledge got me. Please let me know your thoughts Steve0 -
Can you track "Add to home screen" for ios devices?
I was curious to know if there was a way to track in analytics users "adding to home screen" on ios devices. With the new ios map not receiving so much love and google maps "web app" process getting more attention, I feel knowing this stat would help us decide if we really need a native app or not. Our customers don't normally return within the year and when they do its about 2-3 (normally on a desk top), To us it does not completely justify the idea of making a native app with the world being so app heavy now a days. Any thoughts are always appreciated.

Testing Your Homepage Title Tag
It can be a scary thing to change your homepage title tag to get the best results in the SERP while also maintaining your rankings. You obviously want to be irresistible and clickworthy… so how much time do you give before changing it up to test again?

"If a company has multiple practice areas, are there any advantages to having specialized local listings for each specific practice area?"
Hello Staff of SEOMoz! I just had a question regarding specialized local listings. Are there any advantages to having specialized local listings? (An example would be if we were a medical company, having a listing for family practice, one listing for women's health) If there are advantages, what are those advantages compared to having general medical listings? Thanks!
