What's the deal with this local business directory? (http://www.camerchants.com/)

They have a couple listings of us with screwy info but i can't actually use their website, all the buttons that say "join" or "write a review" "uplaod an image" etc, are just an href="#" and don't actually do anything???
I figured maybe they have some broken javascript so i tried using different browsers (firefox & chrome in mac, and IE in windows.)
Here's our listings in there:

http://www.camerchants.com/Business/Movers/Storwell.Self.Storage/MTEwMjMyOA
http://www.camerchants.com/Business/Recreational+Vehicles+Storage/Storwell.Self.Storage/MTAyODU4OQ#Are you able to click anything on this website and it actually functions as advertised? am i just using the wrong browser, or is this some kind of tool competitors use to blackhat our local listings into oblivion?

Hey! thanks for the info! this is awesome, i'll give them a call tomorrow and see if it gets me anywhere.

Looks like this site is "owned" by someone in Guangzhou, China. They may have scraped the content at some point and have little or no desire to amend it.
You said you had no luck emailing the site, how about sending a message via Facebook....
http://www.facebook.com/people/Anson-Xiao/572759798
...or using the domain owners gmail address anson.x@gmail.com
or can even try calling +86.13560182003

There are non-public databases that many online yellow page-type websites get their data from. I don't know where to find a list of them, though. Sorry I can't be more help. Maybe someone else will chime in with suggestions.
-
I've fixed all the others. at least all the others that i can find with extensive googling and whitesparks tools. Not sure how to look for other incorrect listings out there.
-
Are you sure this site is the source Google Places is using to add the location? Another possibility is that this site and Google Places are both getting their data from the same source...
-
One of those listings keeps getting google places to add another location for us, at a random address. I'm not sure how to fix this. I've tried e-mnailing the site, i've tried using the site. i'm at a loss...
The only thing i can think of is DDNS'ing the site with a botnet.

The site doesn't appear to be fully functional, that's for sure. Hard to say - maybe it is an abandoned or unfinished website, or maybe they just have some broken features. It almost looks unfinished to me - like they started building it and didn't finish.

Https lock broken possibly due to absolute http header footer image links.
To make the https lock secure, can I make my website header and footer image URLs to relative? I have read that we need to have absolute URLs for images for good SEO. In our old ecommerce platform we made http image urls for http pages and https image urls for https pages. For our new platform this is not a standard feature and we will have to pay for customizations which we don't have any more budget for that. So will making image URLs relative create any other problems?

What is the best way to optimise the website of a service area business websites for local search?
Service area businesses are a little caught in the middle when it comes to local optimisation and can really struggle to So what approaches would your recommend for optimising a service area business: Assuming the following, perhaps obvious, goals: Make sure your site visitors can clearly understand if their location is covered by your service areas Compete for search traffic for service + location searches (including those with an implided location). One common tactic that I see being used is to generate humongous lists of locations, maybe in a footer. Obviously the more areas you want to include the less relevant (and more spammy looking) your targetting looks. And of course, with loads of locations, you're not going to be able to get them all into your titles (even if you wanted to!) Maybe if you've got locations that are more inportant to you you might create specific landing pages for these location? If you've got the kind of business where the locations you target are determined by the locations you can reasonably get to during a working day it's really tough to find a realistic way to target specific location on your site. I'd be really interested to hear how you approach these kinds of sites.

Local Really?
I've asked this question before and got some strong advice ( I think ) but the results have been not so strong. I'm looking for advice on local. I have this profile: https://plus.google.com/u/0/114370561649922317296/about That I need to rank for "austin wedding photographers" and I have yet to figure out a way to get it to move on the map results. I understand these things take time, but its been a couple of months, and as far as I can tell, its still ranking on page 10 of the "local results" (meaning you search for austin wedding photographers, then click under the map listings to see Google Maps with the listings to the left.) Furthermore, all my organic competition for the most part is now on the local results and the map is ranking higher than all but one organic. Suggestions would be a huge plus. Last time some folks analyzed the google plus local page and gave some tips. Since then a few things have happened. 1. I notice most of the Google Local listings that come up on page 1 in the map have a similar page when clicking "more info." They mostly have a map as their cover photo on their listing. 2. Google has merged my Google Places and Google Plus Local account so that when you click "more info" on the listing (on page 10) it takes you too the branded Google Plus Local page. I like this, but it worries me that most of the high ranking pages don't have this. 3. I have added a Geo Sitemap to Google Webmaster tools but it doesn't show as indexed yet. I understand this can take up to 6 weeks? Does this help? It came when I bought Yoast SEO Local and generated KML files. 4. The address for Google Plus local is real address of a home, so Google doesn't show the specific address. I used to have a mailbox center as the address but was advised to fix that. I have sense changed the address on as many sites as I could (Yelp, YP, Superpages, etc.) 5. Do I need an address on the website? The client does not want her home address listed anywhere for privacy reasons. Hope this is enough information for someone with knowledge to help. The website is ranking first page (3 or 4 organically) for the terms I need for the most part but Local seems to be stronger. Thanks in advance.

Google+ Local City Centroid Bias
It's well-known that Google has a bias towards businesses located closest to the center of the city being searched in. How can you tell where exactly Google considers to be the center of the city? I think that the way is to just search the city name on Google Maps and the marker will appear at where they consider the center of the city to be but just wanted to double check on that first.

Does anyone have experience with ecinity.com as a vehicle for populating local search directories? If yes, how would you rank it as a competitor to Localeze and UBL?
I've been approached by the company to use their tool. It has functionality beyond just populating local data sources which I'm not concerned with. I just want to know how it ranks in terms of local directory coverage. They claim 85% of the local directories will be populated.

Physicall business in GMaps
Hi, how are you? I'm working with the SEO of a hotel. I completed the Google Places profile, but i'm having a problem: when you go to the map in google maps near the hotel, it shows all the hotels around like in the picture i'm attaching, with little icons like a fork for restaurants, a bed for hotels, a bag for shopping malls. Do you know what reasons could cause that my hotel isn´t appearing like that, with those icons? I'll be really grateful if you can help me with this. Thanks! Ariel

Meaning Behind Google Local Search Results Icons?
I can't seem to easily find this answer anywhere (even in the Google Places FAQ page), so thought I'd stop digging around and simply ask it here: What are the meanings behind the icons to the right of the link and to the left of the "place page" link in Google's local search results? I see a checkmark/question mark in a circle, then a bar chart with various levels filled in, then a dollar sign in a circle, then a magnifying glass. 1. What are these telling me, as a searcher? 2. What are they telling the owner of the business? Thank you for your help; I just can't seem to find a reference for this...
