Remove links after Penguin?
-
My site did not get hit.
I am worried that Google will come back and get me for those anchor-text links I built a while back. They are of low to medium quality guest posts. Should I remove my old low-quality links? What about those on sites and pages that have been deindexed by Google? Any point in removing those?
I know we can only speculate at this point, but would really appreciate some opinions on this.
Has the trend in the past been a slight rollback after a big algorithm update like this? Or could we expect to see more and more sites being penalized?

The reason to remove links from domains that are de-indexed from Google listings is because mots of the times domains that are de-indexed are caught as the participant of some low level activity.

Thanks Moosa!
I wouldn't have thought removing links from domains that have been deindexed would make a difference, but I'll look into it and make the changes.
Would love some more opionins on this.
Thanks again!

Hey, expecting Google to settle down against low quality content and links in my opinion is a lousy thought! I think it’s great to check your profile and remove the links that looks SPAM!
In all honesty, guest posting links are usually fine unless they are on blogs that contain solid SPAM back link profile.
I would recommend removing the links from the websites that are no more available in Google index!
Other these the above advice I would highly recommend to remove the site wide links and add some good textual links from the profile… Rankings may fluctuate a bit but its way better then getting hit by any black and while Animal!

Spammy links
Hi I was reviewing a clients link profile and found a lot of the links they have pointed at their domain have the anchor text "Buy Viagra" or "buy viagra online" and similar. Now the website has absolutely nothing to do with this kind of business so no doubt these links are spammy. To my knowledge the website has not been penalised by Google so far. Is it best to disavow or just leave alone? Kind Regards

Internal Links - First Link Rule Confusion
Hello All - I would like to create a guide for my team of rules for internal links and I could use some help. My understanding is that Google only counts the first link to a page, so any crafted keyword text links within the content do not count if the page in question is linked to from the main navigation. Is this correct? For example, if the menu or drop down menu in main site nav (which exists on all pages of the site) includes a link to a particular section that will be the only one that ever counts since the menu is on every page? Example: let's say a website selling cat toys includes a drop down menu on the homepage with links to "holiday cat toys". Does this mean that no other text links in content on the site will support that page from an SEO perspective since the link is in the main nav and will always be the first one counted? In the past we have added text links in the content on the homepage to important pages on the site. It seems to work, though now I'm questing these tactics based on the first link rule. I would appreciate some advice, clarification, thoughts, etc. Thanks!

Links Removed from Site but not Google Webmaster Tools
I have a new client who has been fighting to get past an unnatural links penalty. One of the biggest reasons behind it was that they paid to get a followed link/ad on a blog network, well this ad ended up being a site wide link which ended up giving them thousands of back links within a few days. After getting the owner of the blog network to remove the link i manually spot checked a handful of pages and used screaming frog to crawl looking for a link referencing their site. From what i can tell they are all gone. However they are still in Google Webmaster Tools as well as Google's index and it has been a couple months since they have been removed. Does anyone have any advice on getting them removed from Google's entities even though they are already off of the website? Thank you in advance,

Phantom spam links
All, Open site explorer is showing a very spammy link profile for one of my clients, however, when I click through to the actual pages I don't see the links or even the anchor text. The client has not hired anyone to do clean up on the site and is not yet aware of the links. Has anyone had similar experiences? John

Should Penguin makes me question all reciprical links, even relevant ones?
Prior to Penguin, I had begun a link building campaign of sorts for a tourism bureau. All it was designed to do was leverage a wealth of relevant link opportunities that were right under our noses...the bureau's own members. These restaurants, hotels, attractions, etc are extremely relevant web sites with respect to the tourism bureau's target and niche. The links were to be in the form of image badges stating "Proud member of..." with brand-only alt text and title tags. I will focus on keeping these links a reasonable percentage of the overall domains linking into the site, I will vary the alt text throughout, and cultivate the links slowly over a 5-month period. But since the bureau's site already drives traffic to these individual member sites, the links we cultivate will end up being reciprocal. Even though they are natural in the purpose they serve, should we be worried, and consider abandoning the program?

Linking domains on same ip
I don't know if i can post a link in the question so if you google 800 appliance and do a little reaserch on them you will see that it has many links with same content linking to the main domain and to each other. They hosted on the same ip which from what i read doesn't supposed to help in ranking. I saw many nich websites like this with the same idea. What am i missing here...?
