Which domain name should i choose for a air ticket search engine?
-
Hi,
i am deciding to buy a domain name for a air ticket search engine.
i want to target australia first and then worldwide in the future.
most of the names with my keywords "cheap flights" are already been registered.
I have tried many combination but could not find a proper name.
One question is does keywords rich domains (not exact) helps a lot?
also i was thinking if i can an keyword rich domain i could easily get links with the desired anchor text links.
would it be a lot harder to get a domain name e.g. flightscomparision.com while targeting the term "cheap flights" or "cheap fares".
Also i was thinking if i get a domain with "A" at the beginning i will be listed on top of directories.
below are a list of domains i am able to register.
any other suggestions?
thanks

thank you for your reply.
do you think i am 15 years too late as google is acquiring ITA.

There are well documented advantages of keyword matched domain names and although there is talk of the advantage being diminished I would be suprised if it lost all of its advantage. As is mentioned on other responses the keyword matched domain isn't as brandable and doesn't sound as interesting.
If the site is going to be accompanied my marketing via other channels, TV, Radio, Magazines etc then a branded domain name may work better. If its traffic is to be driven purely from its performance in search engines then the keyword domain may be the route to take.
Isn't flightscomparison.com already taken? Also listing the exact domains you are considering may not be the best bet as an unscrupulous individual could register them all before you knowing you were interested and try and sell them back to you.
-
I think I would have to disagree. AUCheapFlights.com is not as brandable as FlightsComparison.com. That would be my choice.
-
I always agree with domains with keywords in them for sure.
-
I agree, this type of site will benefit from brandability.
It's definitely nice to get keywords in your domain. This will give some sort of an SEO boost, but also tell your users right off the bat something about your site. I think for a site like this you are gonna need to do more than just strict SEO (social media, facebook, etc) and a branded domain will be very beneficial in that sense.

I think you should pick a name you can brand that has some of your keyword in it -my suggestions below

I'd say that I'd have to disagree with, "No point registering keyword rich domain unless it's a short lived affair."
Why is that? I completely disagree. Most of my successful websites all are based around keywords, and I've had them for years...
-
I support the brandable domain option. No point registering keyword rich domain unless it's a short lived affair.

Hi, Ray,
Typically, directories don't often sort by alphabetical order; they allow the user to choose how they view the results, or, they sort by showing the paid listings first.
With that said, here's what I usually look like when starting a new project & choosing a domain:
- Is the domain name brand-able?
- Can I have keywords in the domain?
- Do I have the option of buying a domain with a high Page Rank?
Right now, having keywords in your domain is a pretty significant factor, but there have been rumors of Google changing it's algorithm to put less weight on the keywords in domain.
If I was in your shoes, I think I'd go with "AUCheapFlights.com" just because it's brand-able & it has keywords.
I hope this helped!

Thank you so much in advance.

Wikipedia and Domain Authority?
Hi there, my company is an online publisher of Theater news and reviews. We also sell theater tickets. We presently don't have a Wikipedia page. Would creating one generally help our search rankings?

Where Does Google Pull the Photo From When You Search For Your Brand?
Hi All, In doing a search for our brand from our corporate HQ (Learning Tree), I came across a large embedded "ad" so to speak on the right hand side front and center of one of our locations (see attached photo). Clearly this is from Google's Knowledge Graph. We aren't pleased with the photo of a computer screen pulling randomly from our website...we are OK with the map listing though. Anyway to change this? As a note, when you search for "Learning Tree International" (our more official name as the entity as a whole - we have many locations around the world, and also one near our corporate HQ, which is the one that's displaying when you search "Learning Tree" alone), much better imagery of our logo is displayed. That's coming from our corporate G+ page. Any suggestions? Thank you. s0C5ZpT&hXaLhE7 s0C5ZpT&hXaLhE7#1

International domain query
my client is a financial services company with some ccTLDs for brand name but does not own the .com eg: brandname.ch, brandname.ro etc we need to launch a brand UK site plus a global site. should we go for another name on the .com: brandname_financial.com_, and: brandname_financial.ch_, brandname_financial.ro_ etc or could we go for instead brandname.uk.com and brandname.eu.com? i'm worried the owner of brandname.com will build a site and out rank us.....however the alternative is a longer url but owning the .com hope that makes sense and any advice would be gladly received! Many thanks

Moving Blog from www.topic.domain.com to www.domain.com/blog
Hi Fellow Mozzers, Just started off here on seomoz.org and am super happy to have joined the community! I've recently started a new job as web optimization manager for an education company. There is a lot to do and one of my first tasks is to figure a better strategy for our current blog. I've convinced our management to move our blog from topic.domain.com to domain.com/blog. My research has shown that this is a better strategy so that our blog can receive the DA of our root domain, get more people to click through our site, and even receive more natural searches (PLEASE, someone correct me if I'm wrong on this). Anyway, our blog is currently hosted as a Wordpress blog and we're wondering if it's more worthwhile to build a blog platform ourselves or continue using Wordpress. I am not a technical guy and don't know the backend stuff to make it happen, but my concern is primarily for the optimum search capacity. Also, our bloggers frequently put links to different portions of our website - does this hold any negative SEO value in terms of too much internal linking? I personally wouldn't assume so, but then again I could be wrong. Finally, we also track our main website using Google Analytics- currently, the only tracking we have installed on our blogs is the default provided by Wordpress (yes yes I know, but that's why i'm here -- to fix these weaknesses). I'm assuming we will be able to better track using GA when the switch is made. So, I guess my questions are: (1) Is my research correct in that it's better to have our blog hosted as domain.com/blog over topic.domain.com (2) Are there any best practices in making this switch and/or any negative implications with continuing to use Wordpress or should we build our own platform (we have the internal resources to do so, but would prefer to take the easiest and best route in terms of SEO and community building). (3) Will it still be just as easy to track using GA. Thank you!! Pedram

Hotel website domain
I work on a project for a hotel website and look up domain names right now. But I am now not sure wether I should go for a branding of the hotel name in the domain name (e.g. "bellavistahotel.com") or pick the location ("berlinhotel.com") or a mix (e.g. "bellavistaberlin.com). What would be your recommendation? The content (text, photos, videos) I have is a lot about the location and the hotel itself. I want to connect the Hotel page afterwards with Knowem to hundreds of social networks. My tendency is to go for a branding. Is that a good idea? Thanks for the help.

301 or 302 for one of our domains
We have one of our sites that we got rid of and incorporated into our "main" site. We left a 302 redirect from the old sites URL to a landing page on the new site. It act as a branded stub page before registration. We are currently using a 302 to redirect from www.oldsite.com -> www.newbigsite.com/old-site Should I change this to a 301? I loose my google SERP ranking for www.oldsite.com if I do the 301 and it will be replaced by www.newbigsite.com/old-site correct? Thanks

Dental Office With Two Locations And Same Practice Name
Dentists buy other practices all the time. Sometimes they change the name of the practice and other times they keep the name. I am working with a dentist on a new website because their old one is riddled with flash (and is ugly too) She has two practices but they have the same practice name. One of them caters to half English speaking and half Spanish speaking patients. I'm thinking I should create a separate website for each practice mainly because we may want to design the graphics and text for the appropriate patient language probably with a English/Spanish translation button on the website? For localization, wouldn't it be better to have a url for each physical site? Suggestions?
