Thanks,

Hi Jason,
Thanks for sharing your ideas. I use google chrome incognito but many times the ranking differs with my SEOmoz rank tracker results and I don't really know what shall I take into consideration when I update my boss? I haven't check the organic results yet but after that I will do it regularly as well. After Panda update I decided not to use many keywords, instead I use 1 or 2 keywords, do you think this is right thing to do?
Thanks,
-
I track a couple hundred keywords and rank tracker varies a bit from week to week. Seeing your rank move one position over a short period of time isn't cause for much concern.
Did your organic traffic decrease significantly recently?
Use Google Chrome Incognito and check your position manually for each keyword.
Check out what the competitor that replaced you in the second position is doing. I have seen several competing site that will rocket up in rankings for a short time because they purchased or spammed 300K links quickly but they eventually fall.
You may also have to give it some time. I made a bunch of changes all at once before and I dropped 4 to 5 position on a lot of my keywords for about a week or so, and then I went right back up.

Hi Malcolm,
I'm aware the latest updates of Google so I'm really careful when I build my links as well as onpage optimization. I choose max 2 keywords per page, building links only related and quality websites!
What makes me think that know whatever I do I'm never going to be able to ready for SEO or hold the rankings.
I'm using SEOmoz rank tracker, maybe it has a problem? Is there any other way of tracking the rankings?
Thanks

If you've changed a significant amount of content then Google has obviously re crawled your site and to it may look like a different page.
You may have over-optimised your page with too many keywords.
You may have put in too many internal links.
You may have fundamentally altered the html code to become less seo friendly.
You may have built links to your pages from low quality sources that harmed your site.
You may have altered the meta titles/descriptions that were ideal in the first place.
Your competitors could have been enhancing their seo activity at the same time.
I could list hundreds more but that's for you to work out as you've not given much information other than your site has dropped one place.

Do Google's mobile friendly updates effect visibility on desktop results pages?
Google say that their quest to make websites more mobile friendly impacts mobile search results - https://webmasters.googleblog.com/2016/03/continuing-to-make-web-more-mobile.html But I am wondering if having a website that is less mobile friendly effects desktop SERPs as well? We require Adobe Flash as a tool for people to upload their images to us but not on the landing pages we're trying to rank. So our landing pages are not as mobile friendly as they could be (which we're looking to improve) but am worried this is effecting desktop search results even though Google do not claim they do.

Homepage On-page Optimization
How do you all handle homepage optimization, if you (or a client) offers a variety of services? Our homepage has the strongest link profile of any of our pages, but it lists all the areas of law we cover. Therefore, it has too many keywords and none really rank well. Should we just pick our most profitable areas and optimize for that? www.kempruge.com in case anyone would benefit from looking at the actual page. Thanks, Ruben

Big shift in local results with Penguin 2.0?
Is anyone else seeing a big shift in local results since Penguin 2.0. I am logged out of Google, all personalisation switched off but my results are being personalised to my location for all results, not just Google+ Local results? I'm pretty sure penguin is bigger than 2.3% of queries or whatever was reported..

If I want to rank well on one keyword would it be better to optimize multiple pages on the website for the keyword or should I only optimize one page for that keyword?

Woah, my A-grade optimized pages that were on the first page have all vanished outside the top 50 in Google... is this Panda?
Yep as mentioned, I had some pages hit the top ten pretty quickly after ensuring they were A-grade for pretty uncompetitive keywords however, today, all bar 2 have just vanished from the top 50! All were ranking in Google.co.uk and I know we were predicting the Panda update to hit soon but WOW! My client is understandably a little upset, what on earch do I tell him and what should I do about it? Cheers! jT

Optimization of home page
Hi there I have an issue which, despite searching hard, I simply cannot find the right solution for. We have an index page that used to rank pretty well for a main industry keyword. However following a revamp of the site last year the kw slipped and no longer brings in decent traffic levels. The problem seems to be that the old static site had a sprinkling of variable anchor text links that brought value to the home page. Instead of the main anchor being "home" we would revert to "main keyword" and variations across the site sometimes in t he content but mainly on the nav bars. However the new CMS design structure restricts us considerably with anchor distribution and so instead we opted for the site logo on the masthead to have an ALT tag for "main keyword" but so as not to game google too much we added .."home" to the tag. Probably pointless but we figured it could do no harm. This ALT text is site wide Problem now is that we have lost the spread of internal nav bar anchors and variety etc. We have slipped in the serps for "main keyword" and I cant help thinking we are not maximising the anchors as we should. So what Im coming to is this.... How can we tell if Google is picking up the ALT tage anchor as the main anchor to rank the site at the expense of all internal text anchors. Despite retaining lots of embedded anchors - according to the Moz metrics these are not being picked up because OSE suggests the ALT tag anchor is taking precedence. The serps probably support this view as well. Should we: a) Vary the masthead ALT if there is no way of avoiding this being the most important link / anchor on the page b) Remove the ALT anchor and instead opt for content links high on the page (we do have nav bar links saying "Home" site wide as well which may overrid the embedded links?) c) Leave the ALT alone and still push for content anchors as described in b) What is the best way to handle this..? Best wishes and thanks Morch
