SEO companies

So prior to joining SEOmoz I have tried a few seo companies and had somewhat decent results. All of these companies did things like:
directory submissions
social bookmarking
social profiles
blog comments
article syndication
press releaseand so forth. These things that they were doing worked and improved the rankings of my websites in the serps. After some time and research I figured out that all this stuff was easy to do and that I could do these things myself.
After joining SEOmoz I come to find that these types of links are not considered high quality because they are easy to acquire. Some of you may even say that they are the basis of a spammy link profile. My question is why would you not want to do these things if they work and all of your competition is using these strategies, including big name brand companies?
-
Well some of my link profile has this work done already. Would it be a bad idea to add a little bit more then focus on building high quality links? I mean the worst that could happen is all of the spammy links would be devalued right?
-
Their is going to be no/ lower market for rubbish SEO services who only offer poor quality services. But in my eyes now is the best time for high quality services. People say link building is dead! Low quality link building is but high quality link building and out reach which is natural is in demand at the moment.
In regards to the original question, yes most of the services those SEO companies did for you are easy to do and they yield lower quality results, but in my eyes if you are a business owner you simply do not have the time to do link building, my advice would eb too look for a well known respected SEO company in your area.

Seo is a marathon not a sprint. Sprinters can get to page one fast but marathoners can go the distance. When it comes to your business succeeding with the major search engines it's better to take the advice of the Pros here on seomoz like EGOL, Marie and Francisco. I've followed there advice since joining a month ago and it has helped a lot.
-
Here are my 2 cents. Yes they can work and "yes" I did it years ago and I did not get caught. I don't do it anymore. Here is the real reason I don't do it. Currently there are about 15 employees. "IF" I would have gamed the algorithm 1 year ago, then today there would have been 5 people laid off. I don't want my client to lay off anybody especially since many of them have kids and a mortgage.
This is the same reason I don't run Google Adwords to the max. Let's say that I get 20,000 unique visits per month coming from Adwords. If I am maxed out on acquiring traffic, then any decrease would mean downsizing. There are only so many people searching Google/Yahoo/Bing for keywords.
Instead I would want my traffic to be consistent and reliable so everybody can keep their jobs; including me.
-
Yup yup yup to what EGOL says. I personally think there are going to be a lot fewer SEOs in the world very soon. With the latest algo updates, gone are the days when you could throw up a spammy link profile and rank a site. Rather, SEOs are going to have to be smart and creative and actually find ways to get people to link to sites naturally.
There are still some tactics that are working such as guest posts, but I'm suspicious that even these will be closely scrutinized by Google soon.

In the past few months, lots of website owners who have enjoyed success from these methods for years are now at much lower traffic levels in response to Google's Penguin update and other actions. Those who have used keywords repetitively as anchor text seem to have particular problems.
So, although lots of people still use these methods, many are now afraid of them after seeing their business (or their colleague's business) lose website revenue and lay off their fulfillment staff.
Also, during the past year many people believe that these methods have become much less effective, and, many directories, article sites, and press release sites have lost rankings or even indexing.
That is the practical explanation.
To go philosophical, why should google honor these methods? They do nothing to improve the webmaster's site or provide a service to the visitors. So, a better and long term investment would be to build assets for the website.

Consequences of shutting down a company blog
We’re an ecommerce company with a blog of 150+ posts. The blog brings in very low traffic and we were never that consistent in publishing great and frequent content. We now know our organic traffic comes from other pages that are doing great. So our question.. Should we: 1. Stop linking to the blog internally and just leave the it up as is. No harm here we guess, but these posts are not as relevant now and we feel their high bounce rate and low ranking is affecting our overall performance.

2. Take it down and 410 the pages. Will that many 410s eventually hurt us?
3. Take it down and 301 to home page of the company. Will permanently redirecting that many pages to our home page hurt us? Appreciate any input.0 -

Does having our products on Amazon or EBay help with our SEO ranking?
We have an ecommerce web site, which ranks ok , but we are trying to build up our SEO scores. We're looking at links and were wondering if having our products listed on either Amazon or Ebay (or both) will actually help with ranking of our site? We sometimes have products listed on ebay with a reference to the higher price that the item is selling for on our main site. Thank you.

Any successes getting SEO/link vendors clean up Penguin-related problems they helped create?
Hi all, I'm wondering if anyone's been able to get link vendors help clean up Penguin-related problems that they helped create? I have a client who was sold years and years of AWFUL link building work from a major and prominent SEO vendor, that we are now battling to de-toxify. There are no legal grounds for us as the ToS was watertight and the client is ultimately responsible (if naive), but has anyone been successful in getting vendors to cooperate with cleanups on ethical grounds? What's the best way to play that with a major vendor, I'm assuming they wouldn't want to be outed. Cheers all, Matt

External linking on a company blog
This has been bothering me for a long time. Our company has a sub-domain blog that gets a respectable amount of traffic but not a lot of SER. Most of our traffic comes from social shares (although we do rank really high for a few key searches). The blog manager is convinced that providing external links to additional resources or source material "dilutes the SEO juice" for the blog. URLs are provided, but they aren't linked. Attempts to sway her to the idea that external links are actually Good Things® have been stonewalled. Tell me I'm right and why.

SEO Firm recommendations?
I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a quality SEO company that focuses primarily on building links on high quality sites? So many of the SEO firms are too slick with their sales people and content analysis and research and reports & B.S. What I'd like is an honest company who will simply help me acquire high quality links. Any SEO companies out there that can help??? Most SEO companies are also way too expensive. I'm looking for quality @ a value. Can anyone help?

Where do I find the best link building company?
Hi there, I'm trying to find an ethical, honest, link building company. We don't want links on shady forums, or comment spam, or any of that black hat nastyness!. I want links, on proper sites, and I'm prepared to pay for them accordingly. We're also more than happy to write/have written/ quality content that can be linked to. (We already pump out about 15 x 400+ word, optimised blogs weeks) We spend hours on the various social media sites also. So I think the only thing we're really missing now, is decent backlinks and possibly some more long tail keywords... Over to you guys. Paul.

Blackhat SEO firm had more success than whitehat me
I’ve been link building for a small online store. Before I took over their SEO, they hired a company who got them lots of spammy links over a 12 month contract. The spammy links didn't seem to improve or hurt rankings on their main keywords but general search traffic has almost doubled. Now I’m doing whitehat SEO for them and getting links through emailing bloggers and giving them reasons to link to us. Over 2 months (amongst over things) I’ve obtained links from around 35 websites, mostly PR 3 – 4 with a few up to PR 7. On my own website, a couple of links like this would produce a noticeable effect in the rankings, but I can’t seem to budge the ranks for this website. I’m concerned that they might just want to go back to their old SEO firm for more spam links. Am I doing the right thing? Am I getting links quick enough and how can I argue the case for whitehat if they’re getting more noticeable results from blackhat?
