What to do if your categories are missing from Google Places/Plus page?
-
A client's Google Places/Plus page used to show four or five categories. Now, Google only shows one category. When I go inside their edit page, all of the categories are still listed. Is this a temporary occurrence? Does anyone have a similar experience or advice on this?None of the competitors seem to have the same issue. Ever since the Google plus integration, it's been impossible to see any changes updated.

Hi Lucas,
Yes, there have been reports of category display issues. See:
Now, first of all, let's make sure your categories aren't actually being displayed. Go to your Google+ Local Page and actually click on the place where the category is. Do you get a dropdown showing the other categories? For an example of this, go to this page for a jeweler in Buffalo:
https://plus.google.com/103156080483607740278/about?hl=en
As you can see, this business is showing only 2 categories on the top level interface, but if you click on the categories, a dropdown displays additional categories.
I'm wondering if you've overlooked this function.
My second question would be whether your categories are violation free. No city names? Nothing spammy? Be sure of this.
If neither of these points applies to you, I would recommend that you report the issue via the Google and Your Business forum for direct technical assistance:
http://productforums.google.com/forum/#!forum/business
Hope this helps!

I've definitely noticed this. I haven't thorough investigated it, but I'm guessing that they're just showing those one or two categories, but they're still recognizing the other categories on the back end.

Google+ Local City Centroid Bias
It's well-known that Google has a bias towards businesses located closest to the center of the city being searched in. How can you tell where exactly Google considers to be the center of the city? I think that the way is to just search the city name on Google Maps and the marker will appear at where they consider the center of the city to be but just wanted to double check on that first.

Blocking Google From Accessing Our Images - SEO Impact
We recently discovered that we were blocking Google from crawling our cdn, cdn.yournextshoes.com, where all our images are hosted. Unfortunately this went on for several months, and I wonder if this could explain our horrible SEO performance. Basically, I would like to know if this has impacted just our performance in Google Images (obviously our images have not been picked up by Google Images), or if our regular SEO has been impacted as well.Right now we're just receiving around 13% of our traffic from search, so we're trying to find out why Google does not like us.

Appering in both Google Places and regular SERP at the same time
Hi all! My question is: if a search query gives 2 regular results, then the Google Places results, then 8 more results on the first page, is it possible for a website to appear in both in the regular listing, and in the Google Places listing at the same time? In other words: if I do everything well, can my website be the first result, and also be one of the results in the Places listing as well? Or does a website only either apper in the regular listing or in the Places listing? Thanks for the answers!

My competitors are spamming in google places, how do I report them? following are a few examples of how they are spamming: Some of them are not local businesses, they somehow managed to get a number and some random address. Some of them have keywords as company names, their exact company name doesn't have any keywords. Some of them have multiple places pages with keywords as company names. how does one deal with it?
