Questions about Press Releases

Are sites such as Marketwire, PRWeb, PRnewswire, BusinessWire, e-Releases and PitchEngine good for editorial back links?
Also, if I have a press release on PRWeb, for example, can I have the EXACT same one on Martketwire, etc or do I need to worry about duplicate content?

yeah about 80% of the links are followed but be careful you should use it for domain authority more than keyword targeting cause it can make your link profile suck quick .

Many use these sites and my experience with their sales staffs is that they can say SEO more times in a minute than anyone I have ever met. Yes, they can have some impact on backlinks, but the vast majority of that impact flows to them.
The biggest problem with these as I see it is that the vast majority of "press releases" are actually flagrant BS ads for a company, etc. So, if you are going to do them, write real press releases and do not let their people interfere. For example, if you are a dentist and there is a new teeth whitener that guards against cavities do not put out a press release about it and how you use it. (Every other dentist will do the same). Dentist Jones announces XYX teeth whitener, blah blah blah... This is the most common PR they all put out. It is of little or no value.
Also, they all ask for $$ up front, which I don't like and then want to control how often you put out a press release which just struck me as odd. IF they were really press releases, how would they be timed?
That is my two cents.

OK good to know. So how does that work in terms of backlinks to my site? Does Google like sites like PR Web because I noticed they links pointed to sites in the articles are FOLLOW links.

If you have a reason to have a press release, definitely do it. Think about it from a user's perspective. If they see your press release in Google News, would they read it and if they do, is that something they'd call a news ?
As for the distribution, yes, all/most sites have "some" SEO value. But the way I think about a PR is...distribute it with the intent of it getting picked up by offline media potentially and other news outlets..not just for the backlink.
Also, I would not recommend doing too many press releases just for a backlink.

Well prweb posts the same article to about 200 news sites exactly the same... so duplicate content is there no matter what but its still worth it for the links google understands that news gets distributed.
Prweb probably has something against posting the same article with another service though so i would suggest writing another pr release on the same topic just different.

Revisited: The subdomain vs subdirectory question
This has been much discussed before, but I would like to bring it up again in a specific content. I was wondering what people think about choosing between the two (subdomain vs subdirectory), when adding new 'channels' to a digital media platform. The two examples that I have are both very smart companies, that very recently went different route for the same challenge. I'd like to hear some pro's/con''s and any input you might have! The exapmles are: Vice: the main site is Vice.com, and they have begun to add a ton of new 'channals' or topically specific content (e.g. news.vice.com, noisey.vice.com, munchies.vice.com etc). New Product. New Brand. Gmail/Authorship Questions. Need Advice.
I'm in the process of developing a new product and brand name and would like to create all the social media accounts (FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc), including G+ and want it to have it's own Gmail ID like ABCXYZ@gmail.com, so I can set up all accounts using this Gmail ID and if needed down the road, have someone else help manage the accounts so they have that login and my my main Gmail login. My question is, does Google frown upon setting up new Gmail IDs under the same name "Patrick McCoy" as I have my name tied to my personal Gmail account and my company's Gmail account "whiteboardcreations@gmail" both with G+ pages and URLs of /+PatrickMcCoy1 and /+PatrickMcCoy2 respectively. I'd like to have Authorship associated with the new product website and also want the new product to have it's own G+ Business Page to post updates, info, etc., which is why I'm getting a little confused on how I'd do it the right way, What would you do or does it really matter... can my new Gmail account of ABCXYZ@gmail just be /+PatrickMcCoy3 which is associated to my new product/brand name? PR Web Press Release for Links
I was wondering if submitting press release, such as to PR Web, if the links, on the press release linking back to our site still have any value in today's SEO world? If so, what is the right way to take out the most value of a Press Release.?? Please advise, Morris

Press Releases benefit from having an author
We just started doing some Press Releases and want to maximize the benefits of them to our full potential. Would it be beneficial for our PR to have an author? We know Google likes real people and was wondering if attaching the author to the PR will provide more strength to that particular author?

Is a press release a bad idea?
We've never sent out a press release before using one of the services, and thought it might finally be time. Then I saw that Google seems to be calling services like PR Newswire out. "Links with optimized anchor text in articles or press releases distributed on other sites." https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/66356?hl=en So, is it worth it to spend a few hundred bucks to distribute a press release, or am I better off just publishing it on my blog for my blog writing service and promoting it all the regular ways?

Press Release Best Practices - should I add the PR to my site?
I wanted to know the best practice for SEO when it comes to press releases. If I publish a press release through a site like PRWeb or PRNewswire, can I also add the same press release to my site in the "news" section or will that create duplicate content issues? Would it make sense to include a summary of the press release on my site and then add a link to the press release hosted on the PR service's site? I don't necessarily want to take people away from my site, but I'm not sure if putting the whole release in both places makes sense. Thanks!

A customer is releasing a brand new and world wide unique product in the next few weeks. I want to send out press releases to the biggest and most serious press release portals to get this news out in the world. Can you recommend me some english portals in the UK / U.S.A. and maybe Australia?

Video Hosting Question - host on website via wistia type solution or upload to youtube and embed?
I have a client that owns a Video production company. They have a lot of video examples of all their different types of services i.e. commercial production, TV broadcast production, business videos, training videos, etc. Where should I host their portfolio of videos, should I: A: Use a paid video hosting solution like wistia B. Upload to youtube or vimeo and embed to my own site The only videos titles with keywords that I could see bringing any type of conversions for their business would be their demo reels, for example: "Atlanta Corporate Video Production Demo Reel." The other videos would be the name of the video "Court TV: Cop On Trial For Killing Wife" and therefore wouldn't bring the kind of visitors that are searching for a video production service. This is why I'm curious about what the best hosting option is. Any advice would be a great help.
