Google serps for split keyword searches
-
A client has come to me with an issue with the marketing of their website.
it is mainly focused around the search of their name. the site is an Magento GO hosted e-commerce based site through Magento. it requires a good amount of optimisation and its in a very competitive market - which has high volume of searches.
When entering the name of the business it doesn't show on the first page of Google but it does on Bing or Yahoo. The site name is lovehugz and is UK based
The issue is when searched for by name lovehugz it appears on the second page, however if the search term is separated love hugz it appears first on the first page.
The site is poorly optmised at present with the page title limited to the name lovehugz.
Does anybody know of reasons why Google might be behaving in this manner and what steps should be taken to overcome.
Optimising for the name is not the only aim here, however it something that should be in place for people searching by name, There is a lot of work to be done to optimise the site for its essential relevant keywords to stand a chance in its market.
Any ideas of help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

I hate to break this to you but when I do an unpersonalised search in google.co.uk for [lovehugz], the site isn't on page 2. In fact I couldn't see it on the first 6 pages. I did however, see it when I searched [love hugz].
I would say it is odd that it doesn't rank anywhere for [lovehugz] considering it isn't technically a word and the top ranking page is a twitter account. I would have certainly expected an exact match domain to outrank a twitter account on that alone.
I would probably delve into your backlink profile. A quick search on opensiteexplorer.org has certainly revealed a few issues there.

It's really not behaving in an odd manner. It looks like there are lots of things on the web that include the word "love" and the word "hugz." If they are pretty popular, and your client's website is terrible, it's not surprising that these other results would rank above their site. The other thing is, Google has to entertain the possibility that when you typed "hugz," you meant "hugs." That's going to add some noise to the results.

Why is our website ranked lower but beats most competitors in full SERP report?
We are analysing why our website ranks so low (currently position 8 in serp). We beat our competitors in most areas. Also we produce by far the most useful content. Do not buy links or do any other malpractice. We have been for a long time ranked in top 3 (well mostly 1-2) positions. In the last year we have seen a decline to position 8-10 and we are not sure why this is the case. Can anyone suggest what we should be focusing on? We are clueless. All the practices we used to "know" now seem obsolete. m8qIeyC,Kf1LLei#0

Local/Geo-Targeted SEO Keywords
Hey everyone, I work for a local jeweler who only has one store and wants to rank for geo-targeted and local results. We want to rank for "jewelry Minneapolis", "Minnesota engagement rings" and terms like that, since we're not an e-tailer we don't need to rank nationally... just in the MSP metro. I've been trying to find a service that has accurate search volume information for local search. I want to see how many searches are being conducted for various terms so I know where to focus our time and effort to rank for these terms. Does such a service exist? Or something that is more geared toward a strictly local strategy such as ours? Thanks in advance for all of your assistance! Jayme

SEOMoz bar shows competitors ranking higher in SERPS with less Moztrust and Mozrank?
We are targeting the term "wholesale fireworks" we are currently on page two and just completed some on page optimization. I noticed using the Mozbar that the SERP results on the first page show a site with near zero page rank, Moztrust, domain trust, etc.. It is steadily number two in SERPS. Our site is just as strong or stronger on these ratings as anyone on the first page. How is it possible that we are still hanging out on page 2?

Is it valuable for a local business to build links into its Google Place?
G'Day All, Almost all of my clients are geo-based small service-based businesses. I've noticed during my research that the google places for our competitors in 3 separate niches (3 different clients) seem to be the dominating results for almost all relevant keyword terms. I'm curious to see if anyone has actively tried to increase the ranking of a google place by building links into it. Is this something that anyone else sees value to for a local small business? I would love to get some thoughts. And for that matter I'm also curious to see if anyone thinks there might be value to optimizing a Facebook Fan Page or Yelp Business page. They all seem to be key drivers of traffic our client websites so I'm wondering how difficult it is to make them rank as opposed to a website. Thanks!
