Can't for the life of me figure out how this is possible !! Any ideas ?
-
I would imagine it's not all that easy to rank on 1st page ( not going for 1st position here ) for https://www.google.com.au/search?q=credi+cards. I am looking at the AU market.
For some reason which I can't figure out Everyday Money Credit Card ( https://www.woolworthsmoney.com.au/ ) ranks number 4.
The home page redirect to https://www.woolworthsmoney.com.au/wowm/wps/wcm/connect/wowmoney/wowmoney/home/home/
Why have your homepage in this format ? I would love to hear any theories you guys might have.
It does not look like they have a strong link profile , I could not figure out how old the domain was or what other possible reason there is for the site to rank .

The entire content of the link:
http-equiv="refresh" content="0;url=https://www.woolworthsmoney.com.au/wowm/wps/wcm/connect/wowmoney/wowmoney/home/home/" />

It makes a bit more sense when you realize they're using it to give the full value of Woolworth's site to the link. I understand 100% why it's highly ranked now. I sent you a LinkedIn connect request to email you about it further. In case you (or someone else needing help) checks this post:
Try the URL:
Let me break it down
http://www.woolworths.com.au/ Their main, highly ranked site.
wps/wcm/connect/website/woolworths/ This part of the domain somehow connects them back to woolworth's entire site.
everyday+services/insurance/credit+cards This sends you to another page entirely. Somewhere in their database, this link = woolworthsmoney.com.au
They are using the FULL power of their domain to create an internal redirect. That's why you can't find it on their site.
site:woolworths.com.au woolworthsmoney.com.au turns up virtually nothing.
If you go here, however: http://www.woolworths.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/Website/Woolworths/Everyday+Services/Insurance/
You find "Credit Cards" and the entire HTML including H3 on Woolworths.com.au:
[/wps/wcm/connect/website/woolworths/everyday+services/insurance/credit+cards](<a class=)">Credit Cards

that was my first guess, but I could not see any immediate back links from their high value web property and hhe homepage still baffles me
https://www.woolworthsmoney.com.au/wowm/wps/wcm/connect/wowmoney/wowmoney/home/home/

thanks for the input mate , the keyword was " credit cards "

Similar post about the exact same domain here: http://www.seomoz.org/q/strange-nothing-site-ranking
Doesn't seem like anyone's analyzed it. However, Woolworth's is a huge business here so I'm guessing somewhere on Woolworth's corporate site is a high value link back.
The site now has 59,900 links showing up on Google and Everyday Rewards (an older site with decent rankings) links in a menu to them: https://www.everydayrewards.com.au
When you have a corporate site with a mozrank & moztrust in the 5s, 250,000 links back and a DA over 60, you're going to have decent power on ALL of your sites to push this new one up the rankings. Woolie's has built trust and as a huge brand, Google rewards that.

I see what you mean they haven't even bothered with a meta-description. The keyword 'Everyday Money Credit Card' isn't that competitive though. The top 4 sites for that keyword have a page authority of 1 so its a low competitive keyword.
I can't imagine you'd have to do much link building to get a site ranking for that keyword. Keywords that clients usually focus on are 'compare credit cards' and 'credit card calculator' and there nowhere for those keywords. moneyhound.com.au also have a redirect so it doesn't seem to make too much difference.

What to do about spam links I didn't create?
I have dropped in rankings 3-5 points over the past 6 months and have been trying to figure out why. One thing I found was a ton of my pictures on a image net ring. I obviously didn't put those photos there or give permission to use them. It looks like an offshore website. How do we deal with these type of bad links?

Organic search traffic has dropped by 35% since 18 September, we don't know why.
Organic traffic to our website has dropped 35% since 18 September 2017 to date. From 1 January to 18 September 2017 organic traffic was up by just under 1% over all (Google up by 1.32%). Paid search traffic over the same time has remained steady. There is nothing we can think of that we've done that has caused the drop. We had an issue with Google page speed test failing when running a test but we resolved this issue on 20 November and in that time we've seen an even greater drop (44% in the last week). The drop is seen across the 3 main search engines, not just Google, which points toward something we've done, but as mentioned, we can't think of any significant change we made in September that would have such negative effects. There is little difference across devices. Is anyone aware of a significant event in September in the search engine world that may have influenced our organic traffic? Any help gratefully received.

Why isn't my site not searchable from google?
I am having a hard time figuring out why is it that when I search for my website name, it didn't show up in google's search result? Here's a link to my site. I've been twiddling for days looking for answers in my google webmaster tools. Here's a link of the crawl stats from google webmaster tool. As you can see it is actually crawling some pages. However my looking at my indexed status, I am getting 0 as you can see here (http://cl.ly/image/3G1R1p0b3k1P). I've double checked for my robots.txt and nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary there. I am not blocking anything. Any ideas why?

Moz Reporting Incorrect 404's
Hi Guys SEOMoz is telling me that we have 191 404 errors f. I have checked this with several other crawlers and this not the case. For example, http://www.opticalexpress.co.uk/eyecare/corporate-savings.html%0D%0A2027 But correct links its http://www.opticalexpress.co.uk/eyecare/corporate-savings.html which is fine... We have no record of these links so why is it appending these characters at the end of the URL which is causing the 404's....

OpenSite Explorer doesn't show Twitter
When I type competitors sites into opensiteexplorer it shows their Twitter page as one of the tops links back. However, my site, our Twitter page isn't even on the links back. Does twitter even though no follow hold any value? Why can't opensite explorer see it? If OSE can't see it then do you think Google isn't?

The 'On Page' section of SEOMOZ
How does SEOMOZ choose a keyword for a page, for example it has ranked one of my pages for a search term which does not really appear on that page and then given it an F - how do I change the key word association? Secondly, when I first started using SEOMOZ I could change the page and then click the button 'Grade my on-page optimization' and it would show an immediate update - does anyone know why this has been stopped, as it is very useful to know you have got the page right away to an A for example.

I have 404 errors but can't find where these links are?
The 4xx report had 0 errors, and then on the recent crawl it found over 200. They are all variations on real URLs e.g.: Real URL: http://www.bullseyeuk.com/10-up-deluxe-literature-holder.html 404 Error URL: http://www.bullseyeuk.com/10-up-deluxe-literature-holder.html None of them are linked to the root domain and I can't find where they are coming from. Any ideas? Thanks Jack

Canonicalization isn't consistent across site!?!
I started managing a fairly small site that consists of a home page, flash portfolio, and a wordpress blog. The home page ( main index ) is canonicalized as: The wordpress blog is canonicalized as Does canonicalization need to be consistent across the site? Could the difference in canonicalization cause any ranking problems, and or indexing problems for the blog / entire site? Any thoughts are appreciated!
