Local Versions of Pages
-
I have a site that offers services across two states and was wondering if I would see any benefit from creating pages such as:
SERVICE in CITY, TX
Would I need to change the content on the pages completely or could I simply swap out the city/state if I have roughly 3-5 combos I want target?

Thanks, Robert. Hope business is going good for you this fall!

Nice add Miriam,
As always!

Hi Terry, As Robert has correctly stated, if you're going to take this approach, it's critical to take the time to do it right. Adding city landing pages to your site could potentially drive a small amount of organic traffic your way, but adding duplicate pages will only harm you. So, the task at hand becomes to figure out whether you've got something distinct to say about the services you offer in each of the target cities. The creativity of your thinking and approach will be so important here! Depending on the competitiveness of your niche and the locales you are targeting, organic SEO (like linkbuilding) may be able to take you to a certain point in the SERPs with these pages, though as you have noted, you cannot really hope to compete with true local businesses with real, physical locations.

Thanks I was wondering about the duplicate content issue, just seen so many cases where people have done this and wasn't sure if it actually works.I will definitely look into doing custom content for each page.
We're unfortunately not physically located in either, most of our services get handled over phone, email, and screen sharing. I know this keeps us off of google local for these, we're mainly hoping to catch any local searches that may happen.
-
Do not swap out city state as it will still be duplicate content. Take the time to do it right and it won't take long at all.
The question is are you physically located in say Tyler and Shreveport? If so, do local in both first. Then have pages that are city specific, but with different content. Not spun, different.
You will be glad you did. I would suggest minimally acquiring phone numbers that are specific to the cities you serve from the pov of user interaction with search.
Hope it helps.
Robert

Should i be using shortcodes for my my page content.
Hello, I have a question. Sorry if this is been answered before. Recently I decided to do a little face lift to my main website pages. I wanted to make my testimonials more pretty. Found this great plugin for testimonials which creates shortcodes. I love how it looks like, but just realised that when I use images in shortcodes, these are not picked up by search engines 😞 only text is. Image search ability is pretty important for me and I'm not sure if I should stick with my plain design and upload images manually with all alt tags and title tags or there is a way to adjust shortcode so it shows images to search engines. You can see example here. https://a-fotografy.co.uk/maternity-photographer-edinburgh/ Let me know your thoughts guys. Regards, Armands

Is it still necessary to have a "home" page button/link in the top nav?
Or is it not necessary to have a "home" tab/link because everybody by this time knows you can get to the home page by clicking on the logo?

Location specific services pages
Hi guys, I'm working with a client who would has offices in two cities in Australia, and they provide a certain service to both cities. They would like to rank for keyword phrase for the service for both cities. E.g. Window Cleaning Brisbane, Window Cleaning Darwin. I strongly believe in focusing on relevance and visitor experience first, rather than ham-fistedly trying to rank for those phrases. Having said that, I'm thinking of creating two pages for those phrases as a sub-page to the service itself, with the title of those pages containing the geographically specific phrases. E.g.: Window Cleaning -->Window Cleaning Brisbane -->Window Cleaning Darwin The pages would highlight the 'reach' of the service in the two cities, as well as some specific information such as the history of both offices, any distinctions between the services provided, the teams at both locations, and so forth. I feel that although this seems like a valid reason for doing this, I may be overlooking something. What do you guys think?

Do pages with low PA effect DA?
I was looking into raising my firm's Domain Authority and I had a thought. I was wondering if our very low PA pages are bringing the overall DA down? Our homepage is at 43 currently and the DA is 32. We have quite a few pages and I am trimming a little fat in the deep pages currently. I was wondering what would be the result in terms of DA I am also starting an aggressive initiative to blog more and try to attract links through guest posting and HARO (Hep A Reporter Out). I understand that many people will say DA is not a metric your should necessarily build around. But, while I am fighting for rankings in a very competitive vertical, I assume a higher DA is better, no? From everything I have read on Moz over the years, they say that the DA metric is the one that tries to encompass a multitude of factors, similar to the way something more complex like the Google algorithm does. So, I assumed finding small gains in DA could be beneficial to the site's rankings and traffic I tried to go into detail and get specific here because I know how many bad questions are asked daily. Thanks anyone and everyone for the help, I do thoroughly appreciate the Moz community

Site Redesign: Bounce rate, converstion, page views, etc.
Hi Fellow Mozzers, I had a few questions regarding some analytics data we have been seeing since our redesign. Just last week we did a site design overhaul at www.lylif.com. One of the biggest changes we immediately saw was a 15-20% increase in our bounce rate. However, our conversion rates, page views, pages per visit, and site duration has increased. If anyone has some insight as to why we may be having such a large increase in our bounce rate that would be most helpful!

Seo for flash home page?
I have a client who insists their home page be a single graphic image of their logo with php menus linking to all of the other pages up top. This appears to me to be an seo nightmare. They seem to be unwilling to have anything to do with changing the appearance and want to rely on seo for "all the other pages" on the site. What's an SEO to do in this situation? Is it possible to have a flash image that lands on a "homepage" for google to crawl, rather than a single image? What's the best seo approach here?
