Keyword Research: Does Google view the word "and" as an "or" statement
-
I'm doing keyword research and one of the terms I have found that work for my website are "exercise and vitamins". One of my colleagues told me that Google views searches that contain the word "and" as an "or" statement (i.e., the searcher is looking for either "excercise" or "vitamins"). My understanding of the word "and" is that it is a stop word, which is ignored by Google.
Which is correct?
-
Eric, you are absolutely correct - "and" and "or" are stop words and are ignored by Google. While doing the keyword research you will come across key phrases consisting of stop words because they were searched for.
What Spencer has written is absolutely correct but i feel that here we are merging two different things.
You can definitely use "exercise and vitamins"
-
Just to clarify, if I'm trying to optimize a page for people interested in learning more about how vitamins impact on exercise; then would I be correct to use the "and" (as in "exercise and vitamins")?

The and operator is an and operator, not an OR. It works like you would think it would.
Straight from the mouth of Google:
"The OR operator
Google's default behavior is to consider all the words in a search. If you want to specifically allow either one of several words, you can use the OR operator (note that you have to type 'OR' in ALL CAPS). For example,- [ San Francisco Giants 2004 OR 2005 ] will give you results about either one of these years, whereas [ San Francisco Giants 2004 2005 ] (without the OR) will show pages that include both years on the same page. The symbol | can be substituted for OR. (The AND operator, by the way, is the default, so it is not needed.)"

Any keyword tools to do this?
Hi, I'm looking for a tool which can pull keyword idea data from Google Keyword Planner at landing page level for multiple URLs at once. Right now with Google Keyword Planner you can only manually do one URL at once. Which will give you 800 keywords. I'm looking to pull landing page keyword ideas for about 10 URLs at once, so in total i should get about 8,000 keywords. Any tools which can automate this with Google Keyword Planner? Cheers.

Tag usage based on Google keywords
We are making a site that will be a database of publicity stunts. We used the Google Keyword tool to find a bunch of words related to this. The term itself has similar keywords such as [pr campaigns]. And also there are some derivative keywords as [bad publicity stunts], [famous publicity stunts], [celebrity publicity stunts]. Each bringing in 20-50 monthly searches for the exact term. Some concepts appear slightly differently such as [famous pr stunts] and [famous pr campaigns]. We'd love our pages to appear on as much of these keyword searches as possible (overall we expect about 3k-4k searches /month on exact matching). And we're planning to use these keywords as a our taxonomy for our post tags. That way the keyword appears in each stunt page AND there is a page for each type of publicity stunt. As a general policy, what would be the best way to write our tags?

Best Keyword Research Tool
Can anyone please recommend the best keyword research tools available, we specialise in the travel industry and struggle to find new keywords as the more niche ones always show no traffic searches in the google keyword tool so it is really difficult to make a judgement. We know from google analytics that some niche keywords really are useless and while they are no. 1 they generate no traffic. I hope you can help Thanks! Andy

Google search results
Does Google always return the results of a search query in a broad based fashion if the searcher does not use brackets or quote marks? Or, do they display the older domains of sites with authority under the broad based parameters and newer sites only if there is a possible exact match? How does Google decide which type of search results to display? Thanks for any insight. I

Unusual Words - How to Check what Google Recognises
I want to check which words Google is aware of, I remember Danny Dover talking about "SeoMoz.org" and theorising that Google couldn't understand that SEO was in the URL because it didn't understand that "Moz" was a word and therefore couldn't seperate the 2 words "SEO and "Moz" out. Any ideas, I thought about using Google Instant but as it comes up with "seomoz" when i type in "seom" so am assuming that this detail is taken from a diffrent source. Justin

Keyword Targeting
If I am currently ranking well for "Lawn Mowers" and I also want to target "Cheap Lawn Mowers" will it affect my ranking for "Lawn Mowers" if I change my on page optimization by adding "Cheap" to the title, H1, etc. or will it effectively target both.
