Text link to root in footer template
-
Hey Mozers,
My first post here, I look forward to contributing what I learn and collecting knowledge branches (github joke) from you all.
How valuable is a text link in the footer template to your home page (root)?
My guess would be that it sends the on page link juice back to the home page. I don't believe this link should use keywords though (post penguin world).
I realize we should have a pyramid architecture (http://www.seomoz.org/blog/internal-linking-strategies-for-2012-and-beyond) but should every page link back to the homage page? What variables does this effect?

Very clear answer: it won't help anything. Your homepage should naturally get so many links that a link in your own footer will make near to no difference at all. It's not worth your time worrying over. Only time you should worry about the links in your footer is if people are having a hard time finding stuff.

Lets forget about seo, but from user point view ( navigation ) "Home" word is more famous so. If text link is with "Home" word then its quite easy for visitor to understand.

I'm specifically asking about a text link that points back to your home page, not a footer full of spammy links.

Let me quote Rand's awesome White Board Friday here :
Number three, cruddy, link filled footers. I see this all the time still. You're just having a bunch of exact anchor links down in here that no one would actually really click and that come in lists. I often see them in light gray on light gray so that it's not particularly easy to read. Use your footer wisely. Use your footer to link to the things that people expect to find in the footer. If you really need to get anchor text on pages, find natural ways to put it in the real menu at the top, in the content itself. Don't be trying to mess around and throw footer links site wide, across things. This 2002, man. We're ten years later. It's like at least a decade past that.

Footer Links Question
I work at a web development firm and we put site wide links in each of our clients footers (I know this is awful and I am in the process of changing this) that read "web design by, web development by, hosting by,,,etc". My question is, I am in the process of deleting the site wide links and just leaving the links on the home page, but 1. should I get rid of the links all together, that are on sites that have a pr:2 or lower? 2. should I change the footer links, so they aren't all the same text?

Anchor text for deep links?
Hi,
Link Building | | rayvensoft
I was wondering if anybody had some advice on what to do for deep link anchor text in the post penguin world? For the homepage, I am going with almost exclusively branded text with only small variations once in a while. For the deep links I was thinking of doing a mix of branded text with some additional text such as: "My Brand Name" + Red or "My Brand Name" + Blue Does anybody know if this is the best way to go, or is there any other advice? Thanks in advance.0 -
Link to those that link to you? Worthwhile?
We have thousands and thousands of sites that link to a domain we are working on, many with low page authority and high domain (bloggers, forum posts, etc). Has anyone experimented with linking to the pages that link to you (not from your site) but from other means in an effort to boost their quality? I'm not sure what method we would use, maybe some relevant blog comments or social votes. But curious if this could be an effective method.

Links from any country?
My site is aimed primarily at the UK, 90% of the traffic is from the UK and most of my links are from other UK based and UK targetted websites. The content is actually fairly international (apart from certain terms like Plasterboard instead of Drywall, etc). My question is: Should I concentrate on gathering links from the UK, or should I widen my search and try to get links from US and European websites? Are there any particular advantages or disadvantages to keeping links "local"?
