Does changing host server between countries affect SEO if there is no content change?
-
My website is currently hosted with Go-daddy and the hosting server is in the USA on a Linux platform. The problem is, the response time for my Australian Customers, is too slow, as a result, I decided to move to another Go Daddy Hosting server in the Asia Pacific Region. This has been completed successfully, however I think there may be some impact on my rankings.
Can you advise if there are any specific things that I must do, when I move to a different hosting server with the same company or an alternative company.
Note: We are not changing domain names or content, purely just moving to a hosting server closer to where our customers are based.
Looking forward to your response.

Hi Fdep,
The server move could be impacting your rankings. However the ideal set-up is your site is hosted in the main country you want to rank (assumed Australia). However you have moved from the US to Asia Pacific Region, therefore the location shouldn't be an issue in this case, as you haven't moved from Australia to Asia.
Check Google Webmasters Go to Google webmasters and check the the error logs. If you're getting lots of issues in there because your host isn't handling the site/traffic correctly it could be affecting your rankings.
Algo Updates Check the algo updates here on the mighty SEOMOZ http://www.seomoz.org/google-algorithm-change If the ranking drop happend on the same date as one of these, then it's more likely this is the cause of the problem.
Thanks

Only few things to keep in mind!
I always believe that location of the server have an impact on rankings... so if you are changing your server from US to Asia... I guess there will be a problem and you might see a fall in rankings (at least fluctuations).
Other thing that you should keep in mind is the down time. I would suggest checking the down time of the server and if it is more than usual the migration can be really risky!
If you are switching from one server to another within the same hosting company, this is an easy pick! All you have to do is to properly go with the migration process with minimum down time and I am sure things will be easy with you.
Hope this helps!

Yes, it will affect to your ranking website in SERP if you change from USA to Asia Pacific Region. I think you should consider carefully.

Country specific SEO
Hi I have a question regarding country specific SEO and what would the best approach be? I have website A which is currently ranking well in Google country A, I would now like to introduce a new website B which is only specific to users in Google country B. The only difference between the 2 websites is that website B will have different prices and products for the users in Google country B. From a development point of view we would like to only have one instance of the website which can be served to users in country A and B all that we would do is change some of the content and prices based on the user IP which means that users in country A see a different version of the website to users in country B. Is this approach fine from and organic point of view? Or would we need to have 2 separate websites and make use of Href Lang?

International Sites and Duplicate Content
Hello, I am working on a project where have some doubts regarding the structure of international sites and multi languages.Website is in the fashion industry. I think is a common problem for this industry. Website is translated in 5 languages and sell in 21 countries. As you can imagine this create a huge number of urls, so much that with ScreamingFrog I cant even complete the crawling. Perhaps the UK site is visible in all those versions http://www.MyDomain.com/en/GB/ http://www.MyDomain.com/it/GB/ http://www.MyDomain.com/fr/GB/ http://www.MyDomain.com/de/GB/ http://www.MyDomain.com/es/GB/ Obviously for SEO only the first version is important One other example, the French site is available in 5 languages and again... http://www.MyDomain.com/fr/FR/ http://www.MyDomain.com/en/FR/ http://www.MyDomain.com/it/FR/ http://www.MyDomain.com/de/FR/ http://www.MyDomain.com/es/FR/ And so on...this is creating 3 issues mainly: Endless crawling - with crawlers not focusing on most important pages Duplication of content Wrong GEO urls ranking in Google I have already implemented href lang but didn't noticed any improvements. Therefore my question is Should I exclude with "robots.txt" and "no index" the non appropriate targeting? Perhaps for UK leave crawable just English version i.e. http://www.MyDomain.com/en/GB/, for France just the French version http://www.MyDomain.com/fr/FR/ and so on What I would like to get doing this is to have the crawlers more focused on the important SEO pages, avoid content duplication and wrong urls rankings on local Google Please comment

International SEO
Anyone have any good free resources for international SEO best practices? I've read through most of the common stuff and wondered if there's anything I'm missing. We are getting ready to launch a version of our website in the UK and I could use any hints or advice that could make my life easier. My biggest question is whether to keep the sites as 1 site (single domain with sub-folder for sharing incoming link profile) or to get a .UK domain and do everything from scratch. (it seems like a sub-domain is not the way to go?). I also wonder if any of you can share things to look out for, pitfalls, mistakes, etc...? TIA for any help/answers!

Local SEO - My Ranking depends on City of the user - Rank tracker is failing
Hello, The search results differ completly depending on the user location. The websites yoagbarcelona.org targets poeple from barcelona: Barcelona; User location Barcelona web is on the last position on first page: http://screencast.com/t/ZsIeiCeLRM User location New York 1st. http://screencast.com/t/PzaLbwWW4xx: Also SEO MOZ rank tracker is showing me that im no 1in google.es for yoga barcelona. The problem is that this is only true for users outside the region 😞 The site has very bad ranking in google places and you need to go down to page 10 until my yoga studio shows up in the maps results. I did some hardcore citation building and signed up in almost all local directories that google pulls data from within one month and optimised the google places / plus profile. Please give me some advice how I could overcome the problem.??? Especially on what part should i focus when optimising the page. ??? Are there any other good strategies for getting into google places ??? Do I need more links from local sites or how is this local serps working ???

Internationally targetted subdomains and Duplicate content
A client has a site they'd like to translated into French, not for the french market but for french speaking countries. My research tells me the best way to implement this for this particular client is to create subfolders for each country. For ease of implementation I’ve decided against ccTLD’s and Sub Domains. So for example… I'll create www.website.com/mr/ for Mauritania and in GWT set this to target Mauritania. Excellent so far. But then I need to build another sub folder for Morocco. I'll then create www.website.com/ma/ for Morocco and in GWT set this to target Morocco. Now the content on these two sub folders will be exactly the same and I’m thinking about doing this for all French speaking African countries. It would be nice to use www.website.com/fr/ but in GWT you can only set one Target country. Duplicate content issues arise and my fear of perturbing the almighty Google becomes a possibility. My research indicates that I should simply canonical back to the page I want indexed. But I want them both to be indexed surely!? I therefore decided to share my situation with my fellow SEO’s to see if I’m being stupid or missing something simple both a distinct possibility!
